Another magical graphic novel. This one involves water dragons and a young witch who is struggling to control her powers. I loved the tricky family dynamics that were discussed and the lovely friendship between Sophie and Lir.

Sophie reminded me so much of Sophie Hatter (Howl‘s Moving Castle) with her overwhelming self doubt, low self esteem and desire to meet and exceed family expectations. She also reminded me of Kiki (of Kiki‘s Delivery Service) as she‘s a young witch who is sent away from home to learn magic. Also - this book contains dragons - so it‘s basically perfect. The overworked dragon clerk who is just so DONE with dragon/work politics 😘🤌🏼 relatable!!!

I LOVED this book!!! It was so heartwarming, fun, and beautifully illustrated! 😍😍😍

Sophie's misadventures when her determination to prove herself intersects with a dragon's life is a magical, rewarding story and the art is so beautiful! I loved Wendy Xu's Mooncakes, and I think I liked this one even more, which I didn't think was possible. #AAPI #Dragon #Comics

I absolutely loved this. It was such a rich, captivating story that really keeps you reading. Usually graphic novels really speed through the story, but this one felt fully developed. I wish there was another book because I enjoyed this one so much

This was such a cute graphic novel!
The artwork was amazing (particularly with the water dragons and ocean texture) and very appropriate for the middle grade audience of this book.
I really liked the overall messages of “encouraging/non-disciplinarian education methods are better than harshness”.

Absolutely beautiful art here, but just a mediocre MG read about confidence and communication. I think the ending wrapped up a bit too neatly, the adult characters changing their minds to really just move the plot along and not in a very organic way.

This was such a cute graphic novel!

I‘ve read Mooncakes, which is another graphic novel the author co-wrote, and loved it so I knew I needed to read this one.

Overall, I recommend this book to readers of all ages who love magic, witches, or dragons. This book also makes a great gift because it is a gorgeous hardcover!

She goes to train with relatives and while practicing, entangles her magic with that of a water dragon. Needless to say, this leads to all sorts of trouble. This is fun MG graphic bowel filled with magic, adventure, family rivalries, and friendship. It‘s also one I think young readers will enjoy. On sale 11/16/21.
