Silver on the Tree by Susan Cooper is the last book in the 'Dark is Rising' sequence. I loved this series and have read it so many times, both as a child and as an adult.

The #20series20days reminded me I needed to finish Susan Cooper's Dark is Rising series. And I am in the mood for some middle grade fantasy.
Early in the novel there is a racist event where a man complains about all the Pakis coming to England and stealing jobs. The man's racist views are connected to evil on the rise. This novel was written in 1977. 😞 Everything he says sounds like things we hear today.

This in the final battle for the light in hope of overcoming the dark. Bringing back all the characters from previous books Coopers final book weaves a story that is just wonderful.

1. Depends: Living in the southern US, I prefer winter; when I lived in the Midwest I liked summer

2. Both

3. No club; read what I want when I want.

4. Both

@SilversReviews

SilversReviews I can definitely see your reasoning about the weather choice. :) Thanks for playing. 7y

This series is between a pick and so-so for me. I found the characters a lot more interesting than the story. However, I‘m sure my nitpicks are due to the fact that I‘m not even close to the target age, so would recommend this to middle grade readers.

Chrissyreadit This was one of my all time favorites as a child. 7y
LibrarianToujours @Chrissyreadit I think I would have loved this when I was younger. 7y

This was bare ground yesterday 😒❄️.
I‘ve closed the library and instead I‘ll spend the day in comfy pants with this book and a fire 👍🔥.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Sounds like a win to me! 7y

Sadly, I only have one #FunkoPop character. I'm afraid if I start collecting them, I won't be able to stop! So here's Baby Groot with a few tree titles from my library. #BookandFunko #SeptemberLibrary17 Did you know you can make a Funko Pop avatar of yourself? I haven't tried it, but it looks like fun. https://next.funko.com/pop-yourself

TrishB We have gone a bit mad in our house buying them. I didn' t know that though - my daughter would love that! 7y
Graciouswarriorprincess Fun! Thanks for sharing! 7y

#5thBookinaSeries I've read all these books which come 5th in a series except The Scarab Path.

Decided to count Dawntreader as 5th based on Narnian chronology as opposed to The Horse and his Boy which was the 5th published. I just like Dawntreader better. I spent an unreasonable amount of time making that decision.

GatheringBooks booknerd problems are the best 8y
Chassie I love the Oz series. I'd pay a decent amount of money for a convo w/Baum. I devoured those as a kid. 8y

Centique I love that you spent an unreasonable amount of time on that. ?? I took forever trying to decide about "Golden Age of Piracy" too. As @GatheringBooks says "booknerd problems" ?? 8y
batsy The Dark is Rising series... Still gives me all the feelings. 8y
Laalaleighh I understand the unreasonable amount of time you spent making that decision. I've spent a lot of time determining which order I think the narnia books should go in. 8y
readinginthedark These are good decisions--and well-wasted time, in my opinion! 8y
Eyelit I need to reread Promethea - I remember liking that series 8y
LauraBeth I completely relate to this 8y
CrowCAH Wow, so many series with fifth books!!! 😊 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @batsy When I was in middle school I memorized all the prophecy poems in these books! Book geek for life! 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @Chassie I've been rereading them for the first time since elementary school and having a blast! 8y
TobeyTheScavengerMonk @aeeklund @Eyelit I sing the praises of Promethea on Litsy every chance I get! 8y

Pickpick

I read this for the first time in college(1990s) for my Children's Lit class. When I discovered it was the final book in a series, I decided to read the rest --- in backwards order! I loved the series and decided because of it that fantasy wasn't so bad after all!
