A Virgin River Christmas
A Virgin River Christmas | Robyn Carr
20 posts | 23 read | 2 to read
Last Christmas Marcie Sullivan said a final goodbye to her husband, Bobby. This Christmas she's come to Virgin River to find the man who saved his life and gave her three more years to love him. Fellow marine Ian Buchanan dragged Bobby's shattered body onto a medical transport in Fallujah four years ago, then disappeared as soon as their unit arrived stateside. Since then, Marcie's letters to Ian have gone unanswered. Marcie tracks Ian to the tiny mountain town of Virgin River and finds a man as wounded emotionally as Bobby was physically. But she is not easily scared off. As Marcie pushes her way into his rugged and reclusive life, she discovers a sweet but damaged soul beneath a rough exterior. Ian doesn't know what to make of the determined young widow who forces him to look into the painful past and, what's worse, the uncertain future. But it is, after all, a season of miracles and maybe, just maybe, it's time to banish the ghosts and open his heart.

My favorite Virgin River book(and I‘ve read past this in the series before I got this one)! Marcie‘s marine husband died from severe injuries in the Iraq war. Having not heard from his best friend, Marcie starts to search for him but he seems to have dropped off the grid. Her persistence pays off.

I really enjoyed Marcie and Ian‘s story. I hope they show up in more books! And the title is a little deceiving, not a lot of Virgin River or Christmas in this one.

Started and finished this in 4 hours last night. It was just what I needed while I was feeling over stimulated by noise. #WinterGames2021 #TeamGameSleighers #WrapItUpReadathon #WinterCosy #AVeryMerryReadathon @StayCurious @keys_on_fire @TheSpineview

I did some #audiobaking because my mum asked for her favourite brownies. I had to use different chocolate than I normally do, but they still turned out great: crispy top, splodgy innards. (They look underbaked, I know, but they aren‘t. A dry brownie is a terrible thing.)

I made a good started on the tagged book while I worked, and I‘m really enjoying it. I can see why the Virgin River series is so popular.

Cortg That looks DELICIOUS 🤤 Happy Holidays to you and your family! 4y

Loved Marcie and Ian‘s story. Short and sweet but not real heavy on the Christmas.

...I‘m bringing this instead. Here‘s hoping no one will be able to read anything steamy over my shoulder! #superaprops #thatsme

ValerieAndBooks Is the new Netflix series based on this? 5y
BarbaraBB You will be reading during the concert? How brave! I wouldn‘t dare but love the idea 😀 5y
Octoberwoman I‘m glad I didn‘t read this one in a public place - it made me very emotional and I cried! 5y

LauraBrook @ValerieAndBooks Yes, I think so! Has the series started yet? 5y
LauraBrook @BarbaraBB No, I had it with me in case I couldn‘t find my friend to sit with, or if I had time in the intermission. Funny enough, there was an older man reading a Western during the concert! His wife kept elbowing him to stop, or I wouldn‘t have noticed. 😂 5y
LauraBrook @Octoberwoman Ooh, thanks for the heads up. Maybe I‘ll switch my purse books back, save the potential tears for at home. 5y
ValerieAndBooks Yes the series has started— I was interested because it takes place in Humboldt County (don‘t know if the books do) where I have a lot of family! I have watched the first couple episodes but no time for the rest yet. 5y

I love this series! Also the Netflix version is fantastic, and I recommend even if you haven‘t read the books. This is book 4 of the series which highlights veterans who ended up in the title‘s Northern California town. Also another #HolidayRead for #WinterGames! This #romantsy book is a holiday treat.

phatsallylee I just binged the netflix show. I didn't realize it was based on books until i got started! Definitely going to check them out. 5y
Nessavamusic @phatsallylee yes! Season 1 is book 1 & 2 overlapped, I like how they did it. There are some small differences but it‘s pretty faithful. 5y

Another square down for the #WinterGames #WinterReadsBingo for #TeamNutcracker In the tagged book, the two main characters are snowed in at his mountain cabin for a few days & get warm in a more intimate way!❄️ 2pts #PointsTotal-215

My 2nd book of the #WinterGames for #TeamNutcracker was a sweet story about a war widow on a mission to find her late husbands sergeant. I‘m not a huge fan of “chick lit” but I don‘t mind the Virgin River series, it has humour & heart. 21pts #PointsTotal-212pts

#WinterGames #TeamNutcracker #FestivePhotoChallenge day2 #SappyHolidayRomance While my current read does have a lot of sarcasm & humour, at its heart it‘s a soppy holiday romance. A year after Marcies Marine husband Bobby finally passed away after spending 3yrs in a vegetative state from injuries received in Iraq, she goes looking for the sergeant that rescued him & finds Ian at Xmas, hiding from memories in Virgin River. 2pts #PointsTotal-88pts

And finally, this #WeeklyForecast is full of Xmas stories for the #WinterGames I am not a huge fan of “chick lit” but it‘s for a challenge which means #SuckItUpButterCup! I do genuinely like Jenny Colgan though and Seven Days Of Us has been likened to This Is Where I Leave You which I love, so fingers crossed🤞It‘s all for #TeamNutcracker🥜 1pt #PointsTotal-86pts

alisiakae You and me both! I read a lot of lighter fare fiction in my early 20's, so I feel like I am revisiting those years. 😂 5y

My 2nd book in the #WinterGames for #TeamNutcracker is the first Xmas themed entry to the Virgin River series. Which I‘ve just found out has been adapted for Netflix & starts 6th December! I‘m not a huge reader of either “romance” or “chick lit” but this is one of the few that I enjoy. It‘s quirky & funny and full of heart. 1pt #PointsTotal-73

Bookworm54 You have deducted some points off yourself! 72 before this post, so you are at 73 ☺️ hope you enjoy! 5y
TEArificbooks Love this series and excited for the Netflix series. She has a few Christmas stories from this series. I just pulled 3 of the shelf. I hope I get to at least one. My tbr for the month is growing. 5y
CarolynM How are you today, Liz? 5y
Bookworm54 Adding an extra 5 points here since the adaptation is made :) 5y

He talked a little about the wise men, the kings, and the shepherds who left their flocks. They were driven. They had a task, a #goal. As men, they were so different, the simple Shepherds, the kings, but it‘s not only rich men who are driven or poor men who follow a calling. #QuotsyDec18

Oh my, so many feels. I don't think a book has made me cry this much ever! It's not sad, it's just so emotional.

somehow forgot to post this photo for #photoadaynov16 yesterday, I find I do the majority of my reading on the couch but I always end my day with a bit of #readinginbed (and if it's a good book I usually stay up late finishing it as well)
