I wanted to post a sunny pic by the pool with my first book of the summer, but it's been raining in Denver all weekend so I've just been holed up inside like it's midwinter and feeling pretty cranky about it!

Jennifer Weiner's audiobook of Mrs. Everything was entertaining and thought-provoking for me. The storytelling was powerful and the narration was engaging, making it a significant listening experience for me. It left me with a deeper understanding and appreciation of the complexities of women's lives and relationships....

I have no idea how I missed the two women on this cover 🧡💗
Is this on anyone‘s tbr list?!
Usually I can‘t put down one of Weiner‘s books. This one had period that drug on and didn‘t feel like that. She covers important material I can appreciate her desire to tackle the female perspective over the years, but I didn‘t completely love this book.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 This book brings up a LOT. I found it hard to set aside. Maybe because I have sisters and know how complicated those relationships are.
All I know is, I was trying to finish this book while enjoying a snack and I got so emotional, I couldn't swallow and gave up on eating. 😅 Had to grab a tissue. My heart was in my throat. This would be a great for a book club discussion!
Not my favorite Jennifer Weiner book, but I still liked it. I liked Jo and Bethie whose lives we follow from the 1950s - 2022. My only complaint is the book dealt with too many issues: race, sexuality, drug abuse, rape, and sexual harassment. My big takeaway was a lesson I wish I‘d learned earlier. A character about what she wished she‘d taught her daughters: The world is hard enough, would beat them up enough, without them adding to the pain.
Time to get started on my book club book for November.
This was a perfect summer read! The weather was perfect for sitting on the patio - which is where I spent the majority of my weekend reading this book. Right read at the right time!
“We lose ourselves, but we find our way back” … it‘s about forgiving yourself and doing better now. We all mess up and wish we could erase parts of our lives, but we can‘t so it‘s about learning to move on and be better. “You try, fail, and try again”
It's a beautiful day out here, after yesterday's flooding and pouring rain. Enjoying this one so far - it really has been a perfect summer read for the patio with a glass of wine and some music playing in the background.
This was a delightful intersection of two of my favourite tropes - rich people problems & family sagas. Great summer reading for when you want something to sink into with some depth but still a page turner.
I am a Jennifer Weiner fan and this book did not disappoint me. I love books that take the characters through many years of their lives and that‘s exactly what this book does. It starts when they are young girls and takes them through to their later years. They grow and change and experience many highs and lows throughout their lives. It also covers many historical and sociological events along the way and how they are affected by them.
You're allowed to want to use your education. You're allowed to want to be more than a mother.
Jennifer Weiner, Mrs. Everything
Beautiful story of mothers, daughters and the complicated relationships that bind them. What defines these women, how they are valued in society and how they come to define themselves.
This was an ambitious attempt but there was too much going on here and research mistakes to boot for it to be entirely successful. Full review at https://booknaround.blogspot.com/2020/12/review-mrs-everything-by-jennifer-weine...
For some reason I went into this with the impression that it was going to be light, and while the writing style wasn‘t at all taxing, it was still anything but. It‘s the story of two sisters, told from both of their perspectives, spanning more than 50 years. I loved that the narrative style was unflinching, and I found the characters really relatable.

Great book! This story follows two girls growing up in Detroit. It starts when they are children and continues through their entire lives. It covers SO many different topics, in a real life, relatable way. Loved it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 this was such a good book. I felt it was a little long, which is why I gave it 4/5 stars. The story was strong and the characters were really well-developed.
This story was just ok for me. I feel like the beginning gave the ending away and I would have liked it better if I was wondering how things would turn out. Being from Detroit I loved all the references. This is probably my favorite part of the book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This might be my new favorite book from this author. It has everything. Same sex relationships, interracial relationships, a bit of #MeToo, women's rights, etc. In case you read this and missed it, the title is a pun.

I was a little behind on my Goodreads reading challenge, but a socially distanced 10 day sailing trip caught me up! Thankfully I enjoyed all the books I read on the trip. Mrs Everything was my first Jennifer Weiner, and it makes we want to read more, but I understand this is her only historical fiction. We‘ve come a long way, but we still have so much further to go.
Vacation book number 4. And rum punch. We‘re on a mooring today & tomorrow with nothing to do but hang out on the boat and relax. I‘m hoping to make a dent in this before returning to reality.
I used to love Jennifer Weiner books & still have a couple, but then I stopped reading her new ones for a long time. I enjoyed this story, the dual perspectives of the sisters, their struggles, & changes in society during their life. Weiner‘s characters are always relatable. The characters are women trying to be everything, live up to family & societal expectations, and fight for the lives they want. This is my #doublespin book @TheAromaofBooks
This is by far Jennifer Weiner‘s best book, a somewhat melancholy tale of two sisters trying their hardest to break free of the constraints placed on them by their sex, by their religion, by their time and by living in a patriarchal society. I grew to love both sisters, wanting to hug them at one moment and shake them at the next. And the ending—which highlights how far women have come and how far we still have to go—was absolutely lovely.
A friend sent me this sometime back. A tale of two sisters, but ultimately a story of life and all its messy complications. I really enjoyed it.
Just a great great book. Compassionate to it's main characters... As though the author truly loved the people she created.
I am so loving Mrs. Everything. I'll miss it so much when it's done! I'm not sure if I would have picked it up next, though, if it weren't for #bookspin. The blurb was pretty run of the mill. It's great. Read it!
But what's next??

All four were audiobooks. I've numbered them in the order that I enjoyed them, with the tagged book being the best book that I read this month. The only one I didn't enjoy was Zodiac, but i will still read the entire series 🙄
A book recommended by a friend - my Litsy friends! I saw a lot of you reading it so I decided to jump on the bandwagon.
I am HEARTHBROKEN. This is the best book I have read in so long. I read the reviews that said that there was too much covered in this book or that it was too long, but those are not my opinions at all. These were real lives of two sisters. Some fucked up lives, some real struggles, but authentic, real lives. I'm crying. I needed this book to be longer. I want more.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Wow. Friendly neighborhood demisexual here. I remember the first time I was attracted to my best friend (a girl). I remember feeling "unnatural". Shaming your daughter for it is not the way to handle this. I'm glad I found out my sexuality in the 2010s and not in the 1950s....
I am heartbroken while listening to this... 😭 how can you take advantage of a little girl like this? And how can you not trust your daughter when she says that something is wrong?
Since she‘s got such a hot book coming out now, I figured it was time to read her last year‘s effort. This spans several decades in the lives of 2 sisters and covers an astounding amount of ground including child molestation, drug use, rape, #metoo themes, coming out, etc. It was a very interesting read. I think it could have used a bit more editing, but I really liked the 2 sisters and how they played the cards they were dealt.
Parts of this book chronicling the lives of 2 sisters are great and speed right along in the way I expect from Jennifer Weiner. Other sections, including the first 50 pages, are clunky and overworked. Not her best, but I definitely enjoyed pieces of it.
