I‘ve been taking my time with this series. It‘s a credit to the writer that Book 1 by itself is an impressive read. That you can take a break from this genre without forgetting this tale and return to Book 2 with the same fervency. And it doesn‘t disappoint. Hollow City pushes the story to a greater landscape filled with perils both physical and emotional. Can‘t wait to find out how #LibraryOfSouls unfolds! #Fantasy #GenreJuggler #BigPileOfTBR

So many incredible characters who didn't get their due in this book. I needed some more time with a few. I don't want to spoil anything but a great addition to the series and a great audio reread! Fun fact: I thought I hated Kirby Heyborne as a narrator because he did a book I thought was so awful. Turns out he was PERFECT for this and does wonderful British and Scottish accents, as far as my American ear can hear. ❤

tjwill What was the other book you listened to Kirby Heyborne perform? I love him as a narrator. I‘ve listened to many books that he has done! 4mo
IamIamIam @tjwill It was a really awful book about grave robbers. It wasn't his fault but I connect his voice with that horrible book! Lol 4mo
IamIamIam @tjwill I'm not adverse to grave robbing as a topic... wait, that sounds weird... but the characters were badly written and that made it all crap out. 4mo
tjwill @IamIamIam 😂 I understand! 4mo

I recall loving the way the story progressed but I forgot how much I began to hate Enoch and how whiny and self pitying Jacob is. 🙄 I can't wait for the twins, though!

Like reading under the covers at night at a sleepover. I liked this book much better than the first one. A lot more character development, a better understanding about some of the specifics of their world— just better all around. Jacob still irritates me, but the other characters make up for it.

OOF I‘M LATER THAN USUAL! Today‘s #colormepretty is #monochromatic!

Hollow City was great. I loved the Miss Peregrine‘s trilogy, and was not disappointed with the end. I haven‘t read the new one, though.

Hush, Hush was one of the books at the height of the YA angel thing. I didn‘t like it and only read the first.

The Dark Deceit is the third book of a series I started reading on Wattpad and is something I consider a guilty pleasure.

Seth and I just finished this. I preferred this, but Seth‘s view was he preferred the first book as he thought it was more original. He thought this one was (his words) “let‘s go on a quest, we do the quest, something goes wrong” and was very much like lots of other stuff he‘s been reading. Really interesting to get his take on it, especially now he‘s getting older and can contribute more than just “it was ok...” 😆 #raisingreaders

I am loving these books!! I can‘t believe it took me this long to finally get to them. I finally broke down and got an audio book from the library the other day (the first book in the series) while I‘ve been laid up in bed, not in much of a condition to read a physical book. They‘re not too bad.

In the second book of Miss Peregrine‘s Peculiar Children, the Hollow City refers to WW II London. The peculiars and Jacob are on a quest to search for the last ymbryne who will restore Miss Peregrine. They encounter a menagerie, hollows, wights, Gypsies, and other peculiar children. This was a sold follow-up and an unexpected twist in the end. There are also ideas of superiority, the devastation of war, and the idea of community. Recommend.

I‘m taking this summer off from my position as early childhood director at my camp to be home with Little Dude, but today was a perfect day to visit all our friends! It‘s an hour drive from our house, giving me plenty of time to finish this #audiobook. 🚙📖😎

I don‘t know if I‘ll do a proper review (time is limited when one has an infant) but I definitely enjoyed this and am looking forward to listening to Library of Souls. #PeculiarChildren

“The minister peers down...” THE WHAT NOW???

Jacob Portman and his family are Jewish. We don‘t have ministers. We have rabbis.

If you‘re a goy (non-Jew) trying to write Jewish folks, maybe do some research????? (Can‘t find any suggestion anywhere that Riggs is Jewish hence my assumption he‘s a goy.) #petpeeve

Went for a nice #audiowalk today — it was our first in over a week due to the recent heat wave we‘ve been surviving in DC. In honor of the Peculiar Children (whose stories intrigue me) #LittleDude & I walked to the Mushroom House. My mom used to walk me here when I was a kid (another perk of living in my childhood neighborhood!)

Very glad I gave the #audiobook for this sequel a chance. It‘s a different narrator & that‘s making such a difference.

I wrote this book down to put on hold at the library and realized that I HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT IT AND IT WAS SITTING ON MY TBR SHELF. I need a catalog system so I will know what I have and what I do not have; my memory cannot handle this many books. Do any of you have a catalog or a list of some kind? Tell me about it so I may glean knowledge from your wise selves.

This book is the sequel to Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. In Hollow City, Jacob and the peculiar children are trying to help Miss Peregrine to transform back to her human form. The longer she stays in bird form, the more human self of hers will be lost. Only another ymbryne can help her.

Was it just me, or was this book not nearly as good as the first one? It became really convenient and predictable.

I might pick it up again at some point just because I loved the first one so much, but right now I have too many other great books to read!

Coco I agree, the 2nd book was my least favorite. The third book is better, but I still think book one of the series was the best. 2y
MinDea This story did not need to be a trilogy in my opinion. I loved the first one, the second was not great, the third one was better but not as good as the first. Have you read Tales of the Peculiar? I enjoyed that book. @Coco 2y
Coco @MinDea No I didn‘t pick that one up. After finishing the trilogy I was ready to move on. I agree I think a stand alone book would have been better! I‘m gonna add the Tales is the Peculiar to my TBR for the future bc it does sound interesting! 2y

I‘m catching up on reviews. ☺️

I‘ve completed this trilogy now, and this book fits the bill as the difficult middle book. It was more of a vehicle for moving the story along than a self-contained story. There was also more gloopy teenage romance than I‘m used to but I survived.

This series is incredibly imaginative so I‘m glad I‘ve read it. Review of Book 3 is on its way!

I‘ve been thinking about this all afternoon.

Why do we feel the need to apologise for who or what we are?

Is this healthy?

I‘m an American who has lived abroad since 2000. Issues of belonging and community are important for any immigrant.

I can‘t quite frame what I think here into words. These few sentences resonated with me.

[DELETED] 3803335244 I definitely don't apologize for being an American. I'm a United States Navy Veteran & very proud of my country. I don't know why anyone apologizes for being who they are. I'm also Native American, Irish, Scottish. My grandmother was an Irish immigrant, came here for a better life & freedom. I feel History good & bad makes us better. I don't feel I'm better than anyone to be proud of being American. These words get me too, why apologize? 2y
