Overall I enjoyed this. The diverse cast of characters all feel very real, the non-magic situations have current relevance, the magic itself is very cool, and I like the intermingling of art and music into everything (one characters shadowshaping is controlled by her voice, which is neat). (Cont.)

Rarely do i ever read sequels like this;however with their tight friendships and use of their various creative talents to battle heinous, power hungry demons, well, who could resist?

I'm usually not one for the fantasy/sci-fi YA series but I'm loving this one. I'm actually frustrated because I can't find any information about the eventually forthcoming third book. I also highly recommend the audio version; returning narrator Anika Noni Rose puts her theater experience to good use and is absolutely wonderful. Every character voice is individualized and the few lines she gets to sing are a bonus.

I finished this one about two weeks ago and have been trying to digest. The audiobook was fantastic, read by the wonderful Anika Noni Rose, who also read Shadowshaper. Overall, I liked it and how it built on the world set up in the first novel. I didn‘t like the change in relationship between Sierra and Robbie and her new love interest in this book. Looking forward to the next installment!

No real #activist books in my collection - but I do love the Shadowshaper series, and the second book has a pretty strong #blacklivesmatter plot line. I geeked out so hard over these at TLA last year that I‘m pretty sure Daniel José Older was weirded out while signing, but that‘s pretty much the story of my life when it comes to meeting authors. #readingresolutions

Daniel José Older‘s first book in this series, Shadowshaper, was terrific, and I think I like the sequel even more. The Brooklyn of Sierra and her friends, who use magical abilities to channel the spirits of the dead and, is richer and funnier and fuller and more challenging. Awesome YA book that folks of any age can dig into.

Getting back into audiobooks!

I could not love this series more! The characters are wonderful, the setting feels like a character, there‘s a great mix of humor and darkness. Fantastic!!!!

So......... I was a little disappointed with this one, but I can't really put into words exactly why. The story is still super fun and unique and I really love Sierra. But the pacing was maybe a little off for me, and at times it kind of felt more like a graphic novel than a regular novel. Which I know a lot of people probably love, but is not really my thing. Even so, I still liked it, just not as much as the first. 3/5 ��

I loooooooved Shadowshaper so I am super excited for this sequel! And damn do I love the cover art for these books. So glad the publisher (or whoever designs covers) didn't try to hide or downplay the character's identity. #nowreading #currentlyreading

THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD. If "Shadowshaper" and "The Hate U Give" had a baby, it would be this book. It's funny and raw and vulnerable, and it is just tremendous. (Plus, "Six of Crows" and "Hamilton" refs!)

So I reread SHADOWSHAPER before I did this one, and no second book syndrome here. Part two is excellent, and tremendously better than part one. DJO has NO chill. Excellently crafted plot with very relevant real-life issues woven in. AND THERE'S GOING TO BE A PART THREE. God I love Sierra. Get your hands on this when it's out in the fall!

@bibliocurl is more than halfway through SHADOWSHAPER, which means I have to buck up and finish this one so that she can read the sequel.

I was lucky to receive a copy of SHADOWHOUSE FALL at this year's BookExpo... and devoured it (and the novella that precedes it) in nine days. I didn't know it was possible to fall more in love with Sierra and her family and friends, but it was.
