This one was just okay for me. I needed a deeper exploration of how these life long friends all of a sudden fell into romantic love. The tropical setting was lovely and the spice was high, there just wasn‘t enough there there for me.

Thoughtful and cutting, this follow up to Parable of the Sower might not have been quite as strong but it was fascinating to see where Butler took the story and I‘m glad I read both books. Butler truly was a generational talent that examined the American experiment with a keen eye and a sharp tongue.

Julsmarshall I didn‘t see Martha Wells, I was working our booth much of the time but I did see a couple of panels that were amazing. One on AI that spooked me; I really enjoyed a true crime one with Claire St Amant, author of Killer Story and Kate Winkler Dawson, author of the Sinners All Bow. 3d

My goodness, why did it take me so long to read this book? It may be the best dystopian novel I‘ve ever read. Compelling and thoughtful, I love how Butler gradually reveals this world through the characters and how complex and flawed they are while still making them redeemable. I‘m waiting for the next book, so happy Butler was chosen for #AAM @Soubhiville

Oof! As always, Mr. Crosby packs a punch! Raw and fast paced, don‘t start this unless you have some time to sit down and read. Everything else will fall away and you‘ll find yourself in a tough small town, failing due to crime and drugs and a family trying to survive and support each other. Get ready for some complex characters, disastrous decisions, and a view into the darkness of organized crime. #justonemorechapter

So heartbreakingly good! Our 2 characters are struggling to find their way in their own lives and may not be the best thing for each other, but maybe they are? This deals with difficult issues, depression, divorce, single and step-parenting, but it is written in a sensitive, funny tone and I finished it in a day.

Spending the holiday season back in Dream Harbor was a delight! I love a second chance romance and this one did not disappoint! It has everything, angsty hero regretting past mistakes, strong woman who can take care of herself, some great groveling, and steamy reconciliation. And always fun to see past series characters tie the knot. Great fun! This was released September 16, highly recommend! #netgalleygroup @AllDebooks

Upsetting, honest, and starkly funny, E Jean Carroll is a national treasure for her journalistic legacy and well as her historical one with the most flawed president we‘ve ever had. Read by the author, learning about her personal journey was fascinating.

Oof, this powerful psychological thriller is raw, unflinching, and difficult to. A powerful story of fame, fortune, and control, it has me thinking about media, money, and power. I found the ending to be unsatisfying, but I hear the movie ends differently. I‘m pretty squeamish when it comes to the screen, so not sure I‘ll see it, but I‘m tempted. While not a favorite, this kept me reading and i‘m glad I read it.

booklover3258 It's not bad on the screen, they do not show the really graphic deaths. I think the movie ending was better than the book. I thought all the boys acted really well so much that my friend (who didn't read the book) was traumatized at the end because it was so realistic. 2mo
KathyWheeler I liked the book but I cannot make up my mind about seeing the movie. The book is just so bleak that I‘m not sure if I can take that on screen. 2mo
Julsmarshall Glad to hear that, @booklover3258 . Maybe watching it on streaming later is the way to approach. If it is too much, I‘ll be at home with my pups :) 2mo

Great fall vibes and a fun setting, but I wanted a little more depth to the story. For me, it relied a bit too much on steam and not enough character development. Wow! I could not put down this queer romance between an F1 and F2 driver and that surprised me a little since I didn‘t know F2 existed before reading this book, lol. Starting with a horrific crash, these complicated characters find their way back to themselves, and each other, while hiding their truth from the world. James doesn‘t shy away from the real world challenges they would face yet manages to keep it from getting too dark. So good!

Finally got some pool time in this week and finished an amazing novel from a local author. This Southern Gothic odyssey follows a young man‘s quest through the wilds of 1930s East Texas. His veteran father is haunted by his time in the service and leaves his teenage son to keep the farm going. Dark in places, thoughtful in others, beautifully written throughout. Each scene is so well written, it puts you right in that moment. Released August 26.
