New detective series for me. Liked it enough to continue for now. But why does every story have an instant romance now, in the middle of a murder investigation 🤷♀️ is that realistic? Grumpy old woman alert!!

Getting Kindle Unlimited for 3 months, and going all in. I have chosen the series I‘ll devour. This‘ll get me through winter 🥶 ❄️ I think I need to read 64 books in total to finish these series 😁
Being a tourist and buying a book based in your holiday destination from the National Trust shop 🙋♀️. Fell for the cover of this one, along with my giddiness in a gift shop, and that I‘d fallen for Lindisfarne in the spring sunshine the day before. A solid police-procedural/mystery that I was pleasantly surprised I found impossible to put down.
- Holy Island by L.J.Ross
-Jane Haddam- author of Gregor Demarkian series
- The Harder They Come
- Hootie and the Blowfish
- Hello(Adele)

I know this is a really popular series so I won't dwell on my negatives. Having visited lindisfarne last year I was looking forward to this crime novel in such a setting but the broad chest, rippling muscles, + hypnotic eyes of DCI Ryan quickly became annoying as the plot got sillier + sillier. There is so much more I could say but as Ryan + Dr Anna Taylor walk hand in hand into the next mystery, their passion aflame I don't think I will join them
5 ⭐ and a new series!

Raising awareness to this series to both @Andrew65 (if you haven't read them yet), and @sprainedbrain as there's lots of pagan stuff - book #2 continues the theme as it's set during the summer solstice.
Good short read. A little over romanticized for my liking but enjoyed it none the less.
Alarm bells rang at the start when DCI Ryan told a coastguard what the weather was going to do: the coastguard disagreed, but Ryan was right. So much in this book would just never happen, and while I like some escapism this was silly (one thing would definitely get him sacked). The plot, DCI‘s back story, and most scenes are like a teenager‘s first foray into creative writing, with murder mystery ‘must haves‘ being ticked off in due order.
I‘m going to finish this because I might as well and I‘m curious to know if it can get any worse, but it‘s complete tripe and I‘m really disappointed. I‘m from that part of the world and wanted a series set there to be a decent read, but this is full of nonsense.
It was okay but a lot of the characters didn‘t come “alive” for me. I‘m not sure if I‘ll continue the series. They are free on Kindle, which is good if you‘d like to give it a go. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wanted to love this, I love a good police procedural and this one is set in one of my most favourite places. For the first half of the story I was really enjoying, well paced. Good character development interesting crime but then it all got a bit ... out there and then weirder and worded. I‘ll probably give another in the series ago but not sure I would recommend this one !
Finished off this one yesterday. I wouldn‘t call it five stars, but it‘s not so-so either. A decent police procedural marred by insta-love and a few eyebrow-raising decisions. Helped along by the solid narration for the audiobook IMO.
#Audiobooking this one while I work. Would have had it finished yesterday, but I spent five hours catching up on news podcasts instead 😅
My shop‘s been busy over the weekend, so I should be able to make some real headway on my #borrowbox audiobooks while I work.

#audiobooking this one while I work. Might get a good chunk done since I‘m also doing a post run and taking the train to my writing group later.
Finished my first country for the #ReadingEurope2020 challenge. Like all good tours this started from home in the U.K. Not the tagged book as not in the database (this is an earlier book in the series). Borderlands was a great entry in one of my favourite, but lesser known series set in north-east of England. Great characters and great plots. This one starts with the death of a woman during a night time army firing exercise. How did she get there?
The second book I‘ve been reading today that is part of a series which I don‘t think is known well enough and isn‘t in the database so tagged with an earlier book in the series. This is part of the DCI Ryan Mysteries series and is Book 14. Having read all the previous 13 I can strongly recommend it, being set in the North-East of England and has great central characters.
This series definitely needs greater publicity and is on Kindle Unlimited.
This year, I stumbled on this series by LJ Ross featuring DCI Max Ryan of the Northumberland CID. Holy Island is the first in the series and introduces a very engaging cast of characters. I‘ve listened to most of the series and thoroughly enjoyed them. Just found a new one that is a pre-quel to Holy Island that features a dramatic reading using a cast of actors including Kevin Whately from the Inspector Lewis TV series.
What did I miss? It has been a long time since I bailed from a novel. A handsome hero with slabs of muscle despite the fact he admits he drink a bottle of red a night and has not exercised in months (that diet does not have the same effect for me), a demure intelligent but beautiful specialist who cannot help falling for him despite the fact he treats her terribly. A mystery and a location which did not grip and I lost the will to continue.
Didn‘t enjoy this one as much as others in the series for the main murder, but interesting events that were taking place across this one in he personal / professional life of Jack, & how Ryan went that extra mile for him. When I am in trouble I want DCI Ryan in my corner. These books though are quick & enjoyable reads, and I think the personal stuff of the characters is often the strength of the books. Posted on series book 1 as not in database.
Starting to listen to the latest book in the excellent DCI Ryan Series, unbelievably Book 13. I really enjoy these short and fast paced books. A great lead character and great supporting characters. Strongly recommended. Posted on book 1 in the series as not in database.

The Infirmary is Book 11 in the DCI Ryan Series, but is actually the prequel to the first book in the series (the tagged book as this isn‘t in the database). This is really an excellent book & actually a great place to start this wonderful series which I can‘t recommend highly enough. DCI Ryan is a great character and has a superb Foyle in Frank Phillips - a great combination. Book 1 follows immediately on from this book. No qualms just read this!
Having to put this review under the 1st book in series as not in the catalogue. Yet again found this one to be a winner, 10th book in the DCI Ryan series. Great plot, characters linked to a back story. Quite short books so move along at pace. Good twist at the end of the story. Good small community feel came through and what happens when there is a murder. Love this detective series from this self published author, recommended.
Started reading book 10 in the DCI Ryan series, as on the border of Northumberland and Tyne and Wear this weekend and these books are all set in Northumberland. A very enjoyable detective series, love the characters, by this self published author. Tagged the first book as this book isn‘t in the database. Do recommend them.
Starting a new detective series with this book, hopefully it will be good as I own the first 5 in the series! 😂 This one looks as though it is set in Northumbria and around Holy Island. This will form letter H in my #LitsyAtoZ
Justice was often black and white but there were so many shades of grey in between.
They all prayed, whether they believed in a God or not.
Jealousy came in many forms, Ryan decided, and every one of them was ugly.
she was free to tell or not tell whoever she liked about her past.
The words were easy but he knew that believing them was much harder.
For a holy island, there was little that was sacred on it.

I'm reading 5 books at the moment but 2 are on #serialreader, 1 is an audiobook and 1 is #hpchapteraday. From top to bottom, the books are Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Holy Island, Shrill, War and Peace, and Robinson Crusoe. #firstlineofcurrentread #aprilbookshowers
This book is set only half an hour from my home. It's the first in a series of crime thrillers set around the north east. #setinmycity #readjanuary
