“Two sisters.
One brutal murder.
A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself...
And an intoxicating romance.”
Okay, this one was a fun and entertaining read! Solid world building, an interesting magic system, with lots of tension and mystery and angst. And it leaves you hanging, with only part of the mystery solved, so… Emilia is a passionate heroine, who grows stronger and more determined as the story progresses, and her relationship with the demon Wrath is a thorny delight. Enemies to…slightly less angry enemies? I‘ll be reading the next, for sure.
⭐️⭐️⭐️½ Almost a 4 star read. The ending felt a bit murky for me but I liked the characters and want to see what happens next.
4.75⭐
I really enjoyed this! It's my first book by Maniscalco and I loved her writing!
Wrath and Emilia are great characters. I enjoy their sass and banter and Emilia's courage in the face of true danger.
The food, the Italian setting, the witchcraft, and the strong family element made this more than just a spooky/fantasy/mystery/ romance.
I can't wait to continue on. It def leaves you wanting more at the end!
🔥💀🔥
I just started this and...WOW!
✨ potential new favorite..maybe 🤔✨
The Italian coastal setting, the talk of all the delicious food, witchcraft, spooky stories about the princes of Hell, and a grandma that reminds me so much of my own 🖤
Love, love, love
🖤🖤🖤
I didn‘t love this, but it was enjoyable enough that I would like to continue the series. I think I like her Stalking Jack the Ripper series better.
Loved this book! It kept my attention throughout the whole book, leaving me anxious to get into the next.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was VERY well done. The sound effects heighten the overall experience and put you right in the scene.
I felt like this book was purely set-up material for the series; didn‘t delve too much into the action. I think the first book in a series should also be able to serve as a stand-alone without needing a whole series to support it. The setup made me intrigued to finish the series, though. I love the world/plot. I wish certain information was made more clear/was better mapped out so I wasn‘t left wondering if I was understanding everything. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book was the absolutely perfect cure to the hangover I had after finishing The Folk of the Air series.. I have heard good things, but I was surprised by the depth of the plot, characters, and magic system. It‘s the perfect mix of everything needed to make you forget about the bustling world we live in. Highly recommend
I loved all of this. Finished it in about a day and a half. Excited to continue the series… that damn Wrath pulled me in.
This book has all the elements of a great read : interesting characters, action, ancient curses and sizzling romance. Great ending that made me immediately run out and purchase the next book this afternoon.
So it took me a bit to finish but it was not the book. I was just supper busy but once I got the time and started the book I couldn't put it down! Simply amazing and Wrath broke my heart 💔 can't wait till next book! :) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Almost forgot to post points...

Managed to get one last book before midnight. The writing was a bit so-so and the characters weren't always well drawed, but I liked the worldbuilding and I want to see where the series goes next.
Neither of tjose things go very well 🤷♀️

74%, but I have other books I want to read more than this one so moving on.
I'm off work the next week, and have no plans besides sleepong, so I'm going to set a goal to finish 4 books 🤞

Outside, wind rattled the wooden chimes in warning.

Happy October! 🎃🍁🍂❤️🧡💛 Even though I've already been celebrating for a month, it's now officially spooky season! 😂
The farmer's market is all decked out in spooky decorations! It looks amazing! I got apple cider donuts, croissants, honey, and cheese! Mmmm! 😋
I've finally started this trilogy! I wanted to wait until all three books were out before jumping in! 💕📚
My #bookspin list for October. Also using this as a reading list for #scarathlon2022 #prompmaze #spookoween and #31by31.
I have two weeks vacation this month, so I'm hoping to get through most of these books 🤗
"People carved words into weapons often but they only had power if I listened to them instead of trusting in myself."
While I liked the book I just struggled with the book so I‘m putting it down for now May come back when I‘m not so stressed out so I can pay attention to what‘s going on
Emilia & Vittoria are twin witches, raised to believe the folklore of the underworld & its inhabitants, the Wicked. But Emilia soon realizes those bedtime stories have become her nightmarish reality, when her twin is viciously murdered, her body left mutilated. Overcome with grief, Emilia finds herself in an unlikely alliance- engulfed in the very world she had been warned of her entire life… where she must sacrifice everything for vengeance.
Seen some people describe this series as romantic fantasy - not really getting that from this first book. This one is more about a young woman coming into her power, dealing with grief and trying to survive and protect those she loves.
A good solid fantasy with a particularly strong beginning.
This book was a bit slow to begin with but once the story picked up it was hard to put down. The only downside I had was some moments it felt like she over explained simple things and at times it felt like it was more a cookbook the way she explained every step and ingredient in some of the cooking moments but overall a pick and would definitely read again

Finally finished The Magpie Society. I really enjoyed this read, I didn‘t find it as eventful as some of the books I normally read but was definitely a pick in my opinion. I‘m hoping the next book will be more exciting
So now onto my next book Kingdom of the Wicked already on chapter 12 and I‘m loving it so far

I'm so grateful to be taking a few quiet days away with @Johanna414 and a few other good friends. We found a house in the country with a hot tub and a very comfy reading couch (not to mention pasta delivery to the house). I kept seeing this book on Instagram, so I grabbed a copy on my way out the door.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 All the stars!!! 🤩 This was divine! And the cover is intoxicating! I could hardly put it down and I read it just in time for the release of book 2. Of course I had to dive right into that one. 😁🤗

📚 Both. It depends on the book.

#Two4Tuesday Thanks for the tag @TheSpineView !
1. The Mummy with Brendan Frasier. Misery is a good one too.
2. I think the tagged book would make a good movie.

I couldn‘t put this book down. The world building and characters were amazing. I loved it! Now I just have to wait for the next one to come out...⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book wasn‘t well written: I was annoyed at how it seemed to just repeat itself in the beginning. But somewhere along the way I became entranced. I have a few more complaints about little stuff (definitely feel like they could have pushed even darker with this one) but I have to rate this well since I‘m so invested in the story that I preordered book 2. “In the end, the monster we feared didn‘t come from Hell. He came from privilege.”
Kerri Maniscalco has yet to give me a book I don't absolutely devour. I could not put this down. I had to know what was going to happen next.
This popped up on my Instagram feed. The artist is so talented and this fits the book perfectly.

This was kinda messy BUT fun. There's a lot of exposition. Details got tangled up, as though the author had SO many ideas she just shoved them all in. There wasn't a lot of world-building or reality...Emilia is 18 in a small Catholic town and she just runs around doing whatever she wants and no one questions it...but all that being said it was quick brain candy. I look forward to the next one...hopefully Kerri can get some details reorganized.
I really liked the worldbuilding in this one. Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are witches who grew up with a grandmother who constantly warned them about the Princes of Hell. Emilia seeks answers and vengeance after her sister is murdered and this leads her to one of those Princes. After the ending and the description of the next book, I'm absolutely going to read the next book.
This was my #DoubleSpin
I loved this book! It started a little slow and I was about to give up but then it picked up the pace. The audiobook version is awesome! Completely recommend.
