I've been eyeing this book for the 5 year since I got it for the library and finally got around to picking it up yesterday. I could not put it down! It was such a beautifully written, quiet story that just got under my skin. Soooooo good!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
It is Kansas 2065 and Adri has been selected to be a colonist on Mars. However, weeks before the launch she finds a journal of a girl who lived in her house in the 1930‘s. This girl lived through the Dust Bowl and Adri needs to know what happened to her.
So, this book is told in three point of views. I wish we got more about the Electric. I found myself not connecting with the characters. It was definitely a short, fast read.
Brilliant, insightful and intriguing book, enjoyed snuggling up and reading it 😊 Read as part of the #buzzwordathon 5/5
Finished this book this week and turned in my Library‘s Summer Reading Book Bingo! I had 3 possible bingos! It‘s the first time in my recollection that our library has done a summer reading activity for adults. For #BFCr3, I met my step goal with 37,254 steps and read 6.35 hours. Anyone else have a problem with the timelines in Anderson‘s book? BTW I‘m not left-handed but my husband is.
Three settings, three characters - Adrin in 2065, Catherine in 1934 and Lenore in 1919. All face adversity and all are linked in some way. I really enjoyed this book - a bit confusing at first , but it all comes together in the end. It was similar to doing a jigsaw puzzle; the picture gets clearer, the more pieces you connect (the more pages you read).

4⭐️ to Midnight at the Electric. Part historical fiction, part science fiction, all enjoyable. #newtsreadathon2019
About to start this one after being wrecked (again) by A Fault in Our Stars. Really looking forward to it, hope it's as good as I expect! 😋
I had to bail on The Little Paris Bookshop. It is either not for me or not for me at this time. So I‘m starting this gem of my daughter‘s. Happy reading!!!
What a different twist on space travel! The main character is preparing to go to Mars in 2045. Along the way, she finds an unknown connection to family, an old woman named Lily. Lily lives on a farm in Kansas, where we find some letters from 2 characters from the past. The first, Catherine, is a teen during the dust bowl. The second, Lenore, is a teen after WW1 in Britain who wants to reunite with her best friend who moved to the US. Its a ⬇️
My Book Outlet order actually arrived early this time! Happy #bookhaul day to me!!🤓📚
Amazing. Spans 3 timelines with related characters-post WW1, Dustbowl of the 30s, and 2065. And, folks, Galapagos the tortoise has seen it all❤️ Really a beautiful read. Highly recommend.
At the 40% mark on this one and really enjoying it. I‘ve been on a real YA kick...love it! It‘s funny how as a teen I read all adult books bc there was really very little teen material and now as an adult (ok, senior-I‘ll admit, still can‘t wrap my head around my age), I‘ve found a plethora of great books in YA!
Brutus and I are always a sucker for a readathon! #12intwo even though my weekend is crazy with work! Need to take a step back and read!
Adri is a teenage, orphan training to be a Mars colonist. During the last months of training, she learns she has an elderly cousin Lily that she will be staying with until she leaves Earth. In Lily‘s home, Adri finds a journal from Catherine (1934) and letters from Lenore to Beth (1919). As she pores through the writings, Adri uncovers a forgotten chain of events. She also discovers her own feelings that have been locked away for most of her life.
Totally lazy start to the morning. Storms all week have made the entire week feel lazy.
Although the story is not what I expected, I am flying through this read. Can‘t wait to see how it ends.

If I had known when I started this book that it was the same author as the Vanishing Season, I probably would not have read it.Not a full resolution. The midnight electric was barely part of the book and I had expected it to be more involved; it could have been removed completely and there would still be a story line, minus the resolution of course. The characters were developed well enough but the story wasn't. Something missing. Almost pan.
Received this ebook after taking a teacher survey. Same author as Tiger Lily, which I read a while ago but didn‘t love. Enjoyed the stories of the intertwined lives of several women from before and during the Dust Bowl era through to the future.
This audio is fantastic! All three narrators are fabulous and the story is so engaging!
I'm going to smash this reading goal?
How many books are you looking to read in 2018? #ReadingGoals #2018
A satisfying read that introduces us to characters from the Great War, 1930s Dust Bowl and beyond, all interconnected.
Thank you so much @erinreads for the lovely present. Also the card is TOO CUTE! Happy holidays and thank you for the birthday wishes! 😚
I‘m jumping on @erinreads #50kgiveaway because I would love to read Midnight at the Electric and Tell the Wolves I‘m Home!
Congratulations to @erinreads on reaching 50k 👏

I would really like to read The Lonely Hearts Hotel or Midnight At The Electric. Both sound fantastic 💙
Well, my puppy ripped up my brand new copy of Midnight at the Electric. She owes me a new copy for Christmas!
Sigh, Mondays. 🤦🏻♀️
I kept trying to convince myself that I don't need anymore books but we all know that's not true so here's my entry for @erinreads #50kGiveaway. I honestly don't know that much about these two other than there's an extreme case of #coverlove on my end and I need them. Lol.
Congrats on your latest hallmark and good luck to everyone participating in the giveaway!
Thanks @erinreads for the #50kgiveaway. This book want on my radar at all until you posted, and after reading the blurb, it looks right up my alley! Thanks for the rec! 🤗
I am really enjoying this audiobook. Lily is an adorable character.
I never read in bed (other than at night), but after a week of hard emotional and physical work and a busy day at YALLfest yesterday, I'm loving the luxury of my cozy mattress. I just finished this book, which is a lovely intergenerational story, and the colors on the cover are 👌.
Knocked this month‘s YA book club pick as an audio book on my long drive home today. The cover of this really doesn‘t give an accurate impression of what this book is actually about. I think it was a solid 3 out of 5. Thanks to Libro.fm for the free bookseller ALC of this.
This was a 3/5 star read. It was good, but not great. I loved the historical component of this dual time story, but the contemporary (in this case futuristic) timeline was lacking. The author could have done a lot more with the Mars mission part of the plot and I wish she would have. That said, it was enjoyable and I wanted to see what happened to the historical characters. Overall, I'd recommend.
I think I liked the idea of this book more than I liked the book itself. #historicalfiction #ya #bookclub #teachersoflitsy
1. Fourth most recent picture: my fluffy, beautiful weirdo, #KingCyress. He could totally sense that something was happening & was extra clingy this morning. Now we must be parted for 48 hours. 😿
2. Book I'd recommend: 👆🏻Tagged book! READ IT.
3. Weather is 🌤 and warm.
4. Currently reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt
5. No plans for Labor Day itself. And I am totally okay with that. 👌🏻

One of my favorite reads of the year and one that quite literally almost takes you of this world. 🚀 Thanks, @valeriegeary for the chance to win an ARC of your new book! 💕 #outofthisworldgiveaway #us
Currently reading: Midnight at the Electric by Jodi Lynn Anderson. This was the photo I entered for yesterday's Instagram challenge...reflect your current read. I am realizing I need to put less pressure on myself with the challenges... So now I am only doing challenges that interests me instead of forcing my way through all seven. So I won't be doing today's Instagram challenge, which involves cosplay. #Booktubeathon #lesspressure #feelingbetter
This is what our reviewer had to say about #MidnightattheElectric, " Jodi Lynn Anderson gives us three strong female friendships bound together by history and a tortoise. She shows us familial, romantic and friendly love. Most of all, she is not above choosing what is right for the characters rather than what the reader would want."
This story takes you everywhere in a beautiful, family tree way it all connects. I didn't want this story to end but then suddenly it did. My only complaint is that this was just too short. I'm left wanting more. And now I want a gollapagoz tortoise for a pet. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I really liked this one. Three interweaving stories over multiple generations, told partly through journal entries and letters. Very well done.
This is told from the perspectives of Adri in 2065 Kansas, Catherine in 1934 Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, and Lenore in 1919 England after WWI. Their stories intertwine and come together beautifully. It's a quick read/listen and the audiobook is performed by three narrators.
I had a blast with Jodi Lynn Anderson, Sarah Mlynowski and Adele Griffin! For their author event at @FountainBookstore I got a small item inspired by each book to giveaway to the audience. A rock pet turtle for Midnight at the Electric, Paris map magnets for I See London, I See France and a t-shirt tye dye kit for Be True To Me. I love my job! #AuthorSigning #Indiebookstore
