I am having difficulty in rating this book. It is a frank look at the unexamined history of those who collaborated with the Nazis in France and their lives, the secrets they carried and the impact of that history on their family. My problem stems from the fact that this is supposedly a fictional novel based on the author‘s family and at times it read more like non-fiction than fiction. It is almost as though the author couldn‘t commit. ⬇️

Gleefulreader The topic is important and there are many observations in this book about the trauma of being raised in a home where the values and beliefs of Nazi Germany are maintained, but hidden behind a facade of funhouse mirrors. I just so wish that perhaps the author just wrote a true non-fiction book of her family rather than a book in where, like life with her family, you aren‘t sure where truth begins and ends. 4w

Cady runs a river taxi. She ferries passengers through a 60 mile ghost dragon on the Nysis. She starts her day today by picking up a very sick young girl who‘s in danger & an AI. Right up my alley.

The Nysis is treacherous, there‘s challenging ports & horrors that lurk beneath the surface.

Cady lost her ability not to age so this could be her last journey.

peaKnit @dabbe I‘ve been doing more walking too, my body has not been cooperating with running. I miss it but also just glad to move:) 1y

dabbe @peaknit Moving is the key! I finally bought just a walking pad so that I can walk while reading on the Kindle. Sitting on my butt reading is WONDERFUL, but I need to move more! Luckily, I haven't fallen. Yet. 🤩 1y

peaKnit @dabbe funny you mention falling, I sprained my ankle two months ago falling off the road lol. So maybe I should try a treadmill lol. 1y

dabbe @peaknit My right ankle loves to give out once in a while (I seriously sprained it years ago, and it's never been quite the same since). Did you get road rash from falling off the road? Ouch! 🧡🖤💜 1y
