Thank you, Katy, for my #HHS gifts! I wore the hat today at a band contest & love the tea towels. The books look great! I love that you have an official tag on your hat with the instructions for washing. @katy4peas @wanderinglynn

This book drove me crazy. The narrator and author was extremely pretentious and just flatly nuts 🤦🏼♀️

I love Augusten Burroughs books. He‘s such a *magic* storyteller and damn does he have some GOOD stories. I like finding little personality traits he describes (either in himself or others) in people I know in real life - or dogs.
He‘d be such a great person to be friends with, but it‘d also be stressful and a little annoying. Extremely funny tho. And he‘s so quotable! Some of the commentary in here should be on tv. British tv prob.

Ive read Burroughs before and LOVED his work. This was the first audiobook I listened to him narrating and with his voice I just could not get into his story. Also the chapters just seemed to go on too long and ended boring. Probably one that would be better in print.

I loved this book! If you're a fellow fan of Augusten Burroughs then this will be right up your alley. If you're not familiar with his work it may seem a bit odd. A grown man claiming to be a witch? Not for the skeptical, but I believe he is a witch! Centered on his transition from the city to the country in his middle age with his husband and 4 dogs, Augusten reveals parts of his present and past that are too strange to not be supernatural. 🔮👻
10-14-20: My 83rd finished book of 2020! Augusten Burroughs is a witch! This memoir was about so much more than just his witchy powers: his relationship with his mother, his husband Christopher, their move from Manhattan to Connecticut, their dogs. We are given all these glimpses into his life with humor and candor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #toil&trouble #augustenburroughs 📖👍🏼#️⃣8️⃣3️⃣
Happy October! 🎃 here's my TBR for the month. I doubt I'll get through all of them but ya never know 😉
Fascinating book with a look at pagan/esoteric/witchy life that could open many eyes
This book was definitely entertaining. Do I agree with some statements no but his life was interesting growing up.
Okay, so I‘m not entirely convinced I believe in magick but as I get older, I‘m becoming more open to the possibility (same with astrology tbh). Maybe because everything seems terrible all the time, I want cosmic answers but can‘t really commit to religion. Whatever. What‘s important here is that Augusten has written another sharp, insightful, hilarious memoir that makes me want to be a witch. Do recommend. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼1/2
Time to check in on my #memoirsandmysteries challenge progress. The blue are planned reads, and the red are what I‘ve completed. Still a long way to go, but I‘m excited about what‘s to come. #mandmchallenge2020
Picked this up from the library today. I‘m looking forward to reading it!
Funny book by my favorite witch! I laughed through it. Burroughs living in the country is such a funny thought.
This was a laugh out-loud read for me. When Burroughs hits his stride there isn‘t anyone better to make people feel good about the weirdness we all face in life! I‘m still not convinced that he‘s a witch, but he presents a pretty compelling case as to why we should believe he is one! #nfnov. #TIL that he legally changed his name to Augusten Burroughs.
I really enjoyed reading this BookPage article on Augusten Burroughs and Toil & Trouble. I‘ve had the book on my “to read” list for a while, but this article gave me a whole new insight into the book and author and makes me even more excited to read it 📚 Bonus points if you spot a guest appearance by Midnight! 🐾🐾 #bookpage #booksbrewsandbooze #toilandtrouble #augustenburroughs #imawitch #memoir
I am a natural skeptic and I have to admit my first thought was "take your medication." But the book is so honest, hilarious, touching and observationally true, that I forgot I think the premise is ridiculous and got sucked right in. I am still not convinced if witches are real or not, but I am certain that his writing is magick. We have a similar background and I always feel understood when I read his books.
Augusten Burroughs is no stranger to the revelatory memoir, but there is one thing he‘s failed to mention until now: he‘s a witch. Go ahead, scoff. He wouldn‘t believe him either, except he‘s willing to offer proof. Enter Toil & Trouble. This is old school Burroughs - tough truths told with the sharpest of wits and the keenest of observations . I loved Running With Scissors and Dry, and this book reminded me why. He‘s just so freaking funny.
Burroughs new memoir is about him being a witch... are you intrigued? I know I am...
I really enjoyed the author‘s humor and had some laugh out loud moments. Very interesting take on every day witchcraft. Some of us have stronger intuition than others, but all of us have it. Totally enjoyed this, but not motivated to read any of his other books. 4/5🖤s
Well. That happened. It‘s about a witch so it qualifies for the #scarathon (#TeamSlaughter!) but I‘m not sure what to think. I‘m at an hour and 38 minutes in #24B4Monday. @Clwojick
This was EXACTLY the book I needed to get over the hump of a stress-infused, news-oversaturated week. I loved it. It‘s been years since I‘ve read an Augusten Burroughs book, but this makes me consider going back to catch up on the ones I‘ve missed. He‘s hilarious, his writing is smart and engaging, and, bonus, he‘s a witch! (The witchy parts were my favorite by far.) 🧙♂️🖤
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Augusten Burroughs is one of the reasons I finally became a reader. I picked up his first memoir in my early 20s, fell in love with the genre, the rest is history. He‘s a darkly humorous and talented storyteller. When I saw the basis of this one, I wasn‘t sure what hokeyness awaited, but it was quite interesting. Yes, he discusses his “powers,” but it‘s also about his mom, moving to the country, and, of course, dogs. 🐾
“There‘s nothing more beautiful than to have survived something.”

Chilling. Starting the first read of the #spooky season with a spooky #Pusheen. New job at Kohl‘s starts tomorrow night. Wish me luck! #teamslaughter @Clwojick
Post 2- #screamathonswap @AmyG I love the magnets! The bookmark is amazing! The coffee and tea- all of it!
Thoroughly enjoyed this funny, dark, and offbeat memoir in which Augusten Burroughs comes out as a witch. Seriously, he‘s a witch. Burroughs reads it himself and has a weird, drawn out style, but I got used to it after awhile. Thanks to Libro.fm for the complimentary listening copy.
5/5🌟 What a great, entertaining memoir! I was really intrigued by this one from the moment I read the synopsis. Augusten Burroughs opens up about how he and other members of his family are descendants of Witches! Yes you read that right Witches, the supernatural kind. Burroughs is a wonderful writer and storyteller. His words and humour pulled me in. Definitely one of the more curious and uncanny memoirs I have read. Out Oct 1st! #bookreview
Lineup for Augusten Burroughs signed ARCs. It continues around the corner and into the booth.
