Bookwormjillk Politics blah when did this turn into Middlemarch? 3mo

dabbe And now we have a new guy coming to town. Who's this Mr. Donne person going to be? #newmanintown 😱
3mo
dabbe @Bookwormjillk 😂😂😂 I tried reading that last part in bed last night and just 💤 my way through it! 3mo
mcctrish In my usual #worstcasescenario vein I assume Donne knows Bellingshit and Ruth will be exposed. I feel bad for Jemima, one can only take so much control. Half of her troubles would be solved by just talking to people but these are the times we are in so no talking allowed. Bradshaw is such a pompous asshole - he‘d rather someone went to debtors prison than offer credit for a month so they could avoid it 3mo
TheBookHippie @Bookwormjillk MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY 😵‍💫🫣 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 3mo
mcctrish @TheBookHippie not to conflate modern politics with these olden days, but I feel like Bradshaw‘s descendants are trying to have a go right now 🤬 3mo
TheBookHippie @dabbe one paragraph and zzzzz finished just now 🫣 3mo
TheBookHippie @mcctrish WORD. 🎯 3mo
Clare-Dragonfly @Bookwormjillk I keep thinking of the hypocritical banker guy from Middlemarch. Bradshaw doesn‘t seem to be that much of a hypocrite but I‘m reserving judgment… 3mo
Aimeesue All that stuff in the chapter and I‘m just sad that Leonard didn‘t get to pick strawberries. 🍓 3mo
dabbe @mcctrish Oh, Mr. Bradshaw's allowed to talk. A. Lot. 🙄 He fits the category of someone with logorrhea, my #weirdwordwednesday word. 😂 3mo
mcctrish @dabbe Bradshaw has got entitled white male-itus but I love your #weirdwordwednesday word ( steam literally comes out my ears whenever I read him speaking, no wonder Jemima is losing her shit ) 3mo
dabbe @mcctrish Agree 💯. 3mo
willaful What a depressing chapter! Jemima is so young and stupid. On the other hand, maybe she could never be happy married to someone so closely associated with her father. 3mo
rubyslippersreads @mcctrish I bet you‘re right. Ruth‘s past has to be revealed somehow, so Mr. Bradshaw can shame her. 3mo
mcctrish @rubyslippersreads that‘s what he lives for 3mo
julieclair @dabbe Logorrhea! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That might be my new favorite word! 3mo
julieclair @mcctrish Oh my... Your prediction about Mr. Donne is probably right. 😢 Poor poor Ruth. 3mo
dabbe @julieclair I've had it in my head all day! 🤩😂🤗 3mo

Bookwormjillk You‘re so right. He would have lost all that money. He‘s better off in the long run. 2y

Bklover Fred is a mess. I keep trying to like him for Mary‘s sake, but it‘s hard. And I agree- Fred would lose any money given to him. Always with good intentions. 🙄. Having said that, I do hope that he will get to work for Caleb. (edited) 2y
peanutnine @Bklover I agree, he's got great intentions but poor execution 🤦🏼‍♀️ hopefully Caleb can teach him how to earn an honest living 2y
CoffeeNBooks I hope Fred can work for Caleb and learn to become more responsible! 2y
JamieArc I was surprised that neither Caleb nor Farebrother themselves said it was good that Fred didn‘t get the money because he would have lost it. #sotrue 2y

Redwritinghood I have it from NetGalley too, but haven‘t read it yet. I hope to get to it soon. 6y

Fellow Littens! I need your help. If you are located in the Cincinnati area, can you provide suggestions on locations to live? Thank you!!! #moving #cincinnati #ohio

Jess7 I live in this area! Where are you looking at specifically? Do you have any questions about particular areas of #Cincinnati? Is it just you or are you married, kids, etc? #Ohio #Cincy #Cinci #Nky #Kentucky #KY #OH. - there are several of us in here - I‘ll tag others for you too 7y
Smartypants @Jess7 it is just me, single and mom of an 18 year old, he's homeschooled and on the autism spectrum. I'll be working downtown. Northside, Oakley, Norwood, Clifton have been recommended to me but would love to get other ideas. I'll be renting for the first year or two I'm there until I get a better feel for where I want to be permanently. All help is appreciated! 7y

Jess7 #Oakley or #HydePark are nice areas, but likely expensive. Parts of #Norwood and #Clifton are good. You might also consider the Kentucky side too: #Covington (the historical district - is nice, and very walkable). Parts of #Newport too. If you‘re renting these areas might be worth considering bc you could be really close to downtown (5-8 minutes) but the rent might be less. Definitely less than downtown. 7y
Smartypants @jess7 this is super helpful! I'm also looking for a diverse area and access to public transportation for my son. He is high-functioning so hoping this move allows him to develop more independent living skills. 7y
Jess7 The NKY Tank bus system and the shuttle are very good. Both stop downtown and in Newport. The Tank has a lot of convenient stops and includes areas with park and rides that are very close to downtown. The bus ride from Newport to downtown is only 10 minutes with stops so it sometimes makes more sense that paying for downtown parking. The metro bus services downtown and the surrounding neighborhoods. I haven‘t ridden it but I‘m sure it‘s fine. (edited) 7y
Smartypants @Jess7 you are amazing! This information is so helpful. I hadn't considered NKY because I didn't know if the public transportation is sufficient. I'm so excited to be coming to Ohio! 7y
Jess7 You‘re welcome. Check out the Tank‘s website. If you move to the Newport area you would probably be taking the 16 and 25, or the 20. You can check out their website to figure out the route. The bus drivers are very friendly and if you ever needed help figuring out which route to take google is pretty good at showing you which routes or I would be happy to help. 7y
Karkar I also live in NKY and commute into downtown Cincinnati...you will find housing in NKY is cheaper and you get more house. 7y
Chelleo Thanks for the tag @Jess7 I'm not that familiar with NKY but agree it's definitely worth looking into. Pleasant Ridge, Golf Manor, Wyoming, White Oak, College Hill, Silverton and Finnytown are also nice and within the 275 loop. Check for RITA taxes because they can get pretty high depending on the municipality. (edited) 7y
Smartypants @Chelleo thank you for sharing! I have a friend in Finneytown and another in Norwood so your suggestions are a great add! @Jess7 thank you for saving me hours of research! I'd love to have a diverse area, walkable also to a coffeshop or restaurant as well. It seems like all of your suggestions allow for that too! @Karkar perhaps once I get settled we can do lunch! I'm excited about all these #littens in the area! 7y
Chelleo When will you relocate? A few folks are meeting up next weekend for Books By The Banks (which I'll miss 😢). But maybe we can plan another get together shortly after you relocate. 7y
Smartypants @Chelleo I'm flying in this week for my final interview and I should know shortly after. If I'm made an offer, I'll likely be back next weekend to house hunt etc. If all goes well, I'll be an Ohioan again by Thanksgiving. I'd love to meet up with you! 7y
stacybmartin I don‘t have much info about living downtown or in the Covington/Newport area - I live near the airport in Boone County, about a 15 minute drive from downtown. But, KY is definitely cheaper than downtown. Welcome to Cincy though @Smartypants! 7y
SilversReviews I hope your final interview goes well. Best of luck finding a place to live. I live in Pittsburgh so I can‘t be of any help. :) 7y
MarriedtoMrT I live deep West Side in conservative suburban territory. We‘re here because housing is more affordable and the public schools are great. It is not super public transit accessible nor a walking community. I would second (third?) Northside. I think Oakley and Norwood would suit, too. Also maybe look at Fairfax on the East side of town and possibly Madisonville/Madison Place. Good luck with your interview! 7y
Pamwurtzler Most of of what I would recommend has already been mentioned - Northside, Clifton, Oakley. Public transit (bus) is good in Cincinnati. Good luck with your interview & welcome!! 7y

Rick Wakeman was a founder member of prog rock heroes YES and also a member of successful British folk-rock band The Srawbs ('Part Of The Union' was their only UK no1) . Among the many sessions the multi-talented Wakeman has done are sessions for David Bowie's Space Oddity (mellotron) and Hunky Dory.

#oh!youprettythings #septembowie
@Cinfhen @Marchpane

TrishB On Hunky Dory he played the piano on Oh! you Pretty Things, Changes and probably his most famous piano part - Life On Mars. A brilliant musician with a penchant for cloaks and wizard hats, Wakeman says of those times: 'I went around to Davids and he played me the three songs back to back, they are the most beautiful three songs I've ever heard played together' 7y
TrishB This is the only book I've (hubby!) ever read on his life in the 70's , but he has written several of his own and there are plenty on both him and YES. A decent read. 7y
Marchpane Excellent post (MrB!) 👏 Just imagine hearing those three songs for the first time *chills* 😮 7y

TrishB @Cinfhen I'm working on it! He's very quiet and shy and doesn't think he can match up to everyone on here!! Which is rubbish of course. Maybe by the time we get to January! 7y
TrishB @Marchpane that would have been awesome 💝 7y
TrishB @abandonallhope it's a good un 👍 7y
AmyG I listened to Yes growing up. I especially loved Wakeman's Journey to the Center of the Earth album. Great artist. 7y
