When I go secondhand book shopping, I go hard and then go home 😊
Money goes to a really important cause and I get cheaper books. Win win really, except for finding space for them all on my triple stacked bookcases...
#secondhandbookhaul #lifelinebookfest

Joanne1 All for a good cause. But don‘t shelve the tagged book. Put that beside your bed and read immediately. It‘s stunning. 5y
Bindrosbookshelf @Joanne1 thanks for the tip! I‘m in a GR group reading through the Stella award winners so I‘m hoping it comes up sooner rather than later! 5y

Secondhand book haul from the #lifelinebookfest. They claim to be the largest secondhand book sale in the world! I spent hours browsing (there is 4km of tables) and didn't even make it to the $1 section 😳

Pruzy I'll keep in mind that over 20 books is an appropriate number to get at a used sale! 8y
LazyOwl Yay you got th the dark tower books 🤗 8y
See All 29 Comments
Marchpane @Pruzy everyone around me was filling suitcases and trolleys. I felt very restrained with my two little tote bags! 8y
Marchpane @LazyOwl I managed to find 1, 3 and 4. Looked everywhere for 2 but no luck! 8y
DebinHawaii Great haul! 📚📚👍 8y
Marchpane @BarbaraTheBibliophage Bookfest only comes twice a year - gotta stock up! 8y
bookdrunkard78 What a fantastic haul! 8y
LazyOwl Well that's annoying, hopefully you can get book 2 elsewhere 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Our giant local book sale is in May. I need to get reading and clear some shelf space so I can stock up again! 8y
LauraKath What a dream!!! 8y
emmanoble Wow lots of good ones! Awesome that you found an olive edition 😍 8y
merelybookish Wow! That sounds crazy/awesome 8y
Jhullie I didn't make it there this year 😔 I'm heading to Gympie for a couple of days. 8y
Marchpane @Jhullie it runs until the 26th! 8y
MemoirsForMe Woo hoo!! You scored! 8y
LeahBergen There are some GREAT ones in there. 👍🏼 8y
Marchpane @LeahBergen thanks! Some of them were "for two bucks, what the hell!" and others were "oh hey you, I've been looking for you ?". 8y
Michelle_mck Good haul lady! 😍 8y
MrsMalaprop Fantastic haul! I have Stoner on my TBR shelf. 8y

Lmstraubie Very nice! 📚📚📚 8y
DrexEdit Given your pictures of how many books were available, I'd say you are the very model of restrained book buying. 😁😁👍 8y
Marchpane @DrexEdit Thank you! I thought so 😊 Litsy is the one place where people understand this, haha 😂 8y

And finally, two I bought that I have already read. I'm still toying with the idea of giving the Oprah to my mum. #lifelinebookfest

The bookfest goes until the 26th so I will head back there again next week when there will be fewer people. 🙂

ReadingOver50 OMG Dogs and Goddesses, I read this years ago and loved it. I wanted to read more by this author. Thanks for reminding me 😄 8y
mischa @readingover50 Yay! I highly recommend Bet Me. It is my fave Crusie and I reread it at least once a year. 8y
ReadingOver50 Cool @mischa thanks for the recommendation 😀 8y

Those of you who also follow @Marchpane would be aware that today in Brisbane we had the first day of our bi-annual bookfest, run by a charity organisation called Lifeline.

I lasted two hours before my anxiety got the better of me, but I still made it home with a great selection for

britt_brooke Nice! 👏🏻 8y

The book sale I mentioned in my previous post puts out this handy map to help plan your strategic attack! The books in the High Quality section are usually around $3 or $4 and are often like new.

What would you make a beeline for?

#lifelinebookfest

Reecaspieces Paperback fiction 8y
silverlocusts Sci Fi first then HC fiction probably. Wandering is too dangerous. 8y
LeahBergen Rare and collectibles and then HC fiction!!!! 8y
See All 34 Comments
LeahBergen Oh! And high quality, too. 8y
TheLibrarian HC fiction then paperback fiction. 8y
Jillsandypants How fun! I'd hit paperback fiction and children's books. 8y
LiteraryinPA Paperback fiction for sure! 8y
DreesReads I wish I could read this, but I'd need a magnifying glass! I prefer paperbacks always: history, biography/memoir, literary fiction, nature. 8y
dariazeoli Paperback fiction & biography! 8y
Gayan Travel, Cooking, Paperback Fiction. 8y
Marchpane @silverlocusts good call, you have to get in first at the Sci Fi table! @gayan the Cooking section is always a treat, lots of bargains to be had there! 8y
Bookish.Heart *seethes with envy 😀 8y
CaitZ I'd head straight for History, then Travel and then I'd wander over to the paperbacks 8y
GlitteryOtters I'd head straight for the YA section on a heartbeat (but I am biased...Oz YA is amazing & I would want to stock up! 😂) 8y
Marchpane @GlitteryOtters That's strange, until you said that I hadn't noticed there's no YA in the $1 or $2.50 sections? I guess it's just mingled in with paperback fiction in those sections 😟 8y
GlitteryOtters Yeah, I noticed that but, hey, that would make it easier for me to zero in on one section to start with! 8y
rubyslippersreads Rare and collectible, then YA and children's. But seriously, I'd probably just run around like a chicken with its head cut off. 😄 8y
pppooraikul Head straight to YA, then search madly through paperback fiction for some good fantasy books. Then I'll walk around the fair until my legs can't bear it. 😍 8y
Marchpane @pppooraikul you could always stop at the cafe to recharge! It's a bit unfortunate there's no dedicated fantasy section. I'm hoping to find some good quality Dark Tower books (haven't read any of them yet). 8y
pppooraikul @Marchpane Yeah, fantasy section needs to be there some day! I already bought the Dark Tower series for the #darktowerreadalong but haven't started either. Are you in for the readalong? 😊 (edited) 8y
Gillyreads Going to the Brisbane lifeline bookfest as a kid is one of my formative memories. We were on holiday and my mum had to buy another suitcase. 8y
Marchpane @Gillyreads 😂😂😂 it's a unique experience for sure! 8y
Marchpane @pppooraikul I'm in if I can find them all for a reasonable price! Otherwise I might just get the first one and see how I go 😄 8y
pppooraikul @Marchpane Yay! 🙌🏼 8y
pppooraikul @Gillyreads That's quite a memorable event. 😂 8y
readinginthedark Always Rare & Collectible first, then usually Lit/Classics. From there, I roam through other sections until I'm forced to leave or run out of money. 😂We have a sale kind of like this! 8y
Gillyreads @Marchpane it sure is! @pppooraikul I was ten and bought 2 boxes of babysitter club books so it was sometime of a highlight 8y
RiotMom This is incredible! I wanna go! 8y
jpmcwisemorgan OMG!!! I'm going to sleep and dreaming about this sale. And when I wake up in the morning I'm going to firmly tell myself to dial back the book buying. Yup. That's what's going to happen. Book sales though... 8y
Dragon Booksales are so fun ! Enjoy! I've been known to bring a small suitcase with wheels to a booksale 😂 8y
mischa I can't wait until tomorrow! Bookfest is THE BEST!🎉🎉 8y
Marchpane @mischa lol, someone's excited! What's your game plan? 8y
mischa @Marchpane Hit the HQ section first. I usually head straight for the politics tables, and follow up with a wander through the sf/fantasy. If the crowds haven't kicked my anxiety into high gear by then, I will head to the $2.50 section. I will return next weekend and probably one more day after that (I have that week off). I didn't go to the one in June (long story) so I have to make up for lost time. 😉 8y
britt_brooke Ooh, fun! 8y

Starting tomorrow here in Brisbane is a huge secondhand book sale, and I do mean HUGE! This is a twice yearly event, it lasts for about two weeks each time, is staffed by volunteers and all proceeds go to charity.

I certainly don't need any more books, but it's still fun to go and rummage!

GlitteryOtters OMG, that looks both awesome and like the best kind of trouble, ever! 8y
MicheleinPhilly 😮 If it weren't for the insanely long flight, I'd be there in a heartbeat! 8y
Marchpane @DrexEdit @Pagesflutter @Silent_Whispers @Ruri_kaichou @GlitteryOtters it's truly insane. People bring suitcases, fill shopping trolleys 😄 8y
Marchpane @MicheleinPhilly think how much reading you could get done on the plane! But the excess baggage on the way home might be a killer 😂 8y
tracy.anne8 Oh my God that looks amazing! This is going on my bucket list! 8y
TheLudicReader Gah!!!!!💜💛💚 8y
DeborahSmall Holy fuck I'd bring a few extra suitcases. Heaven 💙💖❤️️ 8y
LeahBergen This is cruel. Just cruel. 😭 8y
Marchpane @LeahBergen there's an amazing rare and collectible section too 😉 8y
MicheleinPhilly I don't think I owned an e-reader when I went to Australia in 2009. And now I'm wondering how many books I packed. It was probably my entire carry on. 8y
CateKeesling That's so beautiful! 8y
DeeLew 😳🤓 8y
Marchpane @MicheleinPhilly I don't sleep well on planes, so a LOT of reading gets done. Thank goodness for e-readers! 8y
saresmoore WOW! 8y
MicheleinPhilly Me either. I did sleep for about 6 hours on that flight and thought it was a miracle. 8y

LiteraryinPA Wow!! 8y
Gina WOWIE ZOWIE! That would take me a month to get through. Very cool 8y
Marchpane @GoldenGirl it's a bit of a tradition to re-donate the books back to the same charity once you've read them. So they can sell them over and over again. It's a virtuous circle! 8y
MyNamesParadise Dang I'd go if I were in Australia!! 8y
Bostonmomx2 Holy CRAP!!! Im considering a trip half way around the world right now 😂😂 8y
