Reading is such a personal thing some people hate this some like it wouldn‘t say anyone loves it , after watching a lot of Shakespeare recently at the RSC in Stratford upon Avon I bought this book there intrigued to find out more about Shakespeares dark lady Emilia bassano,100 odd pages in & chapters in Emilia‘s timeline I‘m so far enjoying but why the modern twist with Melina in manhattan?why didn‘t picoults editor tell her to ditch these parts?

Bookbuyingaddict At 13 Emilia‘s basically being groomed to become a courtesan to Lord Hudson who is 43 years older 🤮🤮yes this makes me want to throw up ! It‘s so sad 😢 I wish I could say that over 500 years later things have changed , but they haven‘t , the world over girls & women are still abused and sexually exploited & innocent and freedom forcibly taken - no wonder these days we want to read something lighter no wonder fantasy is doing so well ! Mollie moonbeam (that is her actual kennel name 😆) and I have been lucky enough to receive an ARC of broken country & WOW 😮 a debut!it is fantastic.A love triangle, a reflection on grief, the age old question of can you be in love with 2 people at once? And a thriller/crime to boot, 76%into & it will be one of my favourite books of ‘25 already.not published here until March il be buying copies for myself & my friends. Compared to paper palace …..

Bookbuyingaddict …and where the crawdads sing , I‘d say it‘s on a par with PP which I loved & better than crawdads. USA 🇺🇸 and UK 🇬🇧 will have different jackets/covers I think 🤔 publishers have got this cover with the bird on completely wrong 😑 it doesn‘t do the book justice - I do prefer the cover with the farm house on but still alittle lacking for such a wonderful debut. I think it‘ll be a word of mouth hit 4d

This started well but oh my goodness Breen grated on me various times she needed a good shake ! The minor characters and her best friends Marco and Sally were excellent ! The romance ❤️‍🔥 wasn‘t as spicy or as full of attraction and lust as I usually like , however it is an easy escapist cosy read & the descriptions of Ireland are very realistic. Do I care enough to see the series out ?? As my library has all 3then yes, solid 3star read

Fire | John Boyne

Pickpick

Well I‘m not working as I‘m poorly 🤒 winter ❄️ bugs here In UK 🇬🇧 plus I mixed a lot in December ! Anyway that means time to be cosy with my fur babies/ twins and binge read book 3 the brilliant 🤩 fire.Equally as disturbing but so well written don‘t be put off ! How characters are linked from each novella to the next is masterful im just sad about poor old Evan‘s outcome. Anyway now we have to wait until May for book 4 Aaron‘s story……..

Bookbuyingaddict ….. I‘m just hoping that out of all the characters Aaron turns out to be the good guy of the bunch . Writing about the dark side of human nature and just had plan evil humans can be is not easy and we see these crimes all around us which breaks my heart, but John Boyne has a way of writing that makes it gripping and necessary in explaining these traits.how do we find out about human nature and different life‘s if we don‘t read ? Highly recommend (edited) 2w

Wow I LOVED this novella so much so I ordered the set so far published, John Boyne is not only one my favourite authors on the planet but he is also one of the nicest men Iv ever met, so lovely to talk to treating everyone with interest kindness and respect, perhaps it‘s this which makes him such a wonderful writer. Can‘t recommend this highly enough & my 1st 5star read of 2025 !

Mrs. Miniver | Jan Struther
Mehso-so

So so disappointed in Mrs miniver ! So much hype and perhaps my own fault as expected so much . Each chapter is a new short snippet story / glimpse into Mrs minivers life and whims, Jan struther was a v talented writer & perhaps this as a weekly column in the newspaper or in letter format was better. Personally I just found it rather boring some books where nothing happens are wonderful but Iv read far superior Persephone books to this one

Oh emmeline! I Had a discussion in the pub recently about how some people do genuinely seem to be born with no good luck or good fortune at all and seem to attract one disaster after another & so it is with emmeline. One of the most depressing books iv ever read because you just know what disaster is going to befall the beautiful but naive emmeline. It js a pacey page turner but I‘d never have read it if it wasn‘t my Persephone bookclub pick.

I‘m so glad this was a kindle freebie because this is one of the worst books Iv read this year , it starts well but then disappears down the boring hole I found the world building tedious and at 259 odd pages still nothing has happened , I started to skim read it. What can I say that hasn‘t been said ?? Not a lot , it‘s over long badly needed a good edit a great story is in there somewhere but my goodness reading this was like wading through treacle! Some moments of intrigue and page turning but not many. Again as other reviewers have said 2nd & last part was the best. Very disappointed and it seemed to take me ages to read it & yet a ken follet book of double the length I skipped through in a week !

Well I wish I could have liked this one better , I had high hopes after seeing a YouTuber recommend this as one of the best ww2 novels they‘d read & Nancy wake what a woman ! Amazing 🤩 she was also based and flew from a ww2 airfield a few miles from where I live so equally fascinating. There‘s a memorial there now as well as a museum as hundreds of secret missions flew out from there dropping agents and arms to aid the resistance & then the

Bookbuyingaddict then the Americans arrived & it also turned into an American air base. Thoroughly researched & I admire that but for some reason I just couldn‘t get to grips with it , I felt no real depth or intrigue. I half read it and half listened on audio but must say the audio book isn‘t great. Iv given it 3 stars mainly for the research but the actual story I‘d sadly give it 1 or 2 stars as found it lacking 3mo

Years ago I adored the bronze horseman and then tried others like Tully by the same author & just couldn‘t get into them , TGITS was a good story, the opening prologue is confusing and lots of characters so moments of head scratching “who is that ?” But it slowly becomes a page turner, she is an excellent writer but this is a whooper of a novel and could have done with being much shorter and better edited.

Wow ! What a wonderful wonderful read , Elif shafak is a genius in my eyes , such beautiful writing heartbreaking 💔 story the beautiful gift of friendship & how terribly cruel mankind can be especially to women all women. So so glad I threw this into my hand luggage last minute before heading off to Greece it‘ll be one of my favourite books of the year

Well that was pants ! So hyped, I found the first 30% of the book (a kindle read in Greece ) so painfully slow with plot lines added in which had no relevance at all to the story or plot . I had put this down and picked it back up a few times and abandoned at one stage to read Elif Sharaks 10 minutes 38 seconds and wow , what a superior book. Really can‘t understand how this has become a Sunday times bestseller very disappointed
