I really wanted to like this book, which seems to be set in a Sumerian-inspired world, but I simply cannot. Both the romance and the mystery feel utterly forced, like the protagonist knows the problem and just refuses to actually say it, instead going to great lengths to look for other solutions.

Meh. I just couldn‘t stay engaged. I found myself zoning out through most of the chapters, only remembering vague details like it‘s a science textbook. And even though it had a strong beginning, the middle felt dry.

Gravemaidens brings readers a tale of sisterhood, family, sacrifice and desperation. Kammani will do all she can to heal the ruler and save her sister from death. This read at an even pace, not holding too many twists or turns. I guessed a few of the plot reveals, but it was still a good read. #youngadult

This book frustrated me. It felt like there was no payoff and near the halfway point I just didn't understand why the book was still going.

The Litsy love is not high for this one but it‘s ratings on Amazon and Goodreads are 4.3 and 3.56, respectively. I also haven‘t read this yet but it‘s been on my TBR since I saw the cover. Anyways, at this price, if it does suck then you‘re not out much.

The story of two sisters, one who will be sacrificed to the netherworld and the other doing everything to save her.

This book was okay. I didn't find myself unable to put it down. The story was rather predictable by the middle. By the time I got to the end it just dawned on me that the story itself wasn't that enticing, but at least I had finished it. I guess it just felt a bit lackluster for me.

Meh....It was fine. I didn't hate it.....😬. It was just a little melodramatic and well...meh.

YA fantasy set in an area similar to ancient Egypt/Mesopotamia. Maidens are chosen to accompany the ruler to the afterworld should he perish. Good world building & detail. I enjoyed the atmosphere & the story was intriguing & entertaining. The characters were mostly dynamic & believable, though I had some issues with Kammani (smart character, dumb choices). Overall, the plot moved nicely & the narrative kept me interested from very early on.

Part of me feels like I have seen this cover 100 times. But some things the graphic designer did to keep it fresh and intriguing is the bright white, the bugs attracted to the light even though everything is bright, and the unusual bottle shape.
