That means it's time for this generation's Slayer to be born. But being the first ever Slayer-Witch means learning how to wield a stake while trying to control her budding powers. With the help of Hailey, a werewolf named Jake, and a hot but nerdy sage demon, Frankie must become the Slayer, prevent the Hellmouth from opening again, and find out what happened to her Aunt Buffy, before she's next. 4 ⭐ Welcome back to the Buffy verse. Long time viewers know that there is only one born in every generation. And that the only way to get a new slayer for the previous slayer to die. That is until Willow and Buffy get together and make sure every possible slayer is given their powers so they can defeat evil. But that was 16 years ago. Something has happened to the slayers. At least four are dead, and no one knows where the others are at.

LibrarianRyan We‘re back in Sunnydale with Willow who has a daughter named Frankie. And her daughter has been called up to be the next slayer. Frankie has always known she‘s a witch and has always wanted to be a slayer, but when the actual time comes, yikes! However, she won‘t be alone. Vi‘s sister comes into the picture and Oz‘s nephew who was a born werewolf (not a “made” one) are Frankie‘s best friends. They will create a new Scooby game and start getting 5mo
LibrarianRyan down to the bottom of what is happening in Sunnydale. Is the Hellmuth really reopening? This book was fun. It does not end on a cliffhanger, but you don‘t get the end of the story so have book two on hand. If you are a Buffy person, you‘re going to like this book. If you‘ve never watched Buffy in your lifetime, but you like the idea of vampires check this out. My nephew got hooked on the audiobook in the car with us, and he only listened to an h 5mo
LibrarianRyan an hour! It‘s nice to see vampire that don‘t sparkle and are sometimes the bad guys. 5mo

julesG Off to get the audiobook. Thanks Ryan! 5mo
LibrarianRyan @julesG just don't make the mistake I did. I kept mixing up book 1 and two because my audiobook player was not leving the books in the “reading“ section. I ended up switching between books 1 and 2 so many times. It is not even funny. 5mo
julesG I think I'll buy them one by one to avoid confusion. 5mo

If you loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer (like I still do to a near-embarrassing level) or Kendare Blake, then this is the book for you! Amazing new Scoobies, original characters making a reappearance, and just the right perfectly campy, quippy tone!

I loved Buffy the show and just loved this book! It felt very consistent with the show, only now focusing on the next generation and centering Willow‘s daughter, Frankie. Blake is clearly a fan and I felt like she nailed it. I can‘t wait for the next installment (already requested from my library)!

Thank you @FantasyChick for the #creepychristmas package. I am really looking forward to the book. The face masks definitely falls under creepy when you put them on. It made my skin feel lovely, but my husband said he couldn‘t even look at me and my son this morning when we had them on as he said he felt we looked like characters out of a horror film. Lol
We had a lot of laughs with them.

Thanks @teebe for hosting

teebe 😂😂 That is great 2y
FantasyChick Bahahaha I love this!!! So happy you liked everything. I got a notice that the other package has been delayed but hopefully it gets here soon 🤞 Hope you guys had a great holiday! 2y

My #LetterI rec is for all the Buffy fans out there... especially Willow, Oz, and Spike fans, as they're the only original scoobies in the book. My theory is it's because Disney is playing the long game, starting with books they hope to adapt for a TV reboot with these original cast members because, let's be honest, SMG isn't going back lol The book even creates a reason to age up Spike 🧐
Here for it.

ShyBookOwl @llwheeler Me too. I am really hoping my theory is correct. And the new slayer is Willow's daughter, with Spike as her watcher. It all worked very well. 2y

Just a little #BirthdayBookHaul 😍😍

I'm trying not to spend a lot of money on new books these days BUT Chapters had a Buy 3 Get 1 Free sale that I had to take advantage of. Plus, I had a credit and my yearly coupon code so these were practically free 🤣 My preorder of Kingdom of the Feared will be here in Sept!

Will shiny new books jump start my summer reading? Probably not, but they look nice! 🤣

As a *MASSIVE* Buffy fan (I was once the treasurer of an “I Love David Boreanaz” Fan Club; I role-played as Queen C in Buffy chat rooms; later, I wrote my letter of intent to get into grad school *ABOUT* Buffy), I was obviously going to be disappointed by this book. And I was. 😅🙈 More spoiler-laden details in the comments…but suffice it to say that if you‘re going to write a BtVS book, you have to stick to the vampire lore created for the show.

Alfoster So cool you were such a Buffy fan!😝❤️ 3y
monalyisha 1/4: Here‘s my biggest gripe: too much “Daywalker” bullshit. Spike can exist in the daylight (within boundaries) with a simple spell; the Countess can soak up the sun due to her strict virgin diet. If there are two loopholes (three counting the Ring of Amara), it stands to reason that there could be more — & that Buffy & Angel‘s relationship could have been vastly different. I‘m *very* upset about this. (edited) 3y
monalyisha 2/4: Also, the way Spike‘s character was represented rubbed me entirely the wrong way. I know he‘s got a soul & blah blah blah…but “Uncle Spike”??? Really?! The familiar adult characters didn‘t feel independent enough. Their voices felt…adequately consistent…but they needed more agency, not just a pedestrian effort to establish them as grown-ups/responsible parental figures. (edited) 3y
See All 19 Comments
monalyisha 3/4: Finally: I‘m not sure how I feel about Frankie‘s conception. I want to hate it. I think I kind of do? A gay Immaculate Conception? The Spirit of the First Slayer is her Other Mom? I know Willow invited the spirit to possess her but it still feels like a lack of consent. And speaking of LGBTQ issues, I think to be a modern update to the story, there needed to be better & more representation. (edited) 3y
monalyisha 4/4: I‘ve always felt a bit like Willow‘s story walked the line of bi-erasure & I genuinely never liked Tara‘s character (though she could be strong, she was often portrayed as a pouty victim)…but Willow being gay was SUCH a big deal, in terms of representation, culture-wise. None of the new Scoobies show any inclination toward diversity, in terms of love & gender. One positive, I guess: I‘m inspired to watch a documentary about Bathory. 🤷‍♀️ (edited) 3y
monalyisha Note: I recognize that this is not a good review. Far too much passion & not nearly enough finesse. But I‘m basically 13 again (within these pages, & upon reflection when considering them after the fact). Please don‘t expect too much of me. 3y
Dragon Have to agree with you about Tara - was Anya in the book ? I always enjoyed her character and her inexplicable fear of rabbits 🐇. 3y
monalyisha @Dragon Tara was my least favorite character. It may have been how she was written, or the way Amber Benson inhabited her role. Part of it might have been because, as a nerdy teen dating a boy in a band, I loved Oz. Maybe I was bitter. Hard to know for sure. Anya wasn‘t in the book! Just Willow, Oz, & Spike. Xander‘s in it, but it‘s just his voice via phone calls. Dawn & Giles are mentioned; they could be in future books. Vi (Felicia Day), too. (edited) 3y
monalyisha @Dragon Buffy & Faith are mentioned, too, but they (along with Vi, whose niece is one of the new Scoobies) are purported to have died as the result of a bomb explosion (which happens in the first few pages & is in the synopsis). Much doubt is cast upon this fact - but it‘s unclear as to who is left alive. 3y
Laughterhp I don‘t have any intention to read this, but I loved buffy. This vampire lore seems like she was reading The Vampire Diaries. They can go out in the sun if wearing a ring or something that has magic imbued in it. 3y
monalyisha @Laughterhp Right. That‘s what the Ring of Amara was in the original show but I‘m sure you recall that it was destroyed. In this, Willow‘s able to cast a spell to allow Spike to be out in the daytime w/in boundaries (so he can be her daughter‘s new Watcher & the School Librarian???). The villain, “The Countess” (Elizabeth Bathory,) is basically invincible (including being able to sunbathe at her leisure) due to her strict diet of virgin blood. 🙄 3y
Dragon Thanks @monalyisha sounds like a lot of main characters are “killed” off before the book starts 🤔🐉 3y
monalyisha @Dragon Potentially! 3y
Dragon 👍😂💚🐉 3y
LeeRHarry Oh no, well that really is disappointing 😐 3y
TheKidUpstairs I keep seeing this one at the store, but have been too afraid of disappointment to pick it up. I instinctively distrust anything trying to play around in the Buffyverse. I did enjoy this one though: 3y
monalyisha @TheKidUpstairs I‘ve missed out on more new Buffy content than I knew! I‘ll admit, though, that I‘ve never read the comics. Maybe I should just go back and do that? 3y
braddsibbersen No book or comic can quite capture the tone of his shows for some reason. 3y

I've been a HUGE Buffy fan since the show premiered. It's obvious that Blake knows her Buffy - the details, the backstory, even the personalities of the characters - are all spot on. It did take me a while to get into - for the most part, the book deals with a new, younger generation of characters - but the plot was just like an episode of the show. The author did a great job bringing a new cast of characters to life.

Omg. Yes. It's witty, fun, and bursting at the seams with nostalgia, while also doing a great job at being it's own thing. I ❤ what they did with Spike, and I ❤❤ that the new slayer is Willow's daughter. Could it have been more diverse? Definitely! Will ppl be divided on the Willow/Oz storyline? Probably. Did I miss Buffy? Not really. It's a new Scooby gang, all connected to the OG show, and I think it works really well. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Book 8 of 2022

Well, since its too early to find fanart for the book...I chose a picture of the actress who plays the slayer Vi on the Buffy tv show. Ya know...cause I can. Have you ever cried at the beginning of a book??? Well I did with this one! It sure was nice to have old characters back. Plus new characters whom ya just cant help but fall in love with. I give this book 4.5/5🍪 I cant wait for the next one!

I am a Kendra‘s Blake fan so when this new book came out I immediately grabbed it. I had no idea it was a Buffy the Vampire Slayer book! There is obviously a lot of Buffy canon I have no knowledge of and this book tries to catch you up on everything you might have missed….which is A LOT. I found all of those stories distracting. This one is about Buffy and Willow‘s children…the next generation of vampire slayers. I think I should rewatch TV show!

In Every Generation by Kendare Blake is a young adult contemporary fantasy novel and continuation of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. A catastrophe at a Slayer meeting has forced a new one to rise and despite her pedigree she is not prepared to save the world. This was a fun and nostalgic read for Buffy fans old and new. I‘m curious to hear the backstory of the missing Slayers and what will happen next for Frankie and the gang.
