Book 28- 2021 Thank you so much to @rockpools for suggesting this book. It was absolutely fantastic. Magical, mysterious, compelling, beautiful... I could go on. I‘m afraid to say too much as this one definitely has to be discovered for itself. I would love to know more about Clarke‘s process in imagining and writing this novel. It is so masterfully done. And to top it off it fulfills my #booked2021 #musicalinstrumentonthecover prompt 😁

Libby1 This will likely end up as my top book of the year. 2y
rockpools I‘m so glad you loved it 🥰- I think this‘ll be one of my top reads of the year. 2y

This was such a great one and I would have never found it if not for #booked2021. I was on the search for #musicalinstrumentonthecover and stumbled across this gem. I‘m seeing the Foo Fighters in concert in a few weeks, so this was perfect. She not only tells her stories but also interviews other rockstar moms. A very interesting perspective!

Cinfhen This sounds like a really awesome audio 🤘🎸❣️#stacked And SO COOL you get to see a concert soon!!!! Ive missed live music events so much due to Covid 3y
alisiakae This sounds good! And it would also work for the mustache prompt, which I still have lingering! 3y

I saw folks mentioning early on it's best to go into this without knowing about and I whole-heartedly agree. I think I read two or three sentences of the blurb and just said YES! This is a strange little book that makes you think about the possibilities of who, what, where, when, why, and how. I liked Piranesi. There was a child-like quality to him but also a scholarly aspect to his personality. Enjoyable, though it would be hard for me to ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick recommend to the casual readers in my real-life circle. However, I say to you, my little book-world friends, give it a try! It's unique and thoughtful.
#Booked21 #MusicalInstrumentOnTheCover because all the music-related books I've picked so far seemingly don't feature instruments of any kind. @Cinfhen @4thHouseOnTheLeft @BarbaraTheBibliophage #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks #Pop21 #LockedRoomMystery #52Books #SelfishCharacter

In Dead Ringer, temporary cello player Jeremy is killed in the church where the orchestra is rehearsing, and violinist Midori Bishop starts investigating when the maestro becomes a suspect. She finds out too much about her fellow musicians and the church staff—quickly getting herself into danger.

I‘m interested to read the next in the series. Good for fans of Murder in G Minor as music plays a big role in the story 🎶

I thought this book was good, but not as good as I wanted or thought it would be...honestly, it was a bit of a slog for awhile. That said, it's still a pick for me. Plus, it's my #bookspin read for the month AND knocks off a #booked2021 prompt: #musicalinstrumentonthecover

@TheAromaofBooks @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft

Cinfhen Yeah, it did draggggg in parts. I had similar feelings about this book 3y

This was fun but not great. A few editing issues (what characters knew when was contradicted) took me out of the story. Didn't love enough to read more in this series. #AwesomeApril @Andrew65 - 6 hours

The #musicalinstrumentonthecover prompt for #booked2021 was proving harder to find on my bookshelves than I anticipated. Why do all of the books I own have either or swords or ships? So many swords. So many ships. I found sheet music, but no instruments. I literally went book by book through the shelves in one room. Started in another. Then...SUCCESS! And an excuse to reread my all time favorite Anne Rice novel. 🖤

Cinfhen Woohoo!!! I had a hard time too..... but I didn‘t have lots of swords ⚔️ or ships 🚢 🛳 3y
DGRachel @Cinfhen I also found a disturbing number of axes 🪓 on covers. 🤣 3y
Cinfhen Ha!!!! Prompt ideas for #Booked2022 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Great pick for a reread. Rice creates so many layers, which makes them a natural to reread. 🎻 And yes, I‘ve got two prompt ideas from this conversation! 3y

Gorgeous. Atmospheric, weird, clever, touching - did I say weird? SUCH a strong sense of place. I loved it! I‘m really sad to be leaving it behind.

Thanks for putting it on my radar @julesG - I don‘t think it‘s something I‘d have picked up on my own. And thanks for making me actually read it, #buddyread folks - the ooh, urr... and wtf?? comments made me actually pick it up. Looking forward to our conversation now 😊.

rockpools Bizarrely, this is the second buddy read I‘ve finished this year - 2020 broke me good and proper!! First book finished for #slumpathon, free space for #bookspinbingo, and I‘m hoping someone with a print copy can confirm, but I‘m pretty sure the faun‘s playing a #musicalinstrumentonthecover #booked2021. I‘m also going to use this for #constellation #fourfoursin21 as Piranesi spends a lot of time mapping the stars. 3y
Lauredhel @rockpools this has been on my tbr since it came out... thanks for the reminder! 3y

julesG @Lauredhel Read it! It's very good. @scripturient just posted her review on her blog. Just in case you need further encouragement. And no, I still don't get any commission. 😉 3y
julesG Very glad you liked it Rachel. And 🎉💪 for finishing another #buddyread. 3y
rockpools @Lauredhel It‘s difficult to gush about without actually saying anything about it! But yes, do give it a go. 3y
rockpools @julesG You‘re really going to have to sort out the commission thing! 3y
TrishB Woohoo 🙌 another successful buddy read! 3y
Caroline2 I just finished too...I‘m still digesting tho! I liked it but not sure I loved it? I don‘t think I was in the right mood for all it‘s quirky weirdness. 🤔 3y
rockpools @TrishB 🎉🎉🎉 3y
rockpools @Caroline2 I‘m glad you liked it - but that‘s absolutely fair enough. It is seriously weird! 3y
squirrelbrain Another buddy read ticked off the list - are you sure you‘re feeling OK?! 🤣 Ooh and thanks for pointing out the musical instrument on the cover - I can tick that one off #booked2020 now! 😘 3y
Oryx It was my second successful buddy read ever too I think 😄. Glad you enjoyed, it was a brilliant world to spend time in. 3y
rockpools @squirrelbrain It is something musical, isn‘t it? And no, obviously brain-scrambled! It‘ll be fun if it lasts though😁 - I think I‘ve bust through the worst of my chunksterphobia as well. Yay! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Great progress!! 3y
squirrelbrain Yes,it‘s some kind of pan-pipey-bugley thing! I‘m calling it that anyway... 3y
rockpools @Oryx Ha! That‘s good to know - I usually bail or grind to a staggering halt with buddy reads. But it was such a fab choice of book. I may be about to start a mini tides-and-architecture obsession! 3y
BarbaraBB That sense of place will stay with me for some time to come. So good 🤍 3y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m glad to hear all the positive reviews. I‘ve been wondering if I‘d like this one! 3y
rockpools @BarbaraBB Exactly! I kind of wonder if there‘s a Raphael story on the cards, so we can spend more time there. 3y
rockpools @BarbaraTheBibliophage I think it‘s worth giving it a go, even if it‘s not your usual thing. Lots to think about, even if you don‘t‘like‘ it. 3y
Ruthiella I totally want more stories from this world! Are there maybe doorways leadings to other worlds? 🤨 3y
rockpools @Ruthiella Ooh, that‘s an idea! I‘d really like to know about the statues too - who/what/how??? Is P going to come across all of them, back in the other place? 3y

“This is the story of a man in a green shirt, playing a piano amongst the rubble. The photo can never tell you about what came before and what came after.”
This.Book. 💔
I don‘t have enough adequate words. Simply inspiring.
“I am a pianist, not a political activist. My revolution is music.” 👇🏽#HooplaAudio

Megabooks You are knocking through these challenges girl! I thought it was good that I had six booked prompts done, but you are slaying these!! 3y

Hooked_on_books This sounds like echoes of the Cellist of Sarajevo, which I thought was wonderful. 3y
Cinfhen Yes!!!!!! @Hooked_on_books I meant to include that reference in my review and forgot. Both books are wonderful and heartfelt. What gets to me, is the events in this book are less than 10 years ago😢 (edited) 3y
Hooked_on_books It‘s extraordinary and awful the events of our lifetimes. What inflicted horror we humans seem to like to prove over and over on one another. 😔 3y
Librarybelle I will definitely have to read this soon! 3y
TrishB I‘m assuming this is the same book? Great review ♥️ 3y
Cinfhen Oh wow!! Yesssssss @TrishB I guess UK version has a different title 3y
TrishB Not sure why- I‘m pretty sure people would recognise Syria more than Yarmouk. Kindle decent price 👍🏻 3y
Cinfhen I have a hunch the author, Aeham Ahmad probably wanted Yarmouk in the title as he doesn‘t really like giving the country of Syria any kind of attention / recognition @TrishB 3y
Kalalalatja I‘ll have to try and find the audio, your review has convinced me! 3y
Cinfhen I hope you find the audio @Kalalalatja it‘s really good and it knocks out a bunch of challenge prompts 😊😆 3y
TrishB Ah that makes sense. 3y

Technology continues to blow me away ~ as I‘m listening to Aeham Ahmad recount his harrowing plight living in the Yarmouk Refugee Camp, I‘m able to view via YouTube his performances. For 4 years he plays piano in defiance. This book is beautiful and heartbreaking. I‘m so happy I found this memoir because of Litsy reading challenges. If you‘re interested go on YouTube. I won‘t watch ahead as I prefer to hear the story from Aeham. 👇🏼

Librarybelle I‘m glad you‘re really connecting with this! It sounds so beautiful and haunting. 3y
