League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the Vol 01
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the Vol 01 | Alan Moore
London, 1898. The Victorian Era draws to a close and the twentieth century approaches. It is a time of great change and an age of stagnation, a period of chaste order and ignoble chaos. It is an era in need of champions. This title deals with this topic.

This semester's term paper is about coherence in comics so I've decided to take another (academic) look at my love-hate-relationship with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Wish me luck!

With Day 2 under way of the #24b4monday readathon, I'm feeling good at 08:36:30.

I might read some later after dinner but I'm also thinking to just stand in front of my fan due to the heat 😂

2. Shortest Book You Read: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume One

This is the only graphic novel I read this year. The artwork was my favorite part of the book, which perfectly reflects the late 1800s setting and gothic themes. All the literary references should make this one a go-to for any book lover. This is the image featured on the last page of the book.

I finished my Goodreads challenge! 35 is probably an understatement of what I actually read this year, especially considering books I reread for teaching and quick ebook reads from Overdrive (which don‘t always get captured by Goodreads). I increased my challenge to 50, so I‘m going to try to make an effort to reach that before the end of the year!

Taking a break from It tonight to crack into this. I picked this up from a spontaneous trip to the used book store the other day. I‘m not big into graphic novels, but Watchmen and V for Vendetta are favorites. Been wanting to read this one for awhile, so I couldn‘t resist when I saw it on the shelf. #currentlyreading #graphicnovel

Saknicole Yas! I've never read it. Let me know how it is. The movie was meh, but I love the steampunk aesthetic. 6y
Kimberlone @Saknicole lol yeah the movie was kind of Disney-fied. So far the book is much more adult. Same writer as Watchmen...so more in that vein. Lol remember Shane west as Tom Sawyer in the movie?! 6y
Saknicole Omg yesss! I kind of want to rewatch it now... I love watchmen sooo much 6y

Weekends are made for comics, right?!

vivastory One of my favorite series of all time. I was actually thinking about it while reading "Lost City of Z" as Fawcett & H. Rider Haggard were friends. In fact, if i had to describe Fawcett, I'd call him a real life Alan Quatermain 7y

The fruits of my last few book hauls. Some, like Matilda, the golden compass, and water for elephants, I already owned but I prefer these covers. The how to train your dragon books are hardback and were only 2 dollars apiece.

398.2 I loved the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! 7y
KtheBookwyrm @398.2 I was lucky to find it, it was hidden on a bottom shelf, partially covered by other graphic novels and magazines. 7y

Quite delightful. And so much better than the movie (of course). Now on to volume two.

"You dare to order Edward Hyde as if he were a Dog?"
"Dogs, Sir, have more self control! Now get in there." Miss Murray was my favorite. I loved all of her witty comments.
It's nothing like the movie. At first I was unhappy about this but then I started appreciated it. ?

Some bedtime reading! I am excited about this one. Big fan of Alan Moore!

Blueberry This is on my TBR list. By the way, I followed you because of your wonderful name tag. :) 7y
398.2 @Blueberry It's good. It's not what I expected. I get that often about my name tag. 😀Most people who don't read don't get it. Lol This is the perfect community for it. 7y

Alan Moore is by far my favorite graphic novel writer. What I loved about this graphic novel are the literary references. Any of you have more graphic novels recommendations?
