Loved it! Francesca‘s insidious girl-bossiness, the commodification of spirituality, gentrification bringing conflict with the locals & secrets of the past collide around a midsommar festival at a posh retreat. Lucy Foley never disappoints & I enjoyed seeing how this came together

Another fantastic book about a truly messed up sociopath! I love LF and her stories. Told from multiple POVs and several storylines twisted together. Might be my favorite LF book yet! How it all comes together at the end…perfect! Book #99 in 2024

Another great thriller by Lucy Foley. Secrets and the past come to light in a small town as a new resort opens. Atmospheric and thick with tension. 5 stars.

Another great read from Lucy Foley. I didn't see the twist coming in this one. It also had a bit of a creepy vibe, perfect for spooky season.

10-13-24: My 36th finished book of 2024! Fabulous read. The Manor is a new destination spot created by Francesca Meadows, who as a young girl spent her summers there with her grandparents and twin brothers. Many faces from the past have joined the opening weekend unbeknownst to Francesca. Back in the mid 2000s, Francesca spent her summer evenings corrupting her friends and now some are back for revenge. There is so much to this book!

I really like this author but this one is not my favourite. I‘ve heard her described as a modern day Agatha Christie which is a good description. This one was a bit far fetched but ended neatly. A country manor mystery with occult leanings.

janeycanuck I think this was my least favourite of hers that I‘ve read. 3mo

Ok. I will not change my mind on this one. I LOVED loved this book.
It is better than the one I read for book club, which I also loved, The Guest List. I‘ve read all of hers now and I think this is the best one and I need to talk about it. The twists keep coming at the end but they make sense to me. I figured a few of them out but I did gasp 3 times.

This is a somewhat confusing thriller, with 2 timelines and some seemingly supernatural elements...but it all comes together in the end. It is a riveting tale about privilege, entitlement & justice, pitting the wealthy against the locals, as the past comes back to haunt the town. In spite of a complicated plot, I really enjoyed it and found it hard to put down. I do so love to see karma in action. Thanks to Edelweiss+ for the digital ARC. 4.25/5

Pick any two… this is a hard choice! I think I would pick 1 and 8, but 3 is a CLOSE runner up. 🤔 What would you pick? 📚❤️

AnnCrystal Five and Eight

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for sure...I'd have to consider the second choice.

I've always wanted to open a bookstore...maybe one day.

(One and Six would be my “close“ runner-ups). 🤩📚😎👍.

Definitely not my favourite Lucy Foley but I did think maybe it was going in a direction that really would have been a disappointment and it didn't! So overall, still a fun summer thriller but it's not the one I'd suggest if you're only picking up one of hers.

This is one of my favorite Foley novels so far. In this one, Francesca and her husband Owen open up The Manor, a luxury resort. But as with most of Foley's books, there are secrets, and everyone's past will soon be catching up with them.

A swanky, snooty, woo resort has its opening weekend and things don‘t go as planned. Multiple characters provide the narrative as we move toward the end and finding out who died and how. Also, the past sneaks in and plays quite a role in the events. Not an omg fabulous read, but definitely enjoyable.

CBee Swanky, snooty, and woo 😂😂😂 5mo
TrishB I read rich and privileged in that subtext! 5mo
Hooked_on_books @TrishB Some of the characters are, yes, one of whom is purposefully dreadful (and all the much fun as a result), but it‘s well balanced by people without privilege/voices of those who work there. And if privilege drives you crazy, you‘ll really like the outcome. 😉 5mo

This one feels like a rewrite of The Club mashed with Foley's own Guest List. It's not bad and there were two good twists, but it felt so familiar. A fancy resort celebrates its opening, but many guests have secrets. The flashback sections of the novel unfold a dark history on the resort's land. I did like the ending and was entertained, but it's not a new favorite.

I love Lucy Foley‘s books. She seems to always bring together a group of people who may, or may not, know each other. These people start to disappear one by one, and are usually found dead somewhere. This book is basically the same with a twist. Francesca, the owner of the Manor, holds a secret that one of the guests knows about and plans to bring Francesca to task (in so many words). A good read.

I started this one on the plane to go on vacation but barely picked it up again throughout due to time commitments and the lack of intrigue in the story or any of the characters. I stuck with it because I figured the good stuff was coming, and it did, all at the end. This is the kind of book that will slide you into a reading slump just because, meh. My reading spot won my attention on this one.

This twisty mystery has immaculate vibes. In an ancient forest during a summer solstice celebration, the rich people at “The Manor” behave badly, long-held secrets are uncovered, and justice is finally in demand. I loved the very end. Nature always finds a way. 🦅

A soft pick.
I enjoyed a previous book from Foley (The Guest List) and looked forward to this next outing. This one started a little slow for me, picked up in the middle and had a surprising but satisfying ending. It's told in various character voices and back and forth between the past and present, but luckily, I didn't have any issues keeping up with it all. It definitely had a spooky atmosphere, and the "trees/woods" almost took on a life ?

robinb of their own. There were some shocking twists that I didn't see coming, and the villain(s) here was/were manipulative and despicable, while the "good" characters finally came into their own.
A bit "witchy", "cultic", and with an eye-for-an-eye backdrop, this story kept me entertained and guessing throughout.
Another good outing for Foley. 3.5/5⭐️

Oh dang, this was just okay for me but I think I‘d have enjoyed it more as an eery October read. Between the summer journal and the Manor‘s grand opening there were a pile of characters, and I wasn‘t invested enough to anticipate or guess those connections.

There was a lot going on in this book. Four points of view to keep track of and journal entries from 15 years past. It was fun to watch it all come together. I listened to the audio book, which had several narrators and was quite good.

This story checked all the boxes for me! Probably the best read I've had yet this year and definitely my favorite Foley book by far, she just keeps getting better and better! I think this would be an amazing book to have a hard copy of so I think I'll go ahead and order one for my collection, I highly recommend this listen/read! Narrator was excellent, very fast paced, folklore mixed with action and ambience. it really has it all! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I am a fan of Lucy Foley so was looking forward to this. It was a little slow to start with but once I got into it, I was hooked. The story jumps around from before the solstice, the day of and the day after. Plus we jump back in time as well. I liked how the story moved around as it left you wanting more each time it changed. The plot was steady building to a dramatic twist filled ending. I figured out some parts. #Netgalley 4*

Foley has crafted an irresistible narrative that blends the present day with a dark, dark past. Her cast of characters, especially Bella and Francesca, crawl out of the pages and into your brain until you can‘t stop turning pages just to find out what happens. What really hooked me here was the dual narrative of the secret-in-the-past plot line that binds Bella and Francesca and the creepy parallel story featuring a local legend of menacing birds.
