This story was more complex than I expected. At first I was creeped out by the family. There's Merricat, who's is 18 but acts like she's maybe 12. There's Uncle Julian droning on about his damn papers and obsessing on the infamous familial incident. However, events occur that make me empathize with the family and truly appreciate the story. I think this story has a lot of hints and layers and deserves a reread at some point.

Loved it! I‘m a huge TVD fan and I loved all the behind the scenes info given by the cast, crew, and writers of the show. Highly recommend to all fellow fans!

I was hoping to like this more but it was really hard to get into. I was interested to find out what happened to Barbara but I was not a big fan how the story jumped between time lines. It almost felt like it was trying to decide which storyline to focus on: Barbara's disappearance or Bear's. I felt that these two plots could have been broken into two different books.

This is a dark and intense collection of short stories. Some of them involve literal monsters, but in many of the stories, the humans are the monsters or at least the ones commiting monstrous acts. Ballingrud's characters are complex with many of them dealing with loss and having screwed up backgrounds. Favorites included The Good Husband, Sunbleached, Monsters of Heaven, and North American Lake Monsters.

Let‘s try this again…I started this one in May and had to put it down. With end of school and graduation for my oldest, I didn‘t have the headspace for it. But, I love this author, so here we go again! It‘s my May #doublespin pick.

Feeling nostalgic, I recently picked up the first 3 books in this series which I enjoyed as a child. It feels very dated in its portrayal of women's roles and how the airline industry is run (in-flight meals included an after-dinner cigarette). Still, I found this book thoroughly charming and fun to read.
