Not in Love
Not in Love | Ali Hazelwood
3 posts | 2 read | 7 to read
A forbidden, secret affair proves that all's fair in love and science--from New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood. Rue Siebert might not have it all, but she has enough a few friends she can always count on, the financial stability she yearned for as a kid, and a successful career as a biotech engineer at Kline, one of the most promising start-ups in the field of food science. Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down. Eli Killgore and his business partners want Kline, period. Eli has his own reasons for pushing this deal through--and he's a man who gets what he wants. With one burning exception: Rue. The woman he can't stop thinking about. The woman who's off-limits to him. Torn between loyalty and an undeniable attraction, Rue and Eli throw caution out the lab and the boardroom windows. Their affair is secret, no-strings-attached, and has a built-in deadline: the day one of their companies will prevail. But the heart is risky business--one that plays for keeps.

Pickpick

Ali Hazelwood writes my favorite rom-coms. I count on her for making me giggle and kick my lil feet while two people fall for each other despite each other. I‘m not the first to say her novels tend to be similar, but I‘d argue this one departs in major ways, particularly tone. While I enjoyed the science-set plot as always, and I think this will appeal to Emily Henry girlies, its angst made me miss the FUN I always have while reading Hazelwood.

Pickpick

Look, is every Ali Hazelwood romance *kind of* the same? Yes. Do I enjoy them regardless as a fun little treat? Also yes! Sometimes it's nice to know exactly what you're getting, and in Not in Love we got another closed off woman in science who is oblivious to the feelings of the man she's made fall head over heels for her. And I loved every second of it.

It‘s been a few days now but this was my #bookmail recently. For mostly nonsensical reasons I splurged on Hazelwood‘s entire oeuvre, including preordering the tagged. I used my birthday gift card from my MIL, so it doesn‘t count as buying myself presents right before Christmas, and then when I got sick it felt like an entirely reasonable indulgence. Not that I‘m reading them yet, of course. Instead, I‘m using my scattered focus to watch 👇🏻

ravenlee …various old favorite movies and shows, and then pick away at Solnit‘s A Paradise Built in Hell and the audio of American Fascists. I finished Greenglass House and it was just what I needed, then finished Millay‘s poetry too. I‘m hoping to reengage with the living a little this evening as I‘m on the mend, but we‘ll see. I miss hugs. 4mo
ravenlee Oh, and I read The Yellow Wallpaper, which was somewhat ill-considered while stuck in recuperative isolation. 😆 4mo
LiteraryinLawrence I hope you get hugs soon! And yeah, Yellow Wallpaper messes with your head even on a good day! Yikes! 😋 4mo
