Rarely can I call a novel informative, but in addition to an interesting plot and well drawn characters, this book provides lessons on ASL and Deaf history. Highly recommend.

Charlie is deaf but was deprived of ASL and told to rely on her (malfunctioning) CI. When her parents divorce, she finally starts at a deaf high school. Meanwhile, the headmistress of the school is dealing with cutbacks and a deaf mother with dementia. Austin, who comes ⬇️

You guys this book was INCREDIBLE. This is the first supernatural YA I have read in quite some time and I completely devoured it in just a few days. I loved Vera and Max working together to save his mom and I almost wish this would turn into a short series. This was the perfect read to start spooky season off right!

Everyone‘s sharing some #shelflove with the first seven books on the left side of any shelf, so I thought I‘d share my comfort reads shelf!

This shelf is right next to my bed, and it‘s the shelf I reach for when I need something comforting and familiar.

wanderinglynn Some great titles! 🙌🏻❤️ 5y

And here is my shelf of (mostly) non-English books. Always a struggle to motivate myself to read in my target languages. Maybe covid will force me to make progree. Share your #shelflove!

llwheeler Fun #shelflove idea! I feel you on the struggle. What are your target languages? 5y
ErinSBecker @llwheeler Have I found a fellow linguiphile? 😄 Hebrew, ASL, Spanish, Italian, French, Swahili. I'm conversational in Hebrew (but reading it is more difficult for me) and vice versa in Spanish and Italian (can read but not speak). And you? 5y
llwheeler What an awesome list of languages 🙂. For me, French; Latin and ancient Greek (both reading only, and I'm rusty); and I'm learning Korean. 5y

ErinSBecker @llwheeler 😁 so glad to meet a fell lingthusiast. I have a whole pile of books I wanna ask you if you've read. 😂 5y
ErinSBecker Oh, And I didn't list this before because it's super nerdy, but I'm also learning ancient Sumerian off and on. Would love to feel out with you over ancient langs at some point. Any other #linguistics enthusiast Littens around? 5y
llwheeler Super nerdy is my wheelhouse lol. I've read some Sumerian fragments in translation, there's a corpus of them online one of the universities put up... Oxford, maybe? Can't remember. Very cool that you're learning it! 5y
ErinSBecker @llwheeler a couple years back I was doing a research project with a professor of Sumerian at UC Berkeley on digitized Sumerian texts. He's where I got the textbook I've been self learning from. I dont know if UCB hosts the corpus or if he was using one from a different university, but it was really cool to work with the source texts and see the details of how they were transcribed digitally! 5y
ErinSBecker @llwheeler how did you get interested in Ancient Greek and Latin? 5y
llwheeler What a cool project to work on! I did my BA and MA in classics, with a language focus. I've tried to keep them up since, with varying levels of success lol 5y
ErinSBecker @llwheeler - hmmmm would you (and or anyone else!) Be interested in an ancient languages study group of some sort? I'd love to geek out together and maybe learn a bit of Latin/Greek/Egyptian Hieroglyphics/Mayan Hieroglyphics/Sumerian or others with like-minded folks. 5y
llwheeler Hmm, I could be! If it's pretty casual, and not huge time/energy requirements. Did you have anything in mind? Like a chat room or something? 5y
ErinSBecker @llwheeler - I hadn't actually thought it through. 😊 I definitely don't want to put any stress or obligation on anyone - I know we're all just trying to make it through each day. I'm a fan of real-time conversation (on Skype or Zoom) when possible, but I don't actually know what format I'm thinking of. . . 5y
renegade @llwheeler @ErinSBecker Anyone intrested in Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke ? 5y
renegade @llwheeler I can read English,Hindi,Sanskrit,Urdu & Arabic easily. I can understand English, Hindi & Urdu. I can write English,Hindi,Urdu,Sanskrit & Arabic @ErinSBecker . 5y
