Twist of Fate (Reissue) | Jayne Ann Krentz
post image
Mehso-so

Originally published in #1986 , this one by Krentz does not quite stand the test of time for me. The possessive attitude of Gideon, the male lead, was a bit grating. Romance aside, I liked the premise of the story - anthropological findings and danger at every turn. Themes of list and greed too. #192025 #1986 #52bookclub23 #featuringoneofthesevendeadlysins

Cinfhen Some books really do feel dated! Glad you were able to check off a prompt 💕 2y

Pickpick

I LOVED this dip back into Kate‘s world. This novella takes place several years after Magic Triumphs and Iron and Magic, but a few years before Blood Heir. Kate, Curran, and Conlan are settling into Wilmington and trying to lead a quiet life, but we all know that‘s not going to work. The only thing I disliked (ok, I wanted much much more) was that the pages of my copy were stuck together in several places and had to be torn apart. Frustrating.

Pickpick

Harriet is a young woman with a small fortune. A mental disability makes her an easy target for the handsome and unscrupulous Lewis Oman. After winning Harriet's love, Lewis, along with his brother and mistress, sets in motion a cruel plan to get his hands on her money.

A very good, shocking story, not in the least because it is based on a true one from 1877

JenniferP I‘ve read all my Persephones! Maybe I‘ll put some more on my birthday wish list - this sounds great! 2y
AshleyHoss820 Sounds good!! Love the picture, as usual! ☺️ 2y
BarbaraBB @LeahBergen I‘d have liked to read this with you but my challenges decided otherwise 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ 2y
BarbaraBB @JenniferP they are always such a comfort to read. Every couple of years I allow myself to buy six of them, of which Persephone sends me one a month: it feels like a gift when another arrives! 2y
Cinfhen This does sound interesting!!! Perfect for GREED 😊Also love the photo 😘 2y
squirrelbrain This sounds so good! 2y
Cathythoughts Sounds like another good one. Stacked. 2y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Greed indeed! 2y
JenniferP @BarbaraBB I did this a few years back, but I believe they stopped this service to the U.S. Sad! 2y
PuddleJumper Brilliant! 2y
BkClubCare Love Persephone Books 2y
thewallflower0707 Love Persephone Books, I visited their bookstore in 2019, before they had to move. Did you get the chance to read A Town Called Solace yet? 2y
BarbaraBB @thewallflower0707 That is so cool, that you‘ve been there. I‘d love to go to Bath one day to visit their new shop. I haven‘t read your book yet, but I will soon! I will keep you posted! Am looking forward to it! 2y
BarbaraBB @JenniferP That is sad indeed. It is hard to Netherlands too these days, thanks to Brexit. 2y
thewallflower0707 @BarbaraBB that‘s great! It was nicely decorated too, and right around the corner from Gay‘s the Word, a beautiful LGBTQ bookstore with lots of history. Shame they had to move. 2y
BarbaraBB @thewallflower0707 Absolutely. That sounds great. But I want to visit Bath one day anyhow, so much history there! 2y

Engaging and compelling. We know Roddy Macrae has killed 3 people but we need to know why??? Set in the Scottish Highlands in the 1860‘s evocative and absorbing. Much bleaker than I expected but such was life then. Recommended for fans of historical fiction. jenniferw88 Glad you enjoyed it! The book I recommended for classic is probably a mix of this one, Dracula and Frankenstein, so will either be a hit or a miss for you. X 5y
Cinfhen Thanks @jenniferw88 ♥️ 5y
AmyG Ooooo I can read this for #tartannoir. Thanks! (edited) 5y

Marni Now I know what I‘m reading for #tartannoir! I already own this book, and I‘m trying to shop my unread owned books this year. Perfect, thank you! 5y
Cinfhen I‘m on a roll @BarbaraTheBibliophage 👑 5y
Cinfhen My pleasure @Marni @AmyG I‘m trying to use books I own too!! Or books I can borrow 😁 5y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Loved this book so much that I insisted on a detour to Applecross when we were driving through Scotland a couple summers ago. Didn‘t realize it was through a scary, winding, barely-one-lane dirt road straight up a mountain and took 2 hours. 😬 Husband hadn‘t read the book yet and was like, “WHY are we doing this?!” 5y
Cathythoughts 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻You are seriously on a roll ! Very good book 👍🏻 5y
Cinfhen Hahaha!! That‘s hilarious @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I could see my hubby being less than pleased by that kind of detour 5y
Cinfhen It was very good @Cathythoughts but really sad 😢 and so bleak 5y
Kalalalatja Well, you have me convinced! #Stacked 5y
Cinfhen It‘s character driven NOT plot driven at all @Kalalalatja but I think you‘d like it for the historical elements. 5y
andrew61 I read it when it was shortlisted for the booker and really enjoyed the story both the crime and the trial. I would really like to reread it now you have reminded me. 5y
Cinfhen I‘d think this book would work well as a reread/ probably lots of little references that one may have missed on first read @andrew61 5y
BarbaraBB I really liked this one too and it fits a lot of prompts again! 5y
Mdargusch I really liked this one but it was definitely dark. 5y
Cinfhen I liked it too @Mdargusch reminded me of Burial Rites 5y
