Loved all the adventures, even if I wish the dynamic between King and Sophie was like 2% more tender. But that's a personal taste thing - on the whole, this is such a well-crafted and sensual book! #historicalromance

Bailing on this one because first I found it boring and then, when we got to the cross dressing portion, it became so galling cis-centric that I could not go on.
“It was not her fault that the part of him she noticed was inappropriate for noticing.” The Rogue Not Taken by Sarah MacLean
Give me all the enemies-to-lovers, fake marriage, and stowaway/road trip tropes. Throw in sarcastic quips between the leads and attempted highway robbery and I will be devouring the novel like I did The Rogue Not Taken. This might be my favourite Sarah MacLean novel to date. 5⭐️
I‘m so glad I found romance novels again. It‘s nice to get lost in a story, in a relationship, and know that it will all end well.
A decent #romantsy but not great. Started slow but picked up once Sophie made her great escape. King‘s trust issues wore thin but the real dealbreaker for me is a profound misunderstanding of the myth of the Minotaur. 2.5/5 ⭐️
When a cat in your book has the same name as your cat 😛 (but it's such a fuss to pronounce that we usually call him just Gus)
Though this Asparagus can't be named after the same Gus as mine, since that would be anachronistic by a good 100 years for this historical #romantsy
I started this book as a light read while dealing with the stress of Gus needing vet trips, so what are the odds... thankfully he's doing much better now!
Smell of books is the smell of happiness 😍😍👌

From me to me lol. Grabbed the chance to visit one of my fave used bookstores while visiting my in-laws for the holidays. My luck was high and my willpower was low, so I scored big! Super excited about these, especially finding the Lady in Gil series! I loved those when I read them as a teen, hopefully they hold up on a reread.
When Lady Sophie catches her aristocrat brother-in-law in a tryst with a woman who is not his pregnant wife, she pushes him into a pond. Instead of taking her side, the other lords and ladies shun her. Sophie disguises herself as a coachman and hitches a ride on a gentleman‘s carriage. The gentleman turns out to be the Marquess of Eversley, a rake who is aware of Sophie‘s social climbing sisters and thinks she‘s out to trap him into marriage.

2. Oh Sarah MacLean, how I love thee...
3. Unclear, maybe crafty times with family, maybe a haunted house? Both? Neither? We‘ll see!

Needed a fun #audiobook so I grabbed my first Sarah MacLean -- not too far in yet but feels like 100% the right choice so far. Witty & wonderful!
I loved the spunky heroine in this book, and the hero who reluctantly gets drawn into her messy situation. This is the first in this series but the second one I've read, and I enjoy seeing the scandalous heroines come into their own.
#romantsy
1️⃣As much as it pains me to say it, I still feel guilty about reading and enjoying romance novels, even though that‘s unfair to both the authors and me. Litsy is helping me to feel less shame, though. 😊

Long week! I‘ve earned a little #romantsy!
Quite good, but it dragged a bit. I would have rather it had been maybe a hundred pages shorter (it is over 400 pages!). But I liked the spunky heroine a lot, it was very funny in some parts, and the sex scenes were 🔥. The references to scandal sheets of the time were fun too. Wasn't super into the hero, though, and wasn't really emotionally attached to the couple. My fav historical romance author is definitely still Courtney Milan. #Romantsy
Slightly weird to be reading this book with my lunch at work while it's getting to the sexy parts. 😬 On another note, I appreciate how this book has had two sex scenes so far and they have both just been him going down on her and that's it. #Romantsy
Decided I didn't have the mental energy to wrap my head around world building of the fantasy and the SF books I was contemplating starting, so I have opted to alternately read this book and Little Fish by Casey Plett. This is my first Sarah MacLean book and it has so far won me over by having a heroine willing to bribe a servant and take his livery, escaping high society cross-dressed. #Romantsy
That was delightful! My first MacLean but definitely not my last.
“You were leaving to be caught so that I could be caught” OMG HOW VERY MUCH ADO OF YOU JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER ALREADY
*fans self* getting to the steamy bits first thing in the morning at work.
About halfway through this as my current work audio. Very entertaining! I‘m reading a nonfic now due to the library soon, but my mind keeps wandering back to Sophie and King‘s antics.
Not my favorite Sarah Maclean, but still pretty darn good. #romantsy
I loved the humor and her characters. Sophie and King were great. #romantsy #romance #historicalromance
Things I did today... 🤷🏻♀️
This was delightful. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Day 3: cliche
I struggled with this one, but I really enjoy the quote that I found. The quote isn't from the book attributed, I just love that title 😂.

Decided to take a break from JAL by starting this series. I think what I really need is a break from romance novels. I liked the H/h and the growth of their relationship, but I hated the big misunderstanding. I knew it was coming, but I still wanted nothing to do with it. Anyway...it's a historical romance, so the HEA is promised, thankfully. Overall, a good story, just not my favorite -but I really think it's me feeling yucky, not the book.
I am working on my second iced coffee this morning because I stayed up much too late to finish reading. The Rogue Not Taken was a fun read that broke me out of a reading slump. And reading a romance novel for the first time in years was nostalgic, a bit like returning to a place that is both strange and familiar at the same time. I'll definitely be reading more.
The way to a book lover's heart ❤️
I haven't read a romance novel since high school, but I've been in a reading slump and decided I needed something new to break the cycle. I'm halfway through and loving it so far. So fun!
I'm so excited!! I just FINALLY got the TRNT off hold from my library, and I am going to a cool romance trivia event tomorrow with one of my best friends and meeting @sarahmaclean ! Everything's coming up Heike 😉
Brain-candy audio recs?
I was excited to come on here and remember that it's #litsypartyofone weekend!
Started reading this yesterday to fill the rake or rogue in the title square for the #rippedbodicebingo read along. I've never read anything by Maclean before, but I'm so here for feminist romance.
"Happiness. That's what books smell like. Happiness. That's why I always wanted to have a bookshop. What better life than to trade in happiness." ~ Sophie Talbot to King, Marquess of Eversley
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜loved this so much! I had never read Sarah Maclean before but strongly feel the need to get all of her books asap!
I am seriously behind on my Goodreads challenge of 150 books this year, so I'm going to try and pack in as many books this month as I can-so probably shorter books and quick easy reads I'm hoping. I'll also just be going through the tbr of books I own. Proposed tbr (but hoping to get to more than ten):
This is just so cute. All the feels.
Afternoon tea today with some of the UK members of Sarah MacLean's Old School Romance Book Club. Excellent food and excellent company. It's always great to meet people who like what you like. #bookish #bookishlife #bookworm #litsylife
I don't read romance very often. But it was a hard couple of weeks and I needed some stress relief. This book was well written and had great character development, but I found it a little frustrating. There's being a bad boy and then there's treating a girl badly. It did serve it's purpose though. I got lost in some fluff for awhile.
This was recommended as a fun, well-written romance by someone whose judgment I trust. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I think it falls into the category of "if I just love you enough you'll stop treating me so badly" romance, which I particularly dislike.
First romance in a LONG time. Interesting, kept me wanting to read. Needed something light & fun. This totally fit the bill!!
Sophie, the quiet, boring one of the Dangerous Daughters, causes a literal splash at a society party and flees dressed as a footman to a Marquis. He is a rogue, but a rogue with a past and a conscience.
They fall in love and after several mistakes and misfortunes.
The Dangerous Daughters are the Kardasians of their time with the scandal sheets to prove it. Romance is not my usual read and I should have given myself longer between books.
@rebeccaschinsky and @Liberty said I should read Sarah MacLean, and I can't resist a good pun, so here we are.
