“He hesitated. Then he dropped the ax and walked out of the rain forest,”

The face of determination that the man heals while the animals plead. No consideration for the things he may harm.

Pickpick

The picture book published in 1990 by Lynne Cherry holds true to current day. With the global warming and Amazonian fries that have taken place in 2019, this is a great way to have our next generation understand the importance of the environment we live in. Amazing, detailed illustrations. With cherrys experience having traveled to Brazil, it makes a very relevant read for our youth.

Littens, I'm asking for some suggestions. I've mentioned that I volunteer at a botanical garden, mostly with the education program. I've written curriculum for our school field trips, among other things. I want to do lesson plans and teaching materials for appropriate books to expand our program. Can anyone recommend elementary school level books about plants, butterflies, or the natural world that might be appropriate? Continued in comments.

Lynnsoprano I really appreciate any help you can give me. The picture is the new wetlands garden that just opened last month. 7y
ptkpepe98 I read a book years ago that explained natural selection by the changing beaks of finches. My lowest grades were in science, so I am definitely not a science geek. So perhaps "The Beak of the Finches" might be good to help explain the role of how plants adapt or not. 7y
ptkpepe98 Hah! I missed elementary! Neverind. 7y

Mommamanzi I wish I had help for you, I will be following this post though for my little ones. Beautiful photo! 7y
ptkpepe98 Never mind. 7y
I-read-and-eat Britta Teckentrup has some amazing picture books (Tree for example, or Bee). I also love Emily Hughes, her stories are filled with nature. So it's not informative per se, but very nature related. And The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle playfully teaches children about the life cycle of flowers. 7y
TheBookAddict Can't think of any at the moment, but you may want to check these links out. I'll let you know if I think of any specific books. http://www.amightygirl.com/mighty-girl-picks/top-children-s-books-on-the-environ... https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2016/apr/0... 7y

lildeb_8 This is a great book about monarch butterflies! 7y
Lynnsoprano @I-read-and-eat @TheBookAddict @saresmoore @lildeb_8 Thanks for the great suggestions. I have a feeling that I'm going to end up doing more than one or two books😄 7y
