Just started for June bookclub and already it made me chuckle several times. Thank you Vicki for choosing.

Sy Montgomery has a way of blending nature writing, or in this case barnyard animal writing, with personal anecdotes which I relate too. In this book she tells of the life of her pig Chris, who she and her husband adopted as a tiny runt and kept as a pet for his 14 years of life. She also writes of some of her travels and losing both her parents.
Chris‘ joy in eating may be my favorite part 😋😆🐷.

“Christopher Hogwood came home on my lap in a shoe box.”
I love Sy Montgomery‘s nature writing, and I‘ve had this book on my shelf for at least a year. Time to read about a good good pig 🙂❤️📚.
My first Sy Montgomery book was Soul of an Octopus, which I loved. I hoped this book, a much earlier one, might have some similarities, and it does. It‘s the story of Christopher, an extraordinary pig and the community that fed him, loved him, and were so very grateful for the ways in which he touched their lives.
Today we had to run some stock down to the Great Lakes Medieval Festival, so we decided to spend the afternoon checking out the faire. This is Snorkel. He is a potbelly show pig who is part of a trained pig act. He is also an artist and painted this bookmark with his snout. 🧡🐷
The last year has been really hard on all of us in the festival scene, so it was nice to be able to show support and tip the performers we saw today.
Excellent book. Sy Montgomery has a magical way of describing her interactions with animals. She highlights that it is important to take time to enjoy the world around us. Her writing is lyrical without being overly verbose or grandiose.
@Catsandbooks and @melissajayne - my parcel came today. Were you able to pick yours up from the post office @melissajayne ?
I love this book about Sy Montgomery and her pet pig but this section on the elderly drivers had me dying of laughter.
I keep seeing other littens talking about Sy Montgomery's books, so when I saw this one with no hold at the library- I grabbed it! You guys were so right! I can't wait to find more of her books to read. This was the story of Montgomery's own pig, Christopher and how he changed not only her life, but the lives of so many people. I'm glad I was the only one in the work room today, because I was sobbing at the end of this good good pig's story. 🐖❤
We are having pre dinner drinks in the library at our hotel, The Pig Near Bath. The bookcase is full of vintage Nancy Drew books. 🍸🥃

When in Reading Slump, try Sy Montgomery. My new motto. #readingmyowndamnbooks
Definitely not a read for the anti-anthropomorphising set, but a sweet, cheerful story for anyone who has had an animal make a difference in their lives. Sy Montgomery lovingly relays the great impact one little (well, little for a while) pig had on her life and the lives of all who encountered him. An excellent comfort read if life is giving you a hard time.
Like most animal stories, this gift from my nephew (who knows I love pigs) #mademecry. 🐷#somethingforsept #septphotochallenge #day7
