#secret The CW adaptation doesn‘t do justice to this LJ Smith series I was obsessed with as a kid, but it‘s a fun Halloweeny distraction from reality tonight. #AutumnPlease @eggs @alwaysbeenaloverofbooks #scarathlon #skeletoncrew @Emilymdxn

Pickpick

Another nostalgia-pick, this concludes the original trilogy. None of these kids act like kids, but I love this story and always have. First finish of #AnyWayYouReadathon (I think I‘ll actually meet my goals!).

Goals for #AnyWayYouReadathon are pretty modest: catch up on Vanguard for #SheSaid and The Tao of Pooh for #DeadPhilosophersSociety and finish the tagged. Family are conspiring against me reading this week, but I‘m going to try! If, by some miracle, I meet those goals I‘ll start Squad.

Eggbeater Good luck! Thanks for joining! 3y

Thanks for the tag @MoonWitch94 #ThoughtfulThursday
I‘m also reading Vanguard, The Woman in White, and More All-of-a-Kind family with the kiddo.
When kiddo was trying to make a Christmas wish list and it was hard because “my life is pretty good right now.”
I hate editorial errors, and I really hate thinking a book is a standalone when it‘s a series starter. Also abusive behavior as a “he likes her.”
Let‘s play!

MoonWitch94 Ohhh I hate it when I think it‘s a standalone but find out it‘s a series! I always find the one in the middle of the series 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks for playing ✨♥️📖 3y
SamanthaMarie Yes!! Let's please stop saying toxic behavior is okay/equals love. Better stories!! 3y
ravenlee @SamanthaMarie I‘ve been reading Harry Potter to the kiddo for the first time and I keep stopping and commentating on Ron‘s wretched behavior toward Hermione. We‘re moving on to The Half-Blood Prince soon and I‘m already angry about that part. I just hate this stupid trope sooooo much and really don‘t want to pass it down. 3y
Chrissyreadit One good thing is that Hermione dishes it back - unless I‘m misremembering. 3y

Pickpick

Another pick for nostalgia - I still love this series, though it has its problems. I can‘t believe 16-year-olds are supposed to act like this!

Reading this was my big goal for #20in4 - all that‘s left is starting The Tao of Pooh for #DeadPhilosophersSociety and I‘m really down to the wire on that! But we‘re off to Trunk or Treat (kiddo is “Hermione Granger from Harry Potter!”) so that‘s for later.

Pickpick

This should probably be a so-so, but I‘m grading on a curve for nostalgia. I LOVED this series as a young teen - it actually inspired a Halloween costume in ninth grade and prompted a love of mythology and witchy lore (only the former persisted, unfortunately). A fun, quick read that didn‘t require much focus while I was traveling.

Hooked_on_books Excellent throwback cover! 3y
ravenlee @Hooked_on_books right?! I saw the newer covers popping up and you just can‘t mess with my adolescence! 🤣 Also, the continuation/tv-tie-in titles look atrocious. I‘m going to stay here in the past with my memories. 3y

Hooked_on_books I‘ll join you there! This actually reminds me of the 90s Christopher Pike covers. I loved those books! 3y
ravenlee @Hooked_on_books ooh, I loved Christopher Pike, and some of the R.L. Stine books too. I devoured stacks of those bad boys in middle school. 3y

#LittensDressedInBlood Today's prompt is Book of Spells

Man, I loved this series as a teen! I hard core identified with Cassie, who moves to a small community where everyone else has always known one another, which is what I also did around that time. Sadly, I did not get befriended by a circle of gorgeous witches and find my soulmate and my family's Book of Shadows, but I did join Reading Team, so pretty much the same.

#Scarathlon @clwojick

Laughterhp I really liked this book too. Did you watch the tv show? 3y
ravenlee I‘m rereading this series this month! I also loved Cassie as a teen. I mega-loathed the tv show, though. 3y
MidnightBookGirl @Laughterhp @ravenlee I tried to watch the show, but hated the changes. I read those books so many times, so I knew the characters really well and just couldn't get into the show at all. 3y

📚 #ReadYourSign Challenge prompt 2 for Libra: Read a book that was published in the year you were born. 📚

The book I chose for this prompt is The Initiation from The Secret Circle series. I was born in 1992, and even though this seems to be an updated version, the original came out in that year!

MidnightBookGirl I loved this series when I was a teen (sigh), but I could totally understand the need to update, because a lot of the books of my tween and teens years have not aged well! 5y
