This is one of two shelving units for my cookbooks. Both are jammed. What is the reasonable response to running out of space? Certainly not culling.

It is to ask my husband to put shelving on his weekend to-do list. 😜

readingjedi Great collection! I also love cookery books...though I hate cooking 🤪 4mo
Tamra @readingjedi they are terrific inspiration nonetheless! 😆 4mo

The money moment when I drop in the Ethiopian butter. The smell is divine! #Ethiopia #foodandlit

This is Samuelson‘s recipe for Shiro - a spiced chickpea flour “stew” of sorts. I haven‘t often seen it on restaurant menus, perhaps because it‘s too akin to home food? Ala grilled cheese sandwich.

GingerAntics That looks amazing!!! 4y
Tamra @GingerAntics thanks - we devoured it! It is a “go-to” dish for us. (edited) 4y

This is a closeup of Berbere, without it and Ethiopian butter the world would be a less wonderful place. I wish I could insert a scratch & sniff! #Ethiopia #foodandlit

GingerAntics Etheopean butter? How is it different? Now I have to try and find some of this. 4y
Tamra @GingerAntics it is a clarified butter with spices. It smells and tastes like a gift! 4y
GingerAntics @Tamra that sounds amazing!!! 4y
Butterfinger I wish you could do a scratch and sniff too. 4y

Shiro for dinner tonight! Marcus Samuelson is sort of an icon for Ethiopian adoptees, having been adopted himself by Swedish parents. He now resides in New York. He is a terrific example of a global citizen. #foodandlit #ethiopia

Marcus says this will be pickles. The recipe is for rum-pickled chilis, but I transformed 6 scotch bonnet peppers in to 6 mini Persian cucumbers 🥒 instead. #cookbooks

ValerieAndBooks That looks so good 🤤! 5y
MicheleinPhilly Probably a wise decision. I made his jerk sauce once and in addition to it being insanely spicy, I didn‘t wear gloves when I sliced the MANY scotch bonnets the recipe called for. For about a week any time I touched my face it was like ☄️☄️☄️☄️. 5y
mrsmarch @MicheleinPhilly @ValerieAndBooks Update, I tried one of the cucumber slices, quite piquant between the jalapeños and the rum alcohol because you don‘t cook the alcohol off per the recipe, but not too strong. I‘m going to put them in the refrigerator and have them cold later on — thinking as a condiment to a burger ?. 5y
MicheleinPhilly Oooh, that sounds fantastic! 5y

Complementing my reading of _Yes, Chef_ by getting this cookbook from the library. Turned in my coursework a day early and time to decompress before bed. 💤 💤

BarbaraTheBibliophage Yay for finishing your work early! I think I saw that Chef Marcus is doing an Audible Original also. 5y
Tamra This has my go-to recipe for shiro wat! Yum, now I have a craving. 😋 5y
mrsmarch @Tamra I have a friend whose father was an Ethiopian immigrant, and she loves spicy food — if it is so spicy she cries she‘s at her happiest. And even SHE was flabbergasted at, like, the recipe for rum-pickled scotch bonnet peppers. I took a picture of the recipe calling for 6 of the peppers with caption “Marcus is out to kill us” and she responded “😳”. I could definitely rum-pickle some other veggie, though... 5y
Tamra @mrsmarch my children are Ethiopian hence my discovery of the cuisine. I adore spicy and that rush of endorphins is exhilarating, but no thanks to the Scotch Bonnets! 😅😂😜 (edited) 5y
Tamra Thanks to you I just sent my hubby out to buy injera. I‘m going to make Habasha food for dinner. Thank you! 👍🏾 5y

Pickpick

This is a beautiful photo cookbook. It is a collection of recipes inspired by the whole of the African continent. I use it especially for the Shiro Wat recipe (Ethiopian) which is a chickpea flour "stew", for lack of a better term. It's more like a thick paste. Sounds odd, but it is incredibly delicious & filing homestyle food. My house will smell good for days. ? Ethiopian butter is as close to heaven as I'll get on earth.

EchoLogical I'm low-key obsessed with Marcus Samuelsson. His food always looks so delicious and he's always so put together on Food Network. 7y
Tamra @EchoLogical 😉 He's very attractive and charismatic. 7y
tournevis Ethiopian is a favourite of ours. My favourite is Yemesser Wat (lentils stew) but Gored Gored is so good too. 7y
