I have been diving into the book “It Ends with Us” by Colleen Hoover, and I must say that this novel is very compelling to me so far. The story follows Lily Bloom, who has overcome a lot of struggles in her life and is now starting her own flower shop in Boston. Lily met Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon with a non-relationship policy. They eventually fell inlove with each other.

sophia.aduviso Lily‘s relationship with Ryle is intense and passionate, but also brings up complicated emotions from her past traumas in her childhood. Things have made it more complicated for Lily when Atlas Corrigar, reappears in her life. His return brings back old memories and unresolved feelings for Lily. The story unfolds the theme of Love, resilience, forgiveness and complicated relationships that keeps readers like me, on the edge of their seat. 5h
sophia.aduviso This book continues to bring me curiosity and excitement to keep reading and find out more. This novel im reading is written in the first-person of view. In the book, Lily tells the story using “I,” “me” and “my”, sharing her personal thoughts, feelings and experiences directly only with the reader. Lily explains her feelings by saying things like “I felt” or “My heart raced.” 5h
sophia.aduviso When I read the book, it felt like i‘m reading Lily Bloom‘s diary and like she‘s talking directly to me, what the first-person point of view is suppose to feel like. The novel “The Chrysalids” and “It Ends with Us” have the same similarities because they both explores the theme of struggles and resilience 5h

Hoover impresses me every time.
I'm not one for Romances, I very rarely read them. But my cousin insisted I read this Duoligy, so here I am reading.

I previously read Confess with a book Club and was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I almost had the exact same reaction this time around.
Hoover does the normal Romance things that grind my nerves: The O! So hot male characters, the love triangle, the predictability of the storyline.

Enchanted_Bibliophile But then she throws in a twist, and the realness of the situation just hits differently.

The fact that both books had been somewhat based on true events just makes everything more real.
I've always struggled to understand the subject handled in this book, but after reading this I somehow understand more of the struggles these people have to deal with.

I'm intrigued to read / listen to the next one.

It was interesting. I can‘t say this heavy topic was all so heavy. As someone who‘s been through mental any physical abuse, I feel like this was written by someone who doesn‘t know what they‘re talking about. I really enjoyed the back story of lily and atlas. The whole relationship with Ryle was not believable. There was no falling in love writing it just happened. It was still interesting though.

Read this one because of all the hype around it. To be honest, if I didn‘t like the actress Blake Lively, I might not have picked it up at all. Descent relationship story throughout. Definitely recommend you read the epilogue because it explains what I initially judged as weak character development.

I‘m struggling on how I feel about this book. I enjoyed the first bit, but then I felt it was a bit rushed or cliche (I.e., becoming besties with someone you‘ve met 13.5 seconds ago which happens to be the sibling of your new love). Nevertheless, the last chapters focused on a heavy topic & thought it was handled ok. I give her credit for sharing this story & I will read the follow up story. I just need less cliche in betweens.

I'm too old for these kinds of books. The insta love of people in their early twenties is a total eye roll at this point.

I couldn't get behind the characters, the plot or most importantly the domestic violence which in real life I'm an advocate for.

There's better books out there showcasing these tropes in my opinion however if a book gets people talking about serious issues then high five for that.

Octoberwoman I joined a book group on Facebook and I swear it should be called the Colleen Hoover fan page. I‘ve only read one of her books but I‘m so sick of all the fangirling I‘ll probably never read her again. 3mo

Domestic violence in the middle of what could otherwise be a romantic comedy does not diminish the message in my opinion. As in real life, when expectations are turned upside down it can make you question if something really just happened. I worried about the protagonist and felt invested in her outcome. I think this is an important topic for women to consider and discuss. I recommend reading the post script by Hoover after finishing the book.

Evening reading at the beach 🏖️ is the best.I love Ms. Hoover‘s writing and this one is hitting me in the heart. You are following Lily and how she and her mom survived the abuse from her father and how she befriended a homeless young boy named Atlas who was her first love and saving grace. They lost contact and then they find each other again when they are with different people. It‘s a very emotional story and I can‘t wait until it hits theaters!

I can‘t. I feel sickened. Bailed at 3/4 of the way through. Lots of triggers here, and shameless manipulation of them for maximum discomfort. Somehow I thought this was going to be a gripping drama, but it‘s a semi raunchy romance with violence against women. Nope. Are all of her books like this?

Writeme After sleeping on it, I think the issue is gaslighting. I‘m generally fine with reading stories about characters who are gaslit, but so not okay when the author is gaslighting the reader. It‘s unfair and slimy. 9mo

In my opinion, this was definitely worth the hype. I know it was a little bit predictable at certain points, but I still loved it. The characters were just so well portrayed. I felt so many emotions when I was reading this book and I really do think it will be one that I think about for years after I read it. I think the author unpacked a lot in this book in a very graceful way while also writing the story beautifully.

What an emotional toll this takes on your heart. I fell in deep love with all of the characters. I needed to know their stories, how they connected and what shattered them personally. What a bravely bold and beautiful book with some of her natural 🌶️, of course. Raw and real, this book definitely doesn‘t let go of your heart.

I just finished sobbing my way through this book, but I‘m not even sure where to begin. It is tender, heart-wrenching, filled with hope, laughter, and sadness. I don‘t want to give any spoilers, I highly recommend reading the personal note from the author afterward. Highly recommend. It does contain depictions of domestic violence and sympathy for the abuser. The story was engaging with well-developed and nuanced characters.

I was not prepared for the emotional roller coaster Colleen Hoover took me on with this book. I found myself getting angry when Lily was hurt. I found myself feeling happy when Lily and Ryle were doing good. I also found myself feeling proud for breaking the cycle when Lily asked Ryle for a divorce. Such a good read! 5 out of 5! #52bookclub24 (prompt 25: an author everyone has read)

TheAromaofBooks An interesting article. I haven't actually read any Colleen Hoover, despite being a romance reader, because her books always sound a little too depressing for my romance fare haha Have you read any of her books? 1y
Leftcoastzen @TheAromaofBooks I read the tagged book.I was troubled a bit about what is covered in the article, that it somewhat romanticizes abuse.I also thought the writing wasn‘t that good and the names were ridiculous. I read less romance than about anyone so I really don‘t know what to compare it to. 1y
TheAromaofBooks I've heard from others that they have an issue with the way she sometimes seems to “normalize“ abuse, as though it is something that should be expected in a relationship. I've often thought it would be nice if books came with a rating/content info for those interested, like they do with movies. 1y
Leftcoastzen @TheAromaofBooks I appreciate people on here on Litsy mentioning Trigger Warnings. Everyone has things that bother them , doesn‘t mean it shouldn‘t be written about. I am not a person who has been in an abusive or suffered domestic violence. I consider myself fortunate. I have known women who had to quit their jobs ,abandon their phones, apartments, & run for their lives from an abusive person , don‘t like to see that normalized I guess . 1y
TheAromaofBooks I think that is part of the issue to me. It's not a situation I've ever been in, thankfully. But normalizing it also seems to trivialize it. If it's just “one of those things that happens to most people“ will fewer people try to escape from bad situations? It seems important to write stories of hope rather than resignation, if that makes sense. 1y
