Based on the real life Bone Wars, “Dragon Teeth” blends western action and a wry sense of humor together in a way only Crichton could.

This book was not what I was expecting. I didn‘t dislike it but feel the synopsis on the back led me to believe it would be more of a palaeontology adventure , but it was more Wild West focused.
And yes, those are a bunch of kids palaeontologist tools and fossils. My Litsy handle is DinoMom for a reason. 😜🦖🦕
This was also the book for the last roll of the month for #roll100 hosted by @PuddleJumper
Just pulled the 3 books for the February #roll100

Thanks PuddleJumper for helping me get through my very over stuffed TBR bookcase.
I ploughed through the January reads and ended up reading a bunch more on my shelf as well. I guess I should have participated in this sooner!!!! 🤷🏻♀️
In the late 1800‘s these two real life paleontologist professors were bitter rivals. Dr. Marsh- Yale University( left) and Dr. Cope- U of Penn (right) were searching for dinosaur bones in Wyoming. They would take students with them in the Summer. This book is well researched and fast paced. William Johnson,a student from a privileged Philadelphian family goes along for the ride, and ends up traveling with both! The audio was well done!
Have been away for a few weeks. Road Trip to the Grand Canyon! Such a thrill! But… no time to read.
Packed three audio books. I tried two with my husband, and he sadly hasn‘t developed an appreciation of the joy of audiobooks. This one he did stay with a bit. So, now that I‘m home, I will finish on my own!
Our book club read this and I was the only out of 9 who enjoyed it. I found it fast paced, engaging, and full of remarkable characters. It took me about three days to read it but everyone said it was boring and slow.
Thank you so much to @ShelleyBooksie for my #alterednightmareswap. So many goodies and My son has already picked out all the stuff he wants❤️🎃.
Excited about the book! I like the Halloween cover and designs you made to alter it! I love bookmarks so much! Did you make them?

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.

😡😡😡 Stupid sticker torn part of the cover. Book stickers should be outlawed!!
I enjoyed this. It felt like a judicious account of the gold-rush, Indian wars, gunfight-filled American West. Goldblum shouldn‘t hold out for a part in the movie, though, as there was little science-thriller plot going on.
You're welcome for the picture, BTW. 🎤

Michael Crichton, the New York Times best-selling author of Jurassic Park, returns to the world of paleontology in this recently discovered novel – a thrilling adventure set in the Wild West during the golden age of fossil hunting.
May 1 means it‘s time for my April reading recap. I only finished 7 books this month and of those only 2 weren‘t audio. I really need to work on that. #readingrecap #aprilreads #readingtracker

William Johnson is a typical wealthy Yale student in the mid 1800s who decided to give up his summer vacation in Europe for a bet where he learns photography, and convinces a paleontologist to allow him to accompany him out west on his fossil dig. Breathtaking action scenes, one of the greatest rivalries of the time, interactions with "savage Indians," and always at risk of a shoot out, this book had my heart racing on so many occasions.
I enjoyed this story about a young Yale student who on a dare goes west to be the photographer for a professor as he searches for bones. It was a fast paced story and had several twists to keep you interested. Excellent prose. The only thing I wished for is a little more character development. ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is an ok book. I didn‘t feel it was a strong as his other books. It is by no means a bad read but it did not live up to my expectations.
• Page 208, little more than halfway through. This one is dragging a bit for me but it's still a pretty good story. It seems to pick up and slow down on the regular; I like the main character enough, so that's keeping me going for now •
Fun historical fiction with some witty intellectual dialogue. Great for buffs of the Old West or dinosaur excavation.
• This evening's reading buddy. Cats are really the perfect reading companions...especially the lazy ones who just sit there and stare at you, and then fall asleep •

• Surprised to find this one on audio the other night. I love listening to books these days. Just started part 2 and although it's slow-going, I'm enjoying it. My first Michael Crichton 😎 •

An adventure in the old west based on real facts , nice to read and thought-provoking for dinosaur lovers. Weak book when compared to other author's books, but compelling reading for Crichton fans.
This is a fictionalized account of a true story—the bitter rivalry between two paleontologists in the Wild West. What‘s even stranger is that apparently Michael Crichton actually toned down the feud in the book out of fear that the truth was too unbelievable! I really enjoyed it, and I‘m not a fan of westerns!
Great mix of history and fiction! Fossils, drama and the “Wild West”
• Good morning Litsy!! What are you doing today? •
Another fabulously cloudy and cool day. 😍

• Currently reading my first Michael Crichton. Page 39. Does it pick up soon? Suffering from a short attention span lately 😕 •
Being the enigma that I am, I am reading about dinosaur bone hunting in the 1880s while sitting in the air museum I work at. And I regret none of it. Here‘s to the 7th Crichton book I‘ve read in the past 6 weeks!
In 1876, the hunt for ancient bones is more thievery than science. When a spoiled Yale student takes a bet that he can‘t survive one summer in the Wild West with paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh, he‘s in way over his head.
His boss might be paranoid, but the bullets are real.

Michael Crichton‘s books always make you think or at least learn about something you may have never thought about. How did the first people decide that gigantic bones found in the Wild West were part of scientific history? Not his best book, I‘m sure he would have included more if he had the time and chance.
I've read all of his works, and I just can't get into this one.
First time reader if this Author..glad I read it..it was interesting.
Today‘s #blameitonlitsy #bookhaul. The tagged book is the only one not directly tied to a Litsy recommendation. 😂 Y‘all are bad for my budget. 💸💸💸💸
I really enjoyed this quick read. It wasn't an action packed edge of your seat adventure, but kept a steady engaging rhythm. What the book did best was get me more interested in that part of the American west histories in regards to paleontology. This book revived a childhood spirit for adventure.
A new Michael Crichton book is always a welcome especially when you are a massive fan, as I am. This is a great read with the normal combination of historical fact and fiction. This story tells of the hunt for dinosaur bones in the Wild West with an injection of Indian history. Being not just a fan of Crichton but also a keen reader on Native Americans this was just the book for me. For any fan this is a must read.
This book starts a little slow but gets really exciting. If you like stories of the wild west, you‘ll love this.
Enjoyable, quick read with an interesting "wild" west setting. Most will probably agree that this is not Crichton's best, but as a fan of his previous books, I was delighted at the chance to read him once more.
First book of year! If you are looking for a Western why not try one based on the historic feud between paleontologists Marsh and Cope during the era of the dinosaur wars. It is quick to read not Crichton‘s best, having been published posthumously, but an interesting time nonetheless. #bookriotreadharderchallenge #western #science #historicalfiction #readingchallenge #posthumously

I love this quote. Even in this time gold was the reason behind war. Today we can question whether we went to war with Afghanistan for exactly the same reason. The hills are full of gold.
