Delightful!
Delightful!
The story of the downfall of Troy in a nutshell. Although I had a vague idea of things (the war, Helen, Achilles, the Trojan horse etc) I wasn't sure of events & who had fought on which side, so reading an 'accessible to newbies' version such as this one is a good introduction. It's written in Fry's distinctive droll style but I find it impossible to say I enjoyed reading it mainly because all the characters are just so...awful. (continued)

5/5 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕 I love Stephen Fry‘s Greek Books. I hope he does do The Odyssey #greekmythology #stephenfry
A great re-telling of the myth of Troy. Stephen Fry brings the gods and goddesses to life with great humour, knowledge and sense of story-telling. One of the reasons the myths endure & continue to resonate is the human traits the god(desse)s display & this is wonderfully exemplified by Fry‘s books. (Zeus & Hera as a fiesty married couple are my faves). I recommend them all on audio too as he narrates them. A fun, informative read.
I'm not sure I'm ready for the end of this series... but I'm starting Troy anyway
I adored the first 2 books in this series & couldn‘t wait for this one. Unlike the others, which skip between stories of different gods & heroes, this is a continuing tale about the Trojan war. There is less room for humor as the body count increases & soon no one is untouched by the ravages of loss. I knew the story well from many sources, but the author brings his own rye humor to the retelling & the audio is wonderful. I‘d recommend all three!
First book of 2022! I loved Mythos, and when Barnes and Noble had their 1/2 priced hardcover sale, I picked this one up! Apparently it‘s the third in the series, after Heroes, but I don‘t think it‘s necessary to read the others before this one. I love the humor that Fry puts into his retellings, but it‘s comforting to know he also does serious research too - quoting modern scholars and original Greek sources.
The excellent conclusion to Stephen Fry's mythology trilogy was well worth the wait. His wry sense of humor helped make it easier to understand and remember all the names and relationships of the huge cast of characters.

@Andrew65
Because what better way to end the year without some good Greek Mythology ⚔️
Maybe my favourite version of this meme so far…
1. It would be a tie between the tagged book and Evil Roman Emperors. Both were amusing and wonderfully snarky, and I've recommended both to other readers.
2. Nothing beyond the usual readathon challenges for September.

I loved this book as much as the previous two books, Mythos & Heroes, of the trilogy. Unlike the other two books, the gods are more sideline meddlers than main characters in the story of Troy. Classic heroes like Hector, Ajax, Ulysses, Achilles & Agamemnon are here in all their glory. I never cared for Paris in all the stories I've read, and here he's shown in a very unflattering light. 5 ⚔⚔⚔⚔⚔

The final book in Fry‘s Greek trilogy. For me, this was the most challenging to keep straight - there are so many names (people, Gods, monsters, places). Fry is as always amusing and I appreciated the afterword in which he discussed myth v reality. I am looking forward to reviewing the illustrated hard copies.
5 stars from me. I loved this. So very well told by Stephen Fry. I have heard there will be a 4th volume in the series and there is absolutely no question I will read it 😊
Stephen Fry is a treasure!
He brings the stories and characters to life once again, can't get enough of his retellings.
A witty and informed retelling of the Trojan war and all the key 'players'. But what else would we expect from Stephen Fry? I will be waiting with anticipation for a possible fourth volume about the Greeks return from Troy ❤
Curled up, tackling this tier 4 life by thoroughly enjoying some of my Christmas presents 🎁 Happy holidays everyone ❤
