The Maze Runner
The Maze Runner | James Dashner
When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze. Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

The SF, The Maze Runner is a part of a thrilling 3-book series written by James Dashner. This book is great for an IR. Thomas suddenly wakes up in a place with no recollection of anything and surrounded by a group of boys. All of the boys have gone through the same thing. The place called The Glade has its own dangers, but the boys have found their way to live and protect themselves. The Maze is the only way out but do they make it? #UCFLAE3414F19

JRone UDL strategy 3.3 Guide information processing and visualization would help students visualize the world that Thomas lives in. It can also help them process the information they read throughout the story. ESOL strategy #6 Continually monitor students‘ comprehension would help a teacher check to see if an EL is understanding and recalling the key details written in the book. 3w
JRone This resource https://stemread.com/book/the-maze-runner-universe/ is great for students and teachers. Teachers can choose from a variety of activities to teach their students. Students can choose a game from the list provided to play. 3w
DrSpalding Fabulous resource and excellent alignment with universal design and English learner strategies. This is a super series to get students involved in. 1d

The maze runner is one of the most intriguing titles I have read in a while, I am certain that this book will make you as clanged to the book as I was when I read it. the book contains many interesting rises in the climax, and many parts of it contain action. I would call this book a dystopian novel.

I've always loved the maze runner, admittedly I saw the movie first, but immediately after, I bought the book, I read it in a day. This book is so action packed and thrilling, it generally has twists and is different to the movie, obviously, the characters each have different personalities which is portrayed amazingly, and the villains are eerie and the story never gets boring, just as you think it's over, something happens. Its honestly so good

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 /5 stars I love a good dystopia story and this is no exception! Thomas wakes up in a strange place with no memories of who he is or what has happened. This puzzle of a story had me wondering what would happen til the end. Definitely going to continue this series!

I‘m not in love but I didn‘t hate it either. It was good, just not great. The story was decent but the pacing too slow and while I could feel the suspense build, it never really peaked. The characters were bland, but you can‘t help but like them. They manage to make the best of things and even seem to have fun joking and playing pranks. Seemed more middle grade than YA to me. I‘m not sure I‘m enticed enough read the next in this series.

This is the only other series I‘ve read other than Harry Potter. I do have a lot more in my TBR stack that I hope to start this year.
I LOVED Maze Runner and it‘s mystery. It kept me engaged and excited, and I liked most of the characters. I‘m not the biggest fan of the movies (they‘re good, but not great), but the Maze Runner Series is a great read to dig your teeth into.

Enjoyable dystopic story about a boy who is put into a situation he feels he can have an impact. Characters in this world have their own distinct slang - kind of cool. Kids run the show -- adults are nowhere to be seen.

I read this to my 8.5 year old boy, aware that there was some violence in it. Most of the violence is boy vs machine. He was riveted by this story, he enjoyed it immensely. This was his first book that did not end happily. I explained that the hero was safe for now, and that we should read on in the series. I had to explain the last chapter, as he hadn‘t quite followed the last twist. 8 years old with help, or 12 and older if read independently.

Meh. The protagonist is simultaneously a nitwit and a Gary Stu. All the characters are supposed to be smart, but their main achievement is that they haven't (quite) gone the way of Lord of the Flies. The mystery kept me going, but what little explanation is given in the end is so ludicrous it must be a lie, or rank insanity. I'm not reading the other books to find out.

RaimeyGallant Good to know! 2y
Leniverse @RaimeyGallant Well, not everyone would agree with my verdict, I'm sure. 😆 2y

Leniverse @BookNAround 😄 Having your kids enjoy a book makes even bad books more palatable though. Except when you are just bemoaning their poor discernment. 😂 2y
BookNAround @Leniverse At least my daughter agreed with me. The two of us piled on the boys about their terrible taste for a long time after that trip. 😂 2y
Leniverse @BookNAround My kids have heard of the Mace Runner and eyed it with interest. I told my daughter she wouldn't like it as it only has one female character and she's in a coma until the last third of the book. I told my son he wouldn't like it because it's scary and people get killed. (He's 7. Too young.) 2y

The stupid, I can't take it anymore! ? 130 pages to go. The spouse has seen the movie and I asked him if the main character was as much of a nitwit there.
-"Oh yes. They're all idiots."
I vented for a while and he objected, "Babe, you're picking apart a YA novel."
Me: "So? YA doesn't mean it has to be STUPID!"
? I'm curious enough to read to the end, but I think for the rest of the series I might just watch the movies.

AceOnRoam Your spouse 🤣🤣🤣 2y

Ok, this is annoying me. Big time. He could have gone out there a minute or two ago and actually stood a chance of helping them get back. Instead he stands around in indecision until it is too late, and then he runs out there to die with them. (I mean, I figure obviously he's not going to die since he's the protagonist, but it's still annoyingly stupid.)

LibrarianRyan Yes it is. I can't wait to see what you think at the end. I liked it but didn't care to finish the series. 2y
Leniverse @LibrarianRyan That's how I felt about Divergent. I read that in one sitting, and at the end I thought, "Huh. That was one long page turning adrenaline rush, but it was also pretty mindless, I don't like the characters and I don't really care what happens next." I'd say that maybe the genre isn't for me, but I really loved the Hunger Games. 2y

I liked the concept and overall story, but the writing style didn't click with me. Part of it was the slang and the repetitiveness. I felt like the author was constantly reminding the reader that "it has only been a few days", "their memories are wiped" etc.
This might be a rare case where I enjoyed the movie more than the book. Somewhere between a pan and a so-so.

I read this book back in sixth grade, two years ago. It was one of my absolute favorites. I decided to pick it back up because the new movie just came out and I could barely remember anything that happened in the first two books. It certainly wasn't quite as incredible as I thought it was two years ago, but I still enjoyed it because I have so many memories of it. If you want a book to casually read on the side, I definitely recommend it.
