A new Connelly mystery I read today-and it was great!

Day 7 of #scarathlondailyprompts is victim. Another murder victim, another case, another Bosch book.
This is one of my husband‘s books. He really enjoys this series.

This series is starting to feel a little insubstantial. Not light, at least not in content, but it feels too intentionally and superficially tied to reality, like a checklist (LA traffic, homelessness, pandemic, insurrection: check). That said, I'm still enjoying it quite a bit. The stories and interactions between characters are engaging, and it's a welcome break to put Connelly's books in my headphones after people talking to me all day.
Bosch and Ballard are such a good team! If you like books with kick ass female heroes this one‘s for you!!!
One of my most reliable authors, Connelly always manages to organically inject current social commentary into his stories without it feeling preachy. Ballard and Bosch are such a fantastic team and I will be sad when Harry hangs it up for good.
I‘m probably not going to go out and walk (or really do much of anything) today, so here‘s yesterday‘s walk. Still 3 hours left in this book. I‘m a little frustrated with it in one aspect (spoiler in comment), but otherwise I‘m liking it. #audiowalk
I‘m so glad I decided to get my walk in early today — now it‘s raining. The Dark Hours is my new walking book, and so far, I like it. I‘m not a huge Ballard fan, but I‘m liking her better in this book. I still hate that macho “I‘ve got to run myself into the ground and work extra hours even if I don‘t get paid” attitude. How does not taking care of yourself benefit the people you‘re trying to help? It doesn‘t. #audiowalk
I just love everything Michael Connelly does, so obviously I loved this hotly anticipated addition to the Ballard/Bosch mashup. This one takes place in covid times, amidst a lot of tension between communities and the police. Ballard struggles with finding a balance on how to be a great cop in a department that often has other priorities. Very timely and Connelly absolutely nailed it!

This one was the best in the Renee Ballard series so far. The audio was great, and I hope Ballard and Bosch continue to work together in future books.
@Andrew65
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ballard will always be Olivia Benson to me… 😂 Connelly nails what it‘s like during the pandemic- masks, those who don‘t wear them and working in the public - being a cop in 2021. I related as a teacher to all of it including the career fatigue all mixed in with an edge-of-the-seat mystery (2 actually!)… one of Connellys best. Full review ScrappyMags.com
Loved this one. Ballard and Bosch make a fabulous team, and Lakin does a terrific job with the narration. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Got to spend half an hour browsing B&N this afternoon. 😁
The latest in the Bosch and Ballard series! I'm slightly disappointed but it did pick up towards the end and I did end up enjoying it.
I enjoyed this one. Love the balance of Ballard and Bosch.
I‘m sort of anticipating a Ballard future with maybe Bosch‘s daughter making an appearance. That‘s not a spoiler but my thoughts!
In this tightly plotted police procedural set during the pandemic, night shift detective Renee Ballard must balance the demands of a New Year's Eve shooting investigation with the search for two serial rapists. Ballard is a worthy successor to the legendary Harry Bosch; she cares more about solving the case and seeking justice for the victim than she does about sleep, her career, PR fallout for the LAPD, or the consequences of insubordination.
Hairdresser read 😁😁
This is the best Renee Ballard book thus far. It was so good! The cases in this installment were pretty gritty and pulse pounding. I don‘t know how I‘m going to sleep now.
The best thing about it was the time Connelly took to interject social commentary in between all of the action. It wasn‘t preachy or haphazard. Everything from Rona, the vaccine to George Floyd and the attack on the Capitol. Can‘t wait for the next one!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🎧 I didn‘t want to like this audiobook. I want a BOSCH book!!! Not a Rene Ballard story!!
So it‘s two stories/cases in one.
A gang member turned respectable business owner is murdered.
Tag team serial rapists are on the loose.
I loved it! See above for possible TW! This isn‘t the 1st Bosch book so if you‘ve read others, you know what you‘re in for! Took off 1/2⭐️ cuz she‘s no Bosch! Titus Welliver had brief cameos. BOSCH FAN!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Everything is crazy stressful at the moment, then this arrives in my mailbox! Thanks, past me, for pre-ordering and then forgetting all about it so it came as a delightful surprise.
