The hubs and I are on vacation in Cape Cod (we love it here) but I keep wanting to get back to the hotel so I can listen to my book. 😂 I can‘t put it down!!! 🤣

Eggs Hey you‘re back! I left IG a while back, so goodness! Did you move out of state? Out of country? Welcome back 2d
GypsyKat @Eggs Hi! Nope, same state, just a bigger house and a better neighborhood. The house is old and has needed a lot of work, so I haven‘t been reading as much. 2d
BookishClaire I love Cape Cod!! Enjoy! 2d
GypsyKat @BookishClaire Thanks! We love it here, too! 🥰 1d

A swanky, snooty, woo resort has its opening weekend and things don‘t go as planned. Multiple characters provide the narrative as we move toward the end and finding out who died and how. Also, the past sneaks in and plays quite a role in the events. Not an omg fabulous read, but definitely enjoyable.

CBee Swanky, snooty, and woo 😂😂😂 6d
TrishB I read rich and privileged in that subtext! 6d
Hooked_on_books @TrishB Some of the characters are, yes, one of whom is purposefully dreadful (and all the much fun as a result), but it‘s well balanced by people without privilege/voices of those who work there. And if privilege drives you crazy, you‘ll really like the outcome. 😉 5d

Currently listening to the audiobook and enjoying this. I did not like The Paris Apartment right before this, but both audiobooks have been well done.

This one feels like a rewrite of The Club mashed with Foley's own Guest List. It's not bad and there were two good twists, but it felt so familiar. A fancy resort celebrates its opening, but many guests have secrets. The flashback sections of the novel unfold a dark history on the resort's land. I did like the ending and was entertained, but it's not a new favorite.

I love Lucy Foley‘s books. She seems to always bring together a group of people who may, or may not, know each other. These people start to disappear one by one, and are usually found dead somewhere. This book is basically the same with a twist. Francesca, the owner of the Manor, holds a secret that one of the guests knows about and plans to bring Francesca to task (in so many words). A good read.

I started this one on the plane to go on vacation but barely picked it up again throughout due to time commitments and the lack of intrigue in the story or any of the characters. I stuck with it because I figured the good stuff was coming, and it did, all at the end. This is the kind of book that will slide you into a reading slump just because, meh. My reading spot won my attention on this one.

I think this may be my favorite Lucy Foley. I saw some of the twists coming but that didn‘t take away from my enjoyment of the book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This twisty mystery has immaculate vibes. In an ancient forest during a summer solstice celebration, the rich people at “The Manor” behave badly, long-held secrets are uncovered, and justice is finally in demand. I loved the very end. Nature always finds a way. 🦅

My favorite read of June was the tagged book. However, the Bone Shard Emperor is my favorite read of the first half of the year.

A soft pick.
I enjoyed a previous book from Foley (The Guest List) and looked forward to this next outing. This one started a little slow for me, picked up in the middle and had a surprising but satisfying ending. It's told in various character voices and back and forth between the past and present, but luckily, I didn't have any issues keeping up with it all. It definitely had a spooky atmosphere, and the "trees/woods" almost took on a life ?

robinb of their own. There were some shocking twists that I didn't see coming, and the villain(s) here was/were manipulative and despicable, while the "good" characters finally came into their own.
A bit "witchy", "cultic", and with an eye-for-an-eye backdrop, this story kept me entertained and guessing throughout.
Another good outing for Foley. 3.5/5⭐️

Oh dang, this was just okay for me but I think I‘d have enjoyed it more as an eery October read. Between the summer journal and the Manor‘s grand opening there were a pile of characters, and I wasn‘t invested enough to anticipate or guess those connections.

There was a lot going on in this book. Four points of view to keep track of and journal entries from 15 years past. It was fun to watch it all come together. I listened to the audio book, which had several narrators and was quite good.

This story checked all the boxes for me! Probably the best read I've had yet this year and definitely my favorite Foley book by far, she just keeps getting better and better! I think this would be an amazing book to have a hard copy of so I think I'll go ahead and order one for my collection, I highly recommend this listen/read! Narrator was excellent, very fast paced, folklore mixed with action and ambience. it really has it all! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Roary47 Yay! So excited to read this soon. I‘m glad you liked it. 🥰 1mo

I am a fan of Lucy Foley so was looking forward to this. It was a little slow to start with but once I got into it, I was hooked. The story jumps around from before the solstice, the day of and the day after. Plus we jump back in time as well. I liked how the story moved around as it left you wanting more each time it changed. The plot was steady building to a dramatic twist filled ending. I figured out some parts. #Netgalley 4*

Foley has crafted an irresistible narrative that blends the present day with a dark, dark past. Her cast of characters, especially Bella and Francesca, crawl out of the pages and into your brain until you can‘t stop turning pages just to find out what happens. What really hooked me here was the dual narrative of the secret-in-the-past plot line that binds Bella and Francesca and the creepy parallel story featuring a local legend of menacing birds.

A fancy pants resort is opened and is owned by power couple Francesca and Owen. The locals aren‘t happy with the resort as they have closed part of the beach and don‘t buy supplies locally. There is a big secret on the resort though and at the Midnight Feast, all secrets are revealed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
