By the New York Times bestselling author who "hilariously depicts modern dating" (Us Weekly), My Favorite Half-Night Stand is a laugh-out-loud romp through online dating and its many, many fails. Millie Morris has always been one of the guys. A UC Santa Barbara professor, she's a female-serial-killer expert who's quick with a deflection joke and terrible at getting personal. And she, just like her four best guy friends and fellow professors, is perma-single. So when a routine university function turns into a black tie gala, Mille and her circle make a pact that they'll join an online dating service to find plus-ones for the event. There's only one hitch: after making the pact, Millie and one of the guys, Reid Campbell, secretly spent the sexiest half-night of their lives together, but mutually decide the friendship would be better off strictly platonic. But online dating isn't for the faint of heart. While the guys are inundated with quality matches and potential dates, Millie's first profile attempt garners nothing but dick pics and creepers. Enter "Catherine"--Millie's fictional profile persona, in whose make-believe shoes she can be more vulnerable than she's ever been in person. Soon "Catherine" and Reid strike up a digital pen-pal-ship...but Millie can't resist temptation in real life, either. Soon, Millie will have to face her worst fear--intimacy--or risk losing her best friend, forever. Perfect for fans of Roxanne and She's the Man, Christina Lauren's latest romantic comedy is full of mistaken identities, hijinks, and a classic love story with a modern twist. Funny and fresh, you'll want to swipe right on My Favorite Half-Night Stand.

Although I'm not a fan of the "let's not communicate about how we feel for 200 pages" storyline, this one had a friend group that added a fun dynamic, as well as some complications that were realistic. And I LOVED the ending. Christina Lauren always writes great characters which keeps me reading. ?

I enjoyed this one but not my favorite of Christina Lauren's books. I found Millie's excuse for creating a new dating profile under a different name was flimsy. I didn't feel that she and Reid had a huge emotional connection on the app like it was implied, maybe because their conversations were mostly off-page? And honestly Reid was a little bit of a jerk sometimes and I didn't love him as a book boyfriend. But the banter was still fun. Light pick

Just-one-of-the-guys Millie is a criminal justice professor with 4 male besties who also teach at the same college. When the 5 make a plan to use dating websites to find plus ones to the gala, things go sideways.
I liked some things but didn‘t care for the catfishing or that Millie‘s best (only??) friends were 4 guys she inherited from her ex less than 2 years earlier.

Yay! I also finished my September #DoubleSpin book while dog sitting. This was cute and a fun read.

mabell Dog sitting? Sounds like fun! 2y
Chili @mabell It was fun. A friend went out of town and I went to her house and stayed with her dogs. I get to hang out and spoil them, then go home. 😁 2y
mabell @Chili There‘s a lot to be said for that arrangement! 😄 2y
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I did a LOT of housesitting in my late teens and into my 20s when I was single - getting paid to hang out on someone else's couch and pet dogs has a lot of positives 😂 2y

Enjoyed this one! Having a group of friends like this really would be great. This book was pretty funny and relatable. They make it seem like working at a university is fun, but imho, it's not. ⭐⭐⭐

I loved this group of friends! Funny and sweet but with an undercurrent of sadness that lends depth an authenticity, I tore through this book. Christina Lauren doesn‘t disappoint, I really hope they revisit this circle of friends, I‘m not ready to say goodbye! #BookspinBingo (reading ahead) @TheAromaofBooks

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was fun and cute with a lot of humor and a bit of steam. I really enjoyed the friend group and how technology was incorporated (i.e. group chats, texts, online dating messages). An easy, breezy romantic comedy to balance out some of my longer reads. (Some spoilery thoughts in the comments!)

ICantImReading I felt like Reid‘s reaction to everything was a bit dramatic and maybe a little out of character? Then it seemed like he forgave everyone pretty abruptly. I liked Millie‘s growth and how she went to therapy to work on herself, but thought it would have been more interesting (and realistic) if Reid also had issues to work through. I did find it refreshing that the male was the open, emotionally intelligent one in the relationship! 4y

Christina Lauren (bff duo) are quickly becoming a favorite for me for romance novels. I really enjoyed the Unhoneymooners and this was just as fun. Millie (the main character) is infuriating at times, but her male best friends make you want to hang out with your guy friends again.

I was looking for a quick, fun read and this was both. I like Millie and her posse of male friends. Although I would relate more to Reid, I see why Millie behaves the way she does. And, this book had so many laugh out loud moments. It was both fun and relatable.

3.5-4 stars ⭐️

I don‘t usually read this many light reads, let alone romances, but it‘s been relaxing and self-soothing in this time of pandemic. I love dystopian literature, but I just can‘t right now. I need a little light positivity and fluff with a happy ending. 🤷🏻‍♀️

More in the comments.

dgingo A quick read (I‘m not used to this genre and just how quick these are to read) but I was honestly hoping to read more about Millie‘s academic work than other details in the novel (such as food/beer info.). The ending was a tad abrupt but it was good enough read and an enjoyable distraction. 5y
dgingo A group of 5 tight-knit academic friends, four science guys and Millie, a criminology professor who studies female serial killers, eat lunch together twice a week, hang out regularly at night and on weekends, and they even go away on a couple of week/weekend trips together. 5y
dgingo Millie and Reid are especially close BFFs and romance blooms, or rather they begin to acknowledge their mutual attraction but only during their moments of lust. After that, it‘s denial. Things become complicated when the group decides to try online dating to find dates for a big upcoming black tie event at their university (Obama is the keynote). That‘s all I‘ll say about the plot. 5y

I've had really mixed results with Christina Lauren (bailed on one; gave another 2 stars; gave a third 3 stars); but I'm *that desperate* because Overdrive won't keep my pipeline full. Luckily, this one was pretty good! I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Best friends-with-benefits end up getting matched up on a dating site (because the MC made a profile under a different name—for shame!). What could go wrong?

I wanted to like this more than I did. It‘s not bad, though the dating app stuff makes me feel a million years old. I liked the circle of friends, but the friendship between Millie and Reid never felt right. Best part for me is...going to be under a spoiler tag in the comments. Overall a decent read, and a quick one (read it all today), but nothing outstanding.

ravenlee I love that Millie starts therapy to work through her issues, instead of miraculously finding her way through love. She‘s got some serious issues that need serious help. 5y

Read on my flight Tuesday. I really enjoyed this one! It was fun & sexy with a good cast of characters. I also relate to being one of the guys, so there's that added bonus. The only thing keeping it from being a five-star read for me is just how much Millie withheld from her friends. It seemed a bit over the top to say so little but have these guys all fiercely loyal to you. I'm glad my first Christina Lauren read was a success!

I leave soon on a work trip to Burlingame, CA and I've got some reading for the 11-12 hour round trip plus evenings. Tablet has about 20 books plus a movie & some episodes of Parks & Rec. I haven't been on a flight that long for a while so I'm hoping I can sit still comfortably & have an empty middle seat next me. 🤞

Another banger from Christina Lauren!♥️🔥🌟

Books88 YES! Love them 🙌🏻💕 5y
Margot0817 How dirty /graphic is this book? I don't mind some but Im not interested in reading a lot of it. 5y
Clwojick @Margot0817 There are definitely some parts that are more explicit than others, but I‘d say it‘s like 90% story, 10% sex lol. I don‘t think it was overdone, by any means... but that‘s never really bothered me so maybe I‘m not the best person to ask? 🤷🏻‍♀️ 😆 5y
Margot0817 @Clwojick I'm totally okay with some but for example I wasn't a fan of the Amy Schumer's sex books where all of it was raunchy sex stories (only tried cause a friend gave it to me) but I can do 90% story lol. Thank you! 5y

Not my favorite of Christina Lauren‘s but still incredibly sweet and funny. I loved the characters and their banter, but like her (their?) other books, the ending felt a bit rushed. The love story still made me swoon, though, and I devoured the entire book in 2 days. ❤️

Graciouswarriorprincess @teainthelibrary I will have to look for it. Do you like the Lush bombs? Are they hard to clean from the tub? 5y
teainthelibrary @Graciouswarriorprincess not usually unless they have oils in them! Then it can get a bit slippery for a little. I‘ve never had any of them stain my tubs, though. I actually prefer Lush‘s bubble bars - you can stretch them over a few baths and they feel like more value for your money 🙃 5y

My overall response to this one is a big meh. I‘ve enjoyed others by this author combo so that was disappointing. Major drawbacks include an irritating FMC who is the only woman in her super cool dudely bro frat friend group. I don‘t think this story passes the Bechdel test at all. Glad that the FMC discovered that she could—shockingly—have feelings at the end, but didn‘t particularly care. No thanks!

Whoops. Finished this one a week before #24in48 even began. That‘s one book off the #24in28TBR stack! Worth it though, it kept me company on the drive to this beautiful cliff hike.

The book was an upbeat modern romance. I felt it pandered a little too much to digital trends and would have been better read than listened to (there‘s multiple text and IM conversations). The ending felt underwhelming, but I enjoyed the journey to get there.
