I DNF'd this. I got sick of hearing about the fine cleavage and wonderful female form and so much innuendo.

I got this free on Audible. If I'd paid for it I definitely would have returned it for another credit.

Also, I've been absent from litsy for the past few weeks as I was on holidays, but back now and back to the daily grind.

After the more light hearted adventure of the last book, I was pleased to discover that this book feels much more like the first two. This one launches into a world with definitive rules of the goblin marketplace. I loved it and loved the narration.

I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first two books which may be because I didn't enjoy the narrator as much. I found some of the voices a bit annoying which influenced my enjoyment of the story. This was a much fluffier story and didn't include some of the darker undertones of the prior books.

Still a pick though at ⭐⭐⭐

I really enjoyed this look into Jack and Jill's origin story. Love the vivid description of the world they're launched into.

This is definitely not your average fantasy and doesn't have the usual tropes you see in fantasy. The story took me in unexpected twists and turns but the characters are so consistently true to themselves throughout right to the last page.

I really enjoyed this comic. I read some of the single issues a while back, but never got to read them all.

Wynd lives in Pipetown, but he has to hide his ears for his own safety. Magic is not welcome here.

Loved this one, and I definitely will try to get my hands on Book 2, The Secret of the Wings.

Enjoying my The Expanse journey. I've been listening to the audio and would recommend. Love the characters which just jump alive to me. I'm not sure if that's because I've watched the TV Series and can clearly picture them because of this, but the narrator does a great job channelling the characters.

These books are hard to put down. For a fantasy series, there's not actually a lot of magic, but the characters are vivid and flawed and you can't help but root for them.

A definite worthwhile read. A little slow to start, but hang in there until about the 50% mark and it's worth it.

Definitely thought provoking and obvious parallels with the colonisation of Australia.

If I say anymore than this it will spoil the story.

This was really fun.

What if all the comic book characters got dumped into the real world all at once? This tells the chaos of that story.

This thriller mystery was done quite well. Tackles sexual assault & how difficult it is for victims to go through the legal system

Had me continually guessing. I had several different theories going on in my head as to who the murderer was & kept changing my mind.

I was expecting a more tense thriller vibe, but this read more like a police procedural style

This was my IRL book club book this month & I think there will be some good discussion

I've been binge watching clone wars, rebels & bad batch which got me in the mood for more star wars. My husband has a ton of star wars books, so I thought I would read some.

The story follows Boba Fett after he has been swallowed by the Sarlacc. It was very dry with a ton of info dumping. I was completely bored most of the time & hubby did admit this one had not impressed him either.

My fav this month is tough as I really enjoyed the most recent instalment of Witchlands - Witchshadow. I also really enjoyed the Blade Itself

Leviathan Wakes was a re-read, but this time in audio format.

Servant Mage was between a so-so & pan for me. I was a bit disappointed as I expected more from Kate Elliott

I read this for the #SwordandLaser Podcast

The language took a bit to get used to, but once I got into the flow of the book it was quite charming & enjoyable. A group of young women take on a job to protect a lady whilst she's in seclusion until her wedding day. Hijinks ensue & the ladies have to figure out who is behind the attacks.

The MC is a a fire witch and a disreputable lady with previous encounters with the law.

A solid 3 1/2 star read.

Ruthless Ladies is Sword & Laser Podcast pick.

I was going to pick up You Had it Coming, but decided to start the Star Wars book from my husband's collection, so that one is up next instead.

Still trying to put my thoughts in order. Not your average fantasy as there is not a huge amount of magic involved. I enjoyed and am definitely interested to see where the stories goes.

This took me longer to get into than I expected, but that may be because I was unwell with headaches and migraines the week I started it. Once I had a good block of time to devote to reading it though, it really took off and there was a great reveal about half way through that I did not see coming.

There is so much going on in these books. Love the world building and lore and threadfamily.

I didn't get much read this week as I've been plagued by migraines. Not enjoying reading as much as a result. Hopefully I get back into my reading groove soon.

You Had it Coming and Ruthless Ladies Guide to Wizardry are both Book Club books. One IRL and the other for Sword & Laser Podcast.

This was a reread for me, but in audio format this time. I thought the narrator was quite good, he didn't do a lot of different voices but I found I liked the narration anyway 🤷‍♀️

I've heard good things about First Law, so looking forward to jumping into this one and very excited to read Witchshadow.

I'm having the best time rereading the Witchlands books. There is so much going on in these books. Magical doorways, witches with elemental powers, mythical beasts, political manoeuvring, a raider king intent on domination.

Next onto Witchshadow, the newest book which I've not read yet.

This is a great read if you're looking for a very quick fantasy read and don't want the long slog of world building that a lot of fantasy books have. It puts you into the action right from the start.

The story is about the oppression of those with demon wraiths that provide them with magical abilities. Whilst I found the premise interesting I must admit I wanted more world building and I wanted more back story. ⬇

This was a great psychological thriller

Feeney is great at building the story gradually by weaving in hints of information piecemeal throughout the main narrative & the characters backstories

I thought I had things figured out several times, but kept changing my mind about who the killer was and there were several twists that took me by surprise.

A very satisfying psychological thriller that I thoroughly enjoyed reading

AUDIOBOOK: Leviathan Wakes, I'm enjoying the narration.

PHYSICAL: Bloodwitch is a re-read & I'm looking forward to the newest release in the series next, Witchshadow.

EBOOK: His & Hers. I'm enjoying suspense/thrillers at the moment, so hoping this one will be good.

July wrap-up & I had a great month with 15 books read. I decided to just go with mood reading instead of a planned approach which I really needed due to stressful work life and some anxiety the past couple of months.

My favourite was Sightwitch which was a re-read, but my non re-read would be Hollowpox.

Least enjoyed was Whisper Cottage. It was very lack-luster, disappointing & not what I was expecting for a so-called ghost story.

This was a really great psychological thriller that had me guessing till the end. I enjoyed each of the characters & they were interesting enough for me to not want to put this book down. A close knit community where everyone has something to hide, but who is the real threat?
There were a couple of twists that also took me by surprise which I enjoyed.
Overall 4.25 stars & would definitely recommend for a light quick psychological thriller.

This is my favourite book in the Witchlands series. The book is told entirely in diary entries and has illustrations on some of the pages. It's also a pretty quick read. It's a novella, but I actually think it is a very key read in the series as there is a lot revealed about the world and it's characters.

I'm thoroughly enjoying my reread of Witchlands. This is such an underrated series. I think it's aimed at YA, but don't let that deter you. There is so much going on with these books. It's LGBTQ+ that's done really well and is just seamlessly part of the story. There's a cool magic system, bonds of friendship, a prophesy, mythical beasts and so much more.

I'm excited for the next book which is my favourite of the series - Sightwitch.

I booked in my 1st pfizer dose. Someone in my family is antivax. I spoke with them today. I get anxiety at the best of times and feeling more nervous about the jab now after I've spoken with them, as they are very vocal even when I asked them not to talk about it.

This is my second reread through of Truthwitch. I'm completing a reread as I've recently purchased the latest published book.

I love this series, and I'm enjoying reading even more than my 1st time round. The magic system is really cool and I love all the characters with the flaws and the bonds they've formed.

This is definitely a massive favourite fantasy series and I will reread again.

I'm really enjoying this series. Yes it's YA, but I enjoy this different take on the fae with morally questionable characters and there is not too much romance, which I like. The books in this series are also really quick reads and nice in between books between your chunkier epic fantasy reads. I'm straight onto the third book.

This was a super quick novella told from sister Taryn's point of view which I enjoyed. I don't think this is a necessary read for the series, but enjoyable nonetheless.

I'm loving my journey with Morrigan. I think this was my favourite of the three books that I've read and I am eagerly looking forward to book 4 being published.
This is such a whimsical and magical story with the found family trope. These are such fun books to escape into for all ages. Love them.

A spooky cottage with an untoward past and a new family moves in with weird happenings occurring. I really wanted to like this story, as I found the premise interesting but it just didn't grab me like I was hoping.
To start off with I felt there were issues with the pacing. I wanted more intrigue and suspense. I would get hints of this very briefly and then the story would quickly move onto more mundane parts of the story.

My high expectations were warranted & I really enjoyed this retold Greek mythology. I love the way the MC's relationship in this book developed over time.

A decent psychological thriller. A woman with agoraphobia likes to watch her neighbours until one day she witnesses a murder. There were a few twists in the book, one of them didn't come as a surprise. Some compare it to Gone Girl, but IMO I didn't think it lived up to that hype. Whilst I thought this was a good book, it just didn't wow me. Still a solid 3 1/2 stars though.

My June wrap up. Not as many books this this month aswork has been crazy & I've not had mental capacity or much time to read

Favourite was Piranesi, but I loved all books this month.

These are just easy, fun, magical books to read. The whole way through I was rooting for Morrigan. These books bring out your inner child and desire for dreams and magic and the possibility of the impossible.

I listened to this, as it was the free audiobook this month on Audible. I don't know if it was the book or the narrator but I did not like the MC. He just came across a bit pompous and I found the descriptions of women frequently unnecessarily sexualised.

What happens when human children are raised by the fae as their own? How do they survive the ruthlessness of the fae lands. Plenty of morally grey characters. This felt like a good start to an interesting YA fantasy series. It starts off slow, but builds in momentum and it was definitely enjoyable enough for me to want to continue with the series.

Fry does a great job of telling the story of the Greek myths, with his own brand of humour mixed in. Whilst I enjoyed, I have to admit I prefer Greek mythology stories told within a singular story/plot. Sometimes I felt a bit lost in the many gods & myths & after a while I lost a bit of interest. I listened on audio narrated by Fry & he does a wonderful job of narrating. It's obvious Greek mythology is a passion of his. ⬇

I really enjoyed Southern Book Club, as someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s it was full of nostalgia. This is my second book read by Hendrix and I wasn't disappointed. He has this great way of creating tension and ramping it straight up towards the end. The ending was satisfying but did leave me with some unanswered questions and I wonder if Hendrix may revisit the story in the future.

This was a heart wrenching, at times soul crushing historical fiction set in WWII in France. The story whilst fiction has been derived from historical figures and tells the story of the sacrifices and amazing heroics of women during this period that often went untold.

Favourite of the past week was a tough pick, but I'd have to say Nevermoor, because it was just what I needed, something simple and fun that didn't require too much head space for.

Mythos I started on my recent road trip, but need to get back to at some stage.

Most excited for Piranesi, which is for Sword & Laser Podcast.

I've now finished my reread of the Old Kingdom books. Goldenhand was probably my least favourite. The narrator did a good job, but also my least favourite out of the three narrators.

I recently found out there will be another book coming out this year, so my reread of the series has been quite timely, as I will definitely be reading that one when it comes out.
