Entertaining with a hint of suspense. A good family drama filled with secrets.

A fantastic read. Once I got to a certain point in the book I couldn't put it down. Read about 150 pages in one sitting!

Initially thinking this book was a thriller as B. A Paris‘s past novels were, I was sadly disappointed it was a family/marital drama. But in Paris‘s usual style she has created a drama that keeps you turning the pages wanting to learn more about the secret Livia and Adam are keeping from one another. Well written and tear inducing..I recommend!

I‘m really like b a Paris. This is a great read that you‘re not sure where it‘s going, until you do.

Not sure how I feel about this one. It‘s really slow and dragged out. Definitely had potential but the majority was me thinking “move along”. The couples anguish is so drawn out...chapter after chapter. I found myself thinking hurry up and end already. Really wanted to love this - but it was OK at best.

On the eve of his wife Livia's 40th birthday party, Adam receives devastating news and struggles with the dilemma of how and when to tell his family. But he is not the only one keeping a secret, and one of them may destroy his family forever. More a family drama, then psychological thriller the author is known for, I struggled to finish this book. Are there couples like this, that don‘t talk to each other? ⭐️⭐️ #netgalley #bookspinbingo #BFC21

I‘ll start by saying I was eagerly turning pages in the book to see what would happen, so Paris definitely held my interest.

Livia has been looking forward to her 40th birthday for years but she has a secret she is waiting to tell her husband. He also holds his own secret that could change everything.

The ending was too predictable for me and while yes I could describe this book as “suspenseful,” it is certainly not a thriller or even a mystery.

I read this book in 24hrs. That‘s really fast for me. Overall, this was very different than B.A. Paris‘ other 3 books that I have read. It‘s definitely more of a novel than a psych thriller like her others. I was surprised to find that the end left me in tears. I typically don‘t read books like this but I‘m glad I did. #booksandcoffee

Not your usual Paris book! More of a family drama. I poured through it, wanting to find out the secrets. I was very underwhelmed by the ending.

Booknerd2 That stupid party felt like the main character and I didn‘t like Liv because of it. But, seriously, who plans a birthday party for 20 years. 🙄 I feel better now!! 4y

Thank you Netgally and St Martin's press for an ARC of this book for an honest review.

This book is told in two different perspective. One is the perspective of husband Adam and the other one of Wife Livia. Livia is excited about her 40th birthday party and Adam is excited to be surprising his wife by flying their daughter home early. This book is filled with secrets and lies. It was a quick read with a lots of different emotions.

MsMelissa I just got this in the mail yesterday. Happy to see that it‘s a pick 👍🏻 4y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I‘m in the minority but I loved the conversations I‘ve had from this book! Livia has waited 20 years for her 40th birthday party - sort of the wedding she never had since she married so young. But on the cusp of the party, she‘s keeping a secret. Her husband is keeping a secret. Secrets are going to collide... http://scrappymags.com/2020/06/27/book-review-the-dilemma-by-b-a-paris/

When I began reading this book, I was expecting a thriller as her previous three books have been. But I was surprised to find it is actually a well-written family drama.

Both of Marnie's parents have secrets. But these secrets are the ones we keep to prevent hurting the ones we love. I kept asking myself “What would I do here?” Sometimes you just can‘t win, whichever choice you make.

ScrappyMags I had the same reaction! It‘s more of a “thinker” than a mystery but I loved it too. 4y

There is something special about B A Paris from the moment you open the first page she has you hooked.

The dilemma is another brilliant read. It‘s the day of a party but both Adam and Livia are holding things inside about their daughter Marnie. The party should be perfect it has been planned for years but the weight of the secrets they are each holding takes it toll

Definitely a book you won‘t want to put down.

I am a B.A. Paris fan, but this was not my favorite. It was slow-going and more of a family drama/general fiction than psych fiction/thriller, which is lot what I would have expected. If you go into it knowing that though, it might trim out better. #24in48 - Book 7 of #quarantinereads

ScrappyMags I totally agree - I have learned to take “jacket” summaries with a grain of salt. I liked that what it did was hang the suspense on that moment between finding out and telling. 4y

This book started out a little slow for me at first. It was clear there was a big secret and it took a while for it to come out. The. There were more secrets and decisions to be made. Both main characters made me incredibly mad at points and I felt sorry for them at other points. It wasn‘t long before I had to know how things played out and couldn‘t stop reading. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As a character study on grief, the author does very well. But that‘s just not what you go into the book expecting.

ScrappyMags I agree! The book could be described MUCH better. 4y

A thin plot stretched even thinner. This may have worked to a 100-page novella, but as a 350-page novel it is dull and repetitive. Avoid.

What a waste of time this book was. The two main characters were annoying. The story dragged on way too long.

Liv is has dreamed about her 40th birthday party for years. I mean, this woman would make party planners look unprofessional. She probably had vision boards up for 20 years around her kitchen. She REALLY looked forward to this one event. So, when something happens to possibly spoil her big day, her husband hides a big secret from her. Liv has a secret of her own though; it‘s a big one too.

I have been eagerly anticipating another book by B A Paris, It didn't disappoint! Whilst not quite as suspenseful and unputdownable as I found Behind closed doors or The Breakdown to be, this book still kept me intrigued. Secrets a couple are keeping from each other. This book leaves you thinking how we should never take life or the people in our lives and the moments we get to spend with them for granted, ever. #jublyumph

Such a difficult book to review... I *really* couldn‘t put it down but it‘s rather unbelievable.
It centres around two dilemmas - both parents think that they know something terrible about their daughter, but don‘t want to tell the other so as not to ruin the Mum‘s 40th birthday party.
Be warned - one of the ‘dilemmas‘ is so much more than that, which is what made the book rather implausible.

4 stars though, for unputdownability!
