I Am America (and So Can You!)
I Am America (and So Can You!) | Stephen Colbert
27 posts | 76 read | 12 to read
Stephen Colbert was The Daily Show's longest-running and most memorable correspondent. His right-wing, super-patriotic persona, his insight and general rightness led to The Colbert Report, a half-hour TV platform for his views on the issues of the day and, more importantly, why everyone else's views are just plain wrong. I Am America (And So Can You!) features Stephen's most deeply held knee-jerk beliefs on everything from The Family to Race and Immigration and provides the ultimate satirical guide to the glorious marvel that is American Life. He bravely takes on the forces aligned to destroy America - whether they be terrorists, environmentalists, or brand-name breakfast cereals - and tackles difficult issues like religion, sexuality, and nature ('I've never trusted the sea. What's it hiding under there?') With hilarious illustrations and charts ('Things That Are Trying to Turn Me Gay', 'Sports to Ignore' and many more) and a complete transcript of Colbert's infamous speech at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Dinner, this is a brilliantly funny book as well as a very clever commentary on America today.

Mehso-so

At times it falls a little flat, the deeply sarcastic tone is mostly a joy to read. A political commentary that is a little ham fisted too at times, still worth a read.

I have the best memories of the daily show when Jon Stewart hosted. In university, my friends and I would always break at 11 for tea or whatever and watch the show together. So here is #riotgrams day six naked book spines of my favourite alumni from that show. The Colbert book has his face on the spine 🤣

#agameoffavorites DAY 4: LOCAL AUTHOR
Stephen Colbert lives a few towns over from me (we love him; he often hosts local movie festivals, fundraisers and more, and also teaches Sunday school). He had written many hilarious books such as Midnight Confessions or I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU.
If you've seen his Late Show, you will know he is the BIGGEST TOLKEIN NERD EVER. Encyclopedic knowledge of the Simarillion and whatnot. Clips in the comments.

Disclaimer: I love Colbert, so I might be biased.?

Listening to this audiobook, I laughed, giggled, and even spoke right back to him. He pokes fun at what has become tribal America...the entrenchments we hide within to mask our fear of or dislike of "the other." Definitely offensive satire, which is always a good time for this reader.

I just started this very short audio book. I already know I'm going to be very, very sad when it's over. Of course, Colbert would be disappointed to know I borrowed it from my library. Yep. I'm a mooch. Sorry, Colbert. You say mooch, I say economically savvy.😇

Kappadeemom Hi Pepe - just checking to make sure you received the book from me ❣️ I sent it over a week ago, so wanted i make sure it‘s not lost 😁 7y

I need to do a little more investigating before getting my next #AudioMemoir from the library. This had no memoir-ness about it. Not sure why I thought it would, but it was basically 3 CDs of gags from his show - possibly gags that where not good enough to make the cut to air on the show - and it was dated. I started to skip past things towards the end. #backcover

Picked up another #AudioMemoir from the library to start year two of listening to them in the car when I am driving alone. This one has an introduction with scathing remarks for library card holders. 😄😄😄 Colbert states his book is for America‘s heroes. Who are America‘s heroes? The people who bought this audio book. He also notes that this audio book will not be offered to libraries. No free rides.

Anyone else enjoying the #PuberMe pictures on Twitter? For every awkward celebrity puberty picture shared, Stephen Colbert and and Nick Kroll are donating to Puerto Rico.

Also, I just contacted my Congress people again using the introvert-friendly ResistBot. Text "resist" to 50409 to send faxes (or letters or call) your reps.

merelybookish They are funny! Proof that puberty sucks for everyone. (Although Amy Sedaris looked the same.) 7y

An oldie but a goodie and a perfect read for Independence Day, I think. I love Colbert, and he's simply risen higher in my esteem since taking over the late show. #redswhitesandblues #jubilantjuly

I searched #America on my #Goodreads shelves and these are the books that came up. I've read a few and a few more are #TBR.

Fun fact: I once had a Chevy Colbalt I named Colbert, "because Chevrolet is America and so can you!"

I now own a white car named Betty.

#rockinmay

Cinfhen Nice selection of titles 👏🏻👏🏻😍 7y
Betty I'm honored you named your white car for me 😀🚐 7y
dariazeoli @Cinfhen Honestly, my fave is Brat Pack America. It may have to move up on the TBR 😉 7y

Steve Bannon said Trump was elected by "working-class hobbits". Above is a quote from Stephen Colbert's show last night. NO, STEVE BANNON, YOU DO NOT GET TO TALK ABOUT TOLKIEN. "Begone, foul dwimmerlaik, lord of carrion!" Back to Mordor with you.

I never actually read blurbs, so for this one I just went to the most likely source for a ridiculous one.

I should read this again. I could really stand to lose 15 lbs. 😄

Anyone else wish Stephen Colbert (and/or his alter ego) were moderating the debate tonight? (No offense, Anderson Cooper.) Are you watching tonight, or maybe reading a book instead? #election

moranadatter So much yes to Colbert! I'll probably have it on in the background while I do some housework. 8y
