Pickpick

5/5⭐ A beautifully written, often funny, always poignant book. The first part is a collection of metaphors for what writing is like, and the rest adds memoir components. Dillard has a wonderful way with words.

#BookNDinner! My road wasn‘t plowed out this morning, so I‘m hoofing it today. Walking home, I thought I‘d grab some grub along the way (WWRD—What Would Reacher Do?), so here I be: bacon cheeseburger, fries, and some hot tea! MMMmmmm 😋! Happy reads & happy eats 😎👌🏻! (Tagged book is an audiobook I‘m listening to.)

What‘s in the box? Well, I don‘t know yet. I‘ve somehow managed to postpone opening it so I could create this post but I‘m extremely excited to take a look at the contents! This is my first @goscribbler box, after pining away for it for a long time, and I‘m so glad we were finally able to rationalize the expense. As much as I love suspense, I won‘t leave you in it all day. I‘ll do a reveal photo this afternoon!

tournevis @audraelizabeth I've seen the spiral bound, but never the hardbound, and I've looked, even at Office Depots, the few that are left in Canada. 6y
audraelizabeth Interesting, you could try online or put it on your wishlist for swaps. My store carries many sizes but we are in west virginia. 6y
tournevis @audraelizabeth It's available in the US, easy! Not so much in Canada. 6y
audraelizabeth Yeah, I know here in the US some items are regional like pepperoni rolls are a WV thing and Mr Bee potato chips are only in WV. Some beers as well. https://www.officedepot.com/catalog/search.do?Nty=1&Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&Ntk... 6y
tournevis @audraelizabeth Thank you gor the link; I knew it. Shipping more than doubles the price, unfortunately, and currency conversion is steep. 6y

2618 words typed, before proofing and tightening. I can't see straight anymore so for now I'll take a break and look at it later tonight. A lot of info dumping and not a lot of action, but that's what happens when detectives read surveillance files. #AmWriting

As my friend Jo says, "Thud." Chapter done. It did not want to come out on the keyboard so I forced it out by pen. It needs work, but that'll happen tomorrow when I type it. I expect about 2500 words. Now, some reading and supper making.

1️⃣ SF
2️⃣ I have two novels in the works, one SF, one slipstream, and two academic books, one monograph, one collection. I call the sf novel SNOD, i.e. the sprawling novel of doom.
3️⃣ My friend Gillian took this pic of my dog last Sunday.
4️⃣ I do not keep track. I also often forget to talk about fiction here and I almost never talk about academic books here.
#wondrouswednesday @eggs

Eggs I love the title SNOD 🤗💗 6y
tournevis @Eggs I've been working on this for 12 years and the original idea for this, now long since discarded, I thought of in (yikes) 1989. Do you know how many other books and articles and studies and short stories I've finished since 1989? A lot! 6y

Pickpick

This collection of essays is a delight for writers and those interested in what this particular writer‘s life is like. Annie Dillard has a talent for making the simple details of everyday items, weather, places, conversations, and routines much more than the sum of their parts. Her attention to life gives voice to the sacredness and wonder of it. #writersoflitsy #writing

DimeryRene Wow!! Must read this 💕 6y
Louise @DimeryRene Yes, it‘s different from many other books I‘ve read by authors about the writing life. The very way that she has written it is a demonstration of her POV and method. She tends to choose austere settings in which to do her work. No cushy writers retreats for Annie! A simple shack in the wilderness will do! 😂 6y
