Wild Fire: The Shetland Series 8
Wild Fire: The Shetland Series 8 | Ann Cleeves
The eighth, and final book, in Ann Cleeves bestselling Shetland series a major BBC One drama starring Douglas Henshall as Jimmy Perez. Shetland: Welcoming. Wild. Remote. Drawn in by the reputation of the islands, a new English family move to the area, eager to give their autistic son a better life. But when a young nannys body is found hanging in the barn of their home, rumours of her affair with the husband begin to spread like wild fire. With suspicion raining down on the family, DI Jimmy Perez is called in to investigate. For him it will mean returning to the islands of his on-off lover and boss Willow Reeves, who will run the case. Perez is already facing the most disturbing investigation of his career, when Willow drops a bombshell that will change his life forever. Is he ready for what is to come?

I enjoyed this book as much as any of the other Shetland mysteries, and I‘m sad to see the series end. Jimmy Perez is one of my favorite characters ever. As usual, this is a complex whodunnit, and I did not expect the solution of the murders. If I have to say goodbye to these characters, I‘m glad it was in such a well-written book.

Starting the last of the Shetland books. Hubby and I just finished the last season of the tv series, so I guess it‘s time.

Crazeedi I finished the series recently too! And have to start the shows, but I'm finishing up the Vera shows now. Love both series 1y
Lynnsoprano @Crazeedi I love the Shetland tv series, but only one season is based specifically on one of the books. But Jimmy Perez is very true to the character in the books, imo. And the scenery is awesome. 1y
Crazeedi My daughter told me , o guess that's why I haven't hurried to watch, but I will 1y

It is a good thing I recently stocked up on mysteries because that is all I have wanted to read recently. Sad to see this series end although I didn‘t love where things went for Perez. This was a mystery that kept me guessing until the end (and I was very wrong).

I‘ve finished the Shetland series! This ends at a good place and the book itself was an effortlessly delightful read. I sped through it in an afternoon. Just what I needed!

My first book down for #AwesomeAugust! I‘ve made a goal of five books and a Bingo for #BookSpinBingo. This was also my #Doublespin read. It‘s the final book in the Shetland series by Cleeves. The mystery, the atmosphere, the characters—all top notch as always. I‘m not sure I‘m sold on the ending; seemed too pat and at odds with the Perez we‘ve come to know, but it didn‘t diminish my enjoyment of the book.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I just reserved the first few books of this series from the library - it's been on my TBR for quite a while!! 3y

I obsessively watched Shetland on tv, but had never read any of Ann Cleave‘s books. So when I saw this at the library, I decided to try it. So glad I did! I love her writing. I am not getting out if bed this morning until this is done! Too good. Will read all of her work. I❤️it when I find new authors to read.

EadieB @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Nice! It is good to read her books in order but not absolutely necessary because some characters are recurring in other books. 4y
Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick Good to know. Maybe I'll try it and if I think I'll read more I'll start back at the beginning. 4y

Awww the series is over ☹️ another great murder mystery- with a surprise murderer I thought! Realistic?
Good end to the series, positive note but not neatly tied up.
I have finished a series 🎉🎉 means I can start a new one. Choices later for thoughts from my series readers!

MicheleinPhilly Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons! 4y
MsMelissa I still need to start this series. I think I have the first three or four books on my Kobo. 4y
erzascarletbookgasm This reminds me to continue with Book 3! And YAY for being able to start a new series! 😁 4y

TrishB @MicheleinPhilly that‘s on the list- I have managed to get 8 of them for 99p each 😁 4y
TrishB @Book_Fiend_Melissa I have really enjoyed it. Think it‘s strange that it ends at 8, but she has 2 other series so it‘s not like she isn‘t writing. 4y
TrishB @erzascarletbookgasm I have a long list! (edited) 4y
squirrelbrain That‘s what I was going to say @MicheleinPhilly ! I just read number 12, which came out this week. 4y
MicheleinPhilly @squirrelbrain I‘ve read 6 and have a few others out of order. I try to limit the purchases to just 99p or $.99 deals but I‘m sure I‘ll cave eventually. ☺️ 4y
squirrelbrain Yes, that what I try to do too @MicheleinPhilly, with all Kindle books actually. In the case of these though I‘ll often pay a bit more, as I know I love them. This latest one was Qa.99 on pre-order back in March. It was a lovely surprise when it arrived this week! 4y

Bk2 of my #StayHome24in48 #readathon & Bk16 of my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge is done! I love all Ann Cleeves but have a huge soft spot for Shetland & am sad it‘s the last. Islands fascinate me, living surrounded by the sea would be wonderful so anything set in an island I gravitate too & when it‘s written by a brilliant crime writer, so much the better. A nanny is found hanging in the barn of an incomer family, suspicion falls instantly on them.

I‘m baaack! I had a little sleep then woke up with a major headache so no reading was achieved. It‘s settled a bit so I‘ll try to get at least this book finished, but I‘m not sure I‘ll make the 24hrs. But I‘ll give it my best shot! #StayHome24in48 #readathon

It‘s almost 5am Sunday and I‘m cruising along with a herbal tea & Bk2 of my #StayHome24in48 #readathon which is also Bk16 of March. This one also counts towards my #MarchUnshelfing #challenge as it‘s been on my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom for about a year. The last in the Shetland series, I shall miss Jimmy Perez & the islands very much. I love that I can travel the world even though I‘m stuck in my house!🪑✈️

Clwojick I love that teacup ♥️😍 And great job on getting through some more of your #MountTBRofDoom 🎉 4y

I was so sad to finish this book because it is the last in the wonderful Shetlands Series, & this has to be one of my favourite series. What a rollercoaster ride it had been with emotions all over the place through this series, including this one. As expected with Ann Cleeves, almost impossible to guess the murderer as almost everyone had the motive and the opportunity! Will miss the Shetlands and Jimmy Perez so much. Totally recommend the series.

rretzler Now I‘ll have to get back on LT to see if you guys are discussing it yet. I too loved it and am going to miss Jimmy and Shetland. She has certainly left the door open, at least as far as the characters are concerned, so maybe she‘ll reconsider and follow up. 5y
Andrew65 @rretzler One can but hope, although she is starting another series based in Devon. This is the link to the Wild Fire Discussion. http://www.librarything.com/groups/bookdiscussionwildfi 5y
rretzler I‘ve already preordered Two Rivers! 5y

If you have not read this series I heartily recommend it.

Andrew65 @Tove_Reads Yes, any time from Saturday is good for me. @eadieb Most probably need to finish it before next Tuesday‘s baby sitting for Eadie. (edited) 5y
Tove_Reads @andrew65 @eadieb I‘m off two weeks starting now, but traveling the second half. Doing some intensive stuff the first week, but will def read as much as possible! Ready to start Heresy anytime. 5y

Sad that this is last book in series. I have found all of Ann Cleeves' books hook you and don't let go until the end. Characters are well-drawn and the plots are unique. Murderer is always hard to solve. Jimmy Perez is my favorite character but I was not happy with how he treated Willow news. If you haven't read this series yet, you need to start with book 1, Raven Black. Highly recommended for those who love mystery thrillers.

Heard the author on the ABC and she said this was her last Shetland book. However she did not say it was her last Jimmy Perez story so fingers crossed. Her husband died recently so her trips to the Shetlands are not so frequent. He was a bird watcher and she went along. This last Shetland book is dedicated to him. A good read. I enjoyed it. Love her descriptions of the islands. @MrsMalaprop

Crinoline_Laphroaig @jmofo I watched first 2 episodes but have been waiting for this last book before bingeing the rest. So really don't have preference yet. 6y

My 2nd #BookMail of August is another preorder. This is Bk8 in the Shetland series, which is brilliant. Set on the main island in the Shetlands, which are part of Scotland, DI Jimmy Perez is the head of the islands police force. Trying to look after 16 seperate islands in the archipelago takes a certain type of man & Perez, a born Shetlander(though on Fair Isle)is up for the task. I prefer Cleeves “Vera” series but I love the setting in this one.

Ole I like this series and look forward to this book 6y
Joanne1 @TheDoubleLetterThief are you onto this one yet? 6y
Jeg Love these books. Hope to make it to Shetland next year. 6y
