Cycle of the Werewolf | Stephen King
post image

I just recently decided that I really want to own and read all of Stephen King's books (and books of short stories)! I just recently purchased this one - it's a much older book of his from early in his career - and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm actually really enjoying it so far! Who else has read this one? 🐾

Suet624 Not I! 1w
Ruthiella Have you read this yet? @BarkingMadRead 1w
BarkingMadRead I‘m not sure I have! I‘ve seen the movie though. I own the book 🙈 but goodreads says I haven‘t read it. I better fix that soon, I thought I‘d read them all 1w

Ruthiella @BarkingMadRead I thought you had read ‘em all too! 😂 Howsa bout you @5feet.of.fury ? 1w
Branwen @Suet624 @Ruthiella @BarkingMadRead @5feet.of.fury This one really flew under my radar! I didn't even know about it until very recently! According to my research, it does not appear in any of his other books of short stories/novellas. It's very short, less than 200 pages, but the illustrations are absolutely fantastic! Definitely worth checking out! 1w
5feet.of.fury Never even heard of it! @Ruthiella @Branwen 1w
TieDyeDude This was a fun book. Most of the characters didn't last long enough to leave an impact, but the illustrations were cool. 1w
BarkingMadRead The #losersclub will be reading this in January, so I guess i will wait until then 🤣 if you decide you want to read more King, we are reading them in order. This month is Cujo 1w
Branwen @TieDyeDude Agreed! I really loved the illustrations! 5d
Branwen @BarkingMadRead Oh! That's really cool! Do you guys usually read one a month? 5d
BarkingMadRead Yes, we read The Gunslinger for September. We read on our own and discuss at the end of the month 5d

Pickpick

The second murder mystery solved by sheep is as good as the first one. Definitely an unconventional idea and for sure a funny one. It seems to me that the abrupt solution of the first case was used on purpose because in Big Bad Wool it just happens the same - I had to turn back a page and reread it otherwise it would have slipped my attention.

LittlebearReads I read this, then gave it to my mom who almost immediately wanted to know which sheep I most closely identified with 😂 2mo
MariaW @LittlebearReads And who are you? I think I am identifying with Sir Richfield - talking about my favourite topics to trees. 🤣 1mo
LittlebearReads @MariaW I think I said Mopple, because he is the memory sheep and I have a rather sticky brain 😂 1mo

#HaikuADay #HaikuHive

Today‘s haiku was inspired by seeing the almost full moon as I was driving to the airport at 4:30 AM. There were clouds but the July Buck Moon shown through. (This is not my photo—freeway driving isn‘t great for picture taking.)

I‘m posting one book a day from my massive collection. No description, no reason for why I want to read it.

#TopReads2025 for May goes to 2 favorite books that I couldn‘t decide which one I loved more, so they both are picked! “Big Bad Wool” by Leonie Swann and “Dungeon Crawler Carl” by Matt Dinniman are quite possibly as opposite as you can get but were both fun! One has talking sheep who solve a murder, the other has a talking cat surviving a Hunger Games-esque quest with her boxer wearing bodyguard. I‘d highly recommend both!! 🐑🔎🐈👑

Cry Wolf | Patricia Briggs

Pickpick

Patricia Briggs has a really compelling way of telling a story that I really appreciate — and this was no exception. An extension of the Mercy Thompson universe, this story hits the ground running and never really slows down. Werewolf politics, ancient history, dark witches, mysterious murders — it‘s all a rollercoaster that comes to a relatively satisfying conclusion. Will definitely read more in this series.

CatLass007 I love Patricia Briggs! I particularly love The World of Mercy Thompson. I keep forgetting that Adam is a blonde, for some reason. I just picture him with black hair. I started a reread of Mercy Thompson‘s world but got stalled because there are so many new books I want to read. (edited) 3mo
BookBr @CatLass007 Isn‘t she a great author?! The Alpha and Omega series seems like it will be not quite as excellent — Mercy is such a strong character, she‘s hard to match — but definitely worth a read! 3mo
CatLass007 I think the Alpha and Omega series gets better. I found a website that lists books in order. And there is a different website for the world of Mercy Thompson, that lists the mercy Thompson series, the Alpha and Omega series, and all the short stories and novellas in chronological order. I‘m going by that list right now as I do my rereading. So much information in each series is complementary to the other. 3mo
