Both @JazzFeathers and I have been busy and not great readalong hosts, so we‘re not starting any new Tolkien reads until next year. However, it‘s become a tradition for us to reread this book each December, and we‘d love to have you join us.
This is the same schedule as last year. I‘m tagging my entire Tolkien list today, but please comment if you would like to be on my tag list for this specific book.

I finished my audio reread a few days ago, but this morning I revisited the postscript to more closely consider Garth‘s discussion of the way writers wrote about WWI and specifically its influence on Tolkien‘s work.
This quote emphasizes one of the key aspects of Tolkien‘s work that I love. Many of his characters are simple people who just keep going and make a difference in their own small ways.

I found this quote from Verlyn Flieger enlightening as it makes such an interesting comparison between a return from war and a return from Faerie.

Fellow Tolkien Readers,
How are we doing on the readalong? I apologize that life has gotten in the way again, so I‘m a bit behind as well as not sharing much. I just finished chapter 6 today, ending with Tolkien going off to war and wondering if he will ever see Edith again.

I‘m so pleased with all the reading I did over the weekend for the #BirthdayBashReadathon! I finished three in-progress books (one of which was my October #BookSpin), kept up/caught up on #FellowshipofTolkien and #KindredSpiritsBuddyRead, and got about halfway through my #DoubleSpin! Happy Birthday, Sarah—and I hope you had a lovely weekend reading and celebrating! 🥳🎉📚🎂
Sorry guys, for not being present as l should, considering the readalong #FellowshipOfTolkien.
Thing is, I'm leaving my job and it is proving to be harder and more confusing than l anticipated.
But l hope that once this is all done and in the past, I'll be back (really back) here.
But you keep reading and sharing. I'll dive right back as soon as l can ☺️

Loved the narrative way in which Garth I troduces this group of young men.
I already care abou them.

All in all, l enjoyed Sir Gawain and these other poems.
I found Sir Gawain a little difficult to read, but l liked the story and l liked Sir Gawain as a character.
Pearl was my least favourite of the three, though l appreciated how it may have inspired places in Middle-earth.
And l really enjoyed Sir Orfeo, the lightest of the three in so many respects
Now, who has already started Tolkien and the Great War?
