Freedom was the name for the dizzying power that lasted through her library expeditions. No pleasantries ever needing to be exchanged with the librarian on duty. Even the round clock at high noon on the wood-panelled wall had no claim on her. From the first second she entered the building she was in other times, other dimensions. She was other Naoises.

Just got home from my youngest son‘s Reg‘l Ctr annual appt. The SW usually comes to us, but I thought it would be easier to go there. When we got home, he did not know where we were. Because it was not a normal place he goes, in that 2 hours (incl commute) he had become so disoriented I had to take his hand to lead him. It reminds me that my kids are the people this admin hates. I never have the privilege to be non-political.

ncsufoxes 💓 , same here. I have 3 neurodiverse kids, 1 of which is Autistic. He‘s a smart kid but I don‘t think he‘ll ever be independent. I have to be political because they have made my kids lives political. When their ability to access services & programs is dependent upon funding or some politician having an ounce of understanding of what my life is like or the hoops that parents have to jump through, you have to be political. It‘s f-n exhausting 2mo

IriDas @lil1inblue Thank you. 2mo
IriDas @Leftcoastzen It is. And so unnecessary. 2mo
IriDas @ncsufoxes I have two autistic and one other with disabilities. It really is exhausting, isn‘t it? Between the politics and how evil the insurance companies are, I really have nothing left most days. 2mo
IriDas @willaful That‘s scary. It‘s already hard to get services. I used to think we‘d be safe in California, but CHLA is cowing to the admin over trans issues, what will they do now? Just dump all their Medicaid patients? And Newsom is recommending more cuts to disability services. Gotta keep the rich happy. (edited) 2mo
IriDas @CBee Thanks. It‘s all more than a bit too much today. Also, I think I accidentally deleted your comment. I was trying to edit mine and now yours is gone. :( do you mind reposting it? 2mo
CBee @IriDas sure! I was just offering solidarity as I also have an autistic child (11). Mentioned if you, @ncsufoxes and @willaful ever wanted to email about experiences I‘d be open and available ♥️ 2mo
IriDas @CBee that would be very nice. I do not have really any support, though I do have a few friends at work now who kind of get it. But it‘s not the same as people who know the long haul we are all in for. 2mo

Bookwomble ❤️♾️❤️ I'm AuDHD - Neurodivergent solidarity from Britain! ✊🏻 We get some of the same oppressive rhetoric and attacks on funding here, too. I'm lucky enough that I work in a job where I can offer some support to affected people. Sending you and your family virtual good vibes 💟 2mo

I have had a rough time lately, mentally. I'm stressing about an upcoming certification exam. I've been sick for two weeks now with some respiratory virus. I've been getting garbage sleep. I've had to listen to deplorable people use their platform to disparage transgender, asexuals, anti-war protesters, immigrants, AmeriCorps, and people with autism. And I've spent way too much time on Facebook seeing people (or bots, who the f knows) celebrate.

TieDyeDude It is a dark pit I can usually avoid, but lack of health and sleep weakened my defenses. My symptoms are easing, and my exam is tomorrow, so I'm hoping for a better week. Our book club is also tomorrow. We have vacation in June to look forward to. I'm also absorbing all the DC movie news and Star Wars Celebration announcements. To the future! 5mo
TieDyeDude Lastly, fuck that sentient tanning hide and his lies.

This is a very accessible book for people learning about ADHD and autism. It's casual, there's a lot of Internet speak, anecdotes, and it's very supportive.

It's a validating read if you are struggling with a diagnosis or starting to see you might be neurodivergent.

That's the extent of it. There's nothing new, or actionable. It was affirming.

12 years ago today I became a Mummy. My beautiful boy has complex special needs and my world has become a whole lot smaller over the last decade. It‘s one of the reasons books are so important to me, they aren‘t just my escape from everyday life, they are my chance to go other places and have other adventures. Books keep me sane!

TheKidUpstairs What a beautiful photo! Hopefully, Litsy is a safe space for you to have a moment for you in your days. Glad that you're here. 8mo

Temple Grandin | Ruby Cardona

This book does a great job with its illustrations. It provides an easy journey for children to learn about Temple's life.
The way that the text is spread out makes it easy for children to read. This would be great for any grade level as a read aloud. This would be a great book to do a flip chart activity with.
