rwmg A Faberge egg sold for USD4,760 in 1949, so just how much money does Father Thames have? 13mo

BarkingMadRead @rwmg I was thinking the same thing! 13mo
Bookwormjillk Stirring the pot about the cassock again, and the drama about the flowers. Ugh! 13mo
peanutnine @Bookwormjillk the flower exchange was so awkward! Like, "here's a wet bouquet for you to take, don't worry, they're fresh" ? 13mo
Bookwormjillk @peanutnine I'm guessing it was hard to get fresh flowers in post war London, but why is everything such a struggle with these people? 13mo
rubyslippersreads The clergymen (and Bason) seem like a bunch of mean girls. 😆 13mo
Cuilin @rwmg right? Rodney certainly picked up on that. 13mo
Cuilin @Bookwormjillk the cassock drama, when will it end? Seriously petty but funny. (edited) 13mo
Cuilin The Cranford reference was apt. I liked how Rodney and Wilmet burst out laughing when they left. You get to see the relationship in a different light. 13mo
Deblovestoread @Cuilin I was glad for that, too. Their relationship seems pretty cold. @rubyslippersreads 💯 13mo
Crinoline_Laphroaig I'm caught up! Really enjoying. Appreciated the Excellent Women update. Piers guilt tripping. 🙄. Also I don't think Wilmet actually regrets not having children. She just doesn't have the guts to say it. So instead she says what's expected of her that she feels useless. 13mo
TheAromaofBooks I loved the reference to Bason acting “Cranfordian“ by watching out the door for their arrival 😂 And surely the good Father will have to find someplace else to live now that Mary's mother has passed on??? 13mo
julieclair @TheAromaofBooks Maybe he‘ll move in with Wilmet and Rodney and Sybil! 😳😂 13mo
rwmg Can we just take a moment to acknowledge that Wilmet is related to the Archdeacon? 13mo
TheBookHippie @rwmg My thoughts too!!! 13mo
Bklover @Cuilin I‘m caught up again- I too was happy to see Wilmer and Rodney laughing together. Their relationship isn‘t great, but it doesn‘t really seem like anyone‘s is! 13mo

Librarybelle Do you think Wilmet is clueless about these men? She‘s getting gifts and invites to lunch and flirtations from not her husband. I want to see how this evolves! And yes…I‘m pretty suspicious of Ransome and his actions with Mary… (edited) 14mo

BarkingMadRead @Librarybelle i don‘t think she‘s entirely clueless, but i also wonder if she realizes they don‘t just want to hang out with her, that they have an endgame 14mo
Bookwormjillk @Librarybelle clueless or just bored? 14mo
Librarybelle @BarkingMadRead @Bookwormjillk I think she may realize something is up with Piers. 14mo
Ruthiella @Librarybelle I think she is aware and enjoys the attention. But she‘s not necessarily looking for an affair, just flirting. 14mo
Aimeesue @Ruthiella I agree. She‘s bored and likes the attention but also wants to have plausible deniability. “Oh, heavens! I thought he just needed someone to have lunch with!” 14mo
rwmg I'm coming to think she is how Emma would have turned out if there had been no Mr Knightly 14mo
Librarybelle Haha, I guess I just need to read this a bit more carefully…I was not really picking up on any of that! @Ruthiella @Aimeesue @rubyslippersreads 😳 13mo
bthegood @Librarybelle @BarkingMadRead @Ruthiella @Aimeesue @rwmg @Bookwormjillk @rubyslippersreads - I agree with the idea that Wilmet knows what she is doing, she enjoys the attention. I do think her mother-in-law is also aware of what is going on! I had not thought Ransome was shady - until now!! 13mo
Bookwormjillk @rwmg so true! 13mo
AnneCecilie The introduction to my book actually compares this to Emma, and I do see some parallels @rwmg 13mo
julieclair @rwmg @AnneCecilie Interesting comparison. But I like Emma immeasurably more than I like Wilmet. 13mo

Bookwormjillk You‘re so right. He would have lost all that money. He‘s better off in the long run. 2y

Bklover Fred is a mess. I keep trying to like him for Mary‘s sake, but it‘s hard. And I agree- Fred would lose any money given to him. Always with good intentions. 🙄. Having said that, I do hope that he will get to work for Caleb. (edited) 2y
peanutnine @Bklover I agree, he's got great intentions but poor execution 🤦🏼‍♀️ hopefully Caleb can teach him how to earn an honest living 2y
CoffeeNBooks I hope Fred can work for Caleb and learn to become more responsible! 2y
JamieArc I was surprised that neither Caleb nor Farebrother themselves said it was good that Fred didn‘t get the money because he would have lost it. #sotrue 2y
