Am I There Yet?
Am I There Yet?: The Loop-de-loop, Zigzagging Journey to Adulthood | Mari Andrew
Adulting meets Hyperbole and a Half in this witty, starkly honest, and absolutely on-point book of essays and illustrations on the realities of growing up and finding yourself. Mari Andrew started doodling when she worked at a bakery--she took some license with the display case labels. When customers noticed and began telling her the drawings brightened their days, Mari realized she could use her hobby to connect with people. She hit a rough patch in her late 20s and began to chronicle her work on Instagram. Nearly overnight, she became a sensation. Now when Mari Andrew posts something new, the Internet rejoices. This book is organized by universal themes of becoming an adult--for example, loss, adventure, ambition. Within each chapter, Mari shares her personal experiences in never-before-seen essays, accompanied by spreads of her signature illustrations, 90 percent of which are brand new. Readers are bound to see themselves in this book, whether seeking advice on how to handle growing up, or just looking for a friend who can commiserate.

This is a cute book that is about all the stages and seasons of becoming an adult and how we react and handle different things. It is a fun read because it is very relatable and quick in a lot of ways. It reminds me a bit of Eat, Pray, Love because the author finds herself in a lot of ways through her ability to travel. I liked this book, but I didn‘t love it. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the format had stayed consistent.

I wasn‘t expecting beautiful writing when I started this but all I can say is I hope someone tells Mari Andrew to write a novel. I‘d definitely want to read it.

I don‘t think I‘m the target audience for this book but it‘s deeper than I thought it would be. Her writing is very descriptive and often beautiful.
Would make a great gift for a mid-20-something who‘s still trying to “figure it all out.”

Sace Oh dear. I'm well past mid 20s and I still haven't figured it out. 4y

You know...this is good...for twentysomethings. Instead of reading this as a "guideline" or for self help, I read it nostalgically (I'm 44). Still, I liked it. It's a memoir that's a comic. And I kept thinking: Girl, you are SO young at 30. You have SO much more to illustrate in the coming decades.

This book didn‘t end up being exactly what I was expecting (though at least half of it is filled with full page color reproductions of Mari Andrews‘ illustrations with which I‘m quite familiar). But it was still studded with moments I profoundly enjoyed, both in the writing and in the illustrations. I‘m glad I didn‘t pass up the opportunity to get a copy!

Love it! If you‘re a single woman, just trying to figure out this crazy life, this book is such a refreshing “me too” feeling. She has such heartfelt stories and she shares her struggles and triumphs—that we all can relate to—in such beautiful doodles and prose.

Just bought this for my cousin's daughter who is graduating from high school next month. I also taught her 11th grade English last year. I'm going to miss her party while we are away so she's getting this next week. I hope she loves it. 👩‍🎓 #Classof2018

I am loving this perfect coffee table book from the fabulous and insightful Mari Andrew. Highly recommend!

This is an illustrative “guide to adulthood” and perfectly captures the highs and lows we all experience day to day. Illustrations include themes of purpose, love affairs, careers, navigating foreign places, creating home, confidence, and so many more. Written for women by a woman, this book is delightful!
