Three Weeks with Lady X
Three Weeks with Lady X | Eloisa James
27 posts | 36 read | 14 to read
Having made a fortune, Thorn Dautry, the powerful bastard son of a duke, decides that he needs a wife. But to marry a lady, Thorn must acquire a gleaming, civilized faade, the specialty of Lady Xenobia India. Exquisite, head-strong, and independent, India vows to make Thorn marriageable in just three weeks. But neither Thorn nor India anticipate the forbidden passion that explodes between them. Thorn will stop at nothing to make India his. Failure is not an option. But there is only one thing that will make India his . . . the one thing Thorn can't afford to lose . . . his fierce and lawless heart.

I mostly loved this. India is a delightful, interesting protagonist. She and Thorn, her love interest, become great friends. The supporting characters are all wonderful, with sweet Lala and über-serious Rose being my faves.

But y‘all, Thorn pulls so much alpha male bullshit that I‘d have bailed if I hadn‘t loved India on contact. He was lovely for long stretches, until BAM! He reverted to Stereotypical Hero #1. It frustrated me.

Further #audiobaking. My dad requested lemon sour cream tarts. The lemon custard has to totally cool before you blend in the sour cream, so I made that first thing this morning, along with various crusts to put the finished product in. It gave me a chance to finish my first Eloisa James novel.

In the late afternoon, I blended & filled everything. Now my dad‘s got six tarts and I‘ve got a pie in the freezer.

xicanti If you want to make your own lemon sour cream pie (aka THE BEST PIE), here‘s the recipe -
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/sour-cream-lemon-pie/ It works great in regular pie crust OR poured into a Golden Oreo crust and frozen. Oreo crusts use one pack of Double Stuf cookies ground up and blended with 4T melted butter before they‘re pressed into a pie dish and baked at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.

hes7 Yum! 😋 5y
xicanti Oh, and Taste of Home attached the wrong picture to the recipe. The lemon custard‘s pretty similar to what you‘ll find in a lemon meringue pie, but the results are totally different. 5y

mreads They look delicious and the recipe calls for heavy cream, so they must be awesome 5y
xicanti @mreads I actually treat the cream as optional. I don‘t use it at all on the frozen version of the pie, and when I serve the non-frozen version I put a small bowl (or a can of the squirty variety) on the table so people can choose whether or not to top their piece with cream. Some do and some don‘t. I personally find it cuts away too much of the tartness I eat the pie for in the first place. 5y

And now, fridge pickles! I‘ve squeezed in lots of good #audiocooking this weekend.

THREE WEEKS WITH LADY X continues to delight and frustrate. Every time I start to maybe like Thorn, he pulls some alpha male bullshit. Sigh.

Tamra Yum, my favorite! 5y
xicanti @Tamra I made them for the first time a few weeks ago, and they were so good I had to do a couple more jars! 5y
Seekingtardis I would love the recipe!! 5y
See All 7 Comments
xicanti @Seekingtardis it‘s really simple. For these two jars, I used 2 large cucumbers, 3-4 sprigs of dill, 5 cloves of garlic, 3 dried chilies, 1/2 cup each of apple cider vinegar and water, 1/2 tsp each of mustard seeds, sugar, and whole peppercorns, and 3 tsp salt. I packed the first four ingredients into the jars, then brought the rest to a simmer and poured it over the cucumbers et al. The pickles are best if you wait 5-7 days to eat them. 5y
Tamra @xicanti I‘ll try it! 5y
xicanti @Seekingtardis @Tamra I just realized I gave the wrong proportions for the vinegar & water. They should be 1 cup each. 5y
Seekingtardis Yum!! I‘m going to try it this week!! 5y

My morning #audiowalk involved lots of leaf-strewn sidewalks. We lost a ton during the monsoon. 😔

I‘m still in a weird place with this book. I love everything about it except the hero. He and I MIGHT become casual acquaintances, but I still don‘t like him enough that I can root for him to end up with the lovely India. He‘s got his good points, yeah, but he‘s also chauvinistic. I ain‘t the type to wait around for characters like that to change.

The chard tart isn‘t the most photogenic thing out there, but it tastes SO GOOD! Sweet chard (with almonds and brandy-poached raisins) is delicious, and the layer of apples adds a lot of nuance to the flavour. I think it‘ll make an excellent breakfast tomorrow.

This was definitely worth a couple hours of #audiobaking. Thanks for the recipe, @Lindy !

Lindy 👏👏👏 I‘m so glad you like it. 😊 5y

Now I‘ve got a chard tart in the oven! @Lindy suggested the recipe when I posted about my chard excess—and it turns out the tart calls for so much chard I had to ask my neighbour if I could cut some more from his garden! I sure hope everyone likes it. All the chard chopping took ages.

I‘m enjoying this book very much. The hero hasn‘t totally redeemed himself, but I like him a lot better now than I did in the beginning. #audiobaking

Lindy 😍🥬 5y
xicanti @Lindy I‘m on tenterhooks for it to come out of the oven and cool off enough that I can cut a slice. 5y

It‘s gonna be a big #audiocooking evening, I think. I finished THERE‘S SOMETHING ABOUT SWEETIE and started the tagged book while I chopped more chard and made this delicious warm Brussels sprout salad for late lunch/early supper.

This is my first Eloisa James, and so far I love the heroine and the basic setup but wouldn‘t wish the hero on anyone. One of THOSE. I sure hope he improves.

wildwoodreads That looks divine! 5y

This was a 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review from me! It had a very unique plot—heroine is an interior designer/hero is a former street urchin & duke‘s bastard—and the sexual tension (some of it is through letters) is HOT!!🔥I think my favorite part of the novel was, however, the heroine‘s backstory. Original, creative, and heartbreaking—all at the same time. Eloisa James does it again!💕💕💕

#TGIF - I picked up the last three of this series the other day. I have been buying copies of all the Eloisa James books I can find so I can re-read them whenever I want. There is always a waiting list at my library.
She never disappoints.

Couldn‘t put this fun historical #romantsy down. Lady Xenobia India is a fixer, she solves staffing problems in aristocratic households, she redecorates country estates for exorbitant fees. She‘s just accepted her most difficult job- turning the irascible Thorn Dautry into a proper gentleman. Full of punny high jinks and sexy times 🔥

I have a problem. I am addicted to Eloisa James‘ books! This one in particular was one of her best. I enjoyed the characters immensely - India had to be one of my favorites from all of her books. I found myself ignoring all the errands and housekeeping that needed to be done, and spent all weekend curled up with India and Thorn. And I loved every minute of it. Which book of hers should I read next?

Well, I guess I‘m going to have more time to read this, since I just lost my job. I was feeling really anxious earlier and couldn‘t pinpoint why (not that I need a reason), and now I guess I know. Very strange day.
