During early Puritan America until the end of the 18th century, “ bundling”, a custom in which couples were “ bundled” separately in cloths & permitted to spend nights together in bed, parental approval was common. It was thought that this practice would create lasting relationships & ultimately marriage.
I am having so@much fun learning about the sexual mores & practices in 17th, 18th & 19th centuries. #NFNovember #TodayILearned #NFN

Today I learned these yew trees may have inspired Tolkien‘s door into Moria. It‘s a perfect Tree A Day and Tolkien crossover.

Pickpick

This is a light pick for me. I enjoyed it but didn‘t love it. I appreciated the early history of how bookstores developed in the U.S. and found the stories of well-known independent bookstores interesting. However, this is an incredibly broad topic, and hearing about a few specific bookstores I know or have visited just made me want to learn of more variety for my list.

TimEW I enjoyed this book, most likely because I really love history. If you you would like to read more personal perspectives from booksellers and librarians, check out James Patterson‘s “The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians”. This is a collection of true stories from people whose careers are centered around their love of books. I highly recommend it. 3w
Daisey @TimEW I did enjoy this one but not as much as I expected. Your recommendation does sound interesting; I‘ll add it to the never ending list! 3w

Pickpick

I‘ve read a few books about Tolkien, Lewis, and the Inklings, and I still thoroughly enjoyed the style and perspective of this book. It‘s not strictly a graphic novel biography as it alternates full pages of text with panels and also includes a few narrative fantasy elements, but it is full of factual information about both writers and their friendship. The art was also great.

Pronto library book (tagged):I have to read it in a week; cannot renew. So obviously that book comes first this week. A big help: I thought I was behind on Gilot‘s book, but I was actually ahead so that section is finished for next Sunday. 😃📚
