Scottish love, intrigue, Russia and some bonus E.S.P. because WHY NOT!? 💜
“From the first time I met them, they‘ve been on the knives,” he said, using the Russian expression for people who shared a dislike for each other.
I just LOVE this expression and plan to incorporate it into my life. I‘m on the knives with all kinds of people, it shouldn‘t be hard. 🤣
It takes until chapter 8 or so to figure out how this is a sequel to The Winter Sea (and an irritably long time to get to the sexy Scottishness of it all) but now I‘m there and enjoying the next journey in this trilogy.
I've spent most of my day #audiobaking blackberry peach cobbler, pumpkin spice muffins, banana cake, and malted milkball brownies (I've lived at altitude my whole life, why is getting things to rise still hit or miss? 😫)
I've read/ listened to this book several times but Susanna Kearsley always works for me.
Susanna Kearsley is one of absolute favorite authors, and I still haven't met a book of hers that I didn't adore. Historic fiction is my jam but this author puts such a unique spin on that history. I love it! These characters were enthralling, and even with the jumps back and forth in time, the story was appealing and remained attractive till the end.
I recommend this book to anyone!
📚📖Happy Reading!📖📚
This is now definitely one of my favorites of Kearsley‘s books. I loved how it tied to a couple other of her books. If I were to give a straight summary of the plot it wouldn‘t seem like much really but somehow I was drawn in by the search for the history of the carved firebird said to be the treasured gift from a Russian queen. Only a couple more unread books by Kearsley on my shelves and I will be so sad when I have read them.
I think this is my favorite Kearsley! It includes her strengths of meticulous history, fascinating but realistic magical realism, and engaging stories in both past and present. And it‘s also based in multiple countries and with the characters at multiple ages which almost makes it feel like multiple stories in one. Definitely one of the most purely enjoyable stories I‘ve read this year!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
It's the end of day 1 and I'm happy with this total. I'm finding my focus is coming back. I'll see how much I can squeeze in around work tomorrow.

I've been listening to this during my commute all week and now even thoughts have a Scottish accent. 😁 BTW, as much as I enjoyed this when I read it years ago, it is amazing on audio.
Two time periods....two stories of romance....some suspense....some historical novel....some ESP, this book has some interesting twists, interesting characters and holds your interest from start to finish.
Really, this isn‘t a bad book. But it failed to reel me in until 70%. That‘s too darn long to wait! I liked the MC in the past more than the present. The history and location descriptions just made me snooze. It could have been so much more!

1. I‘d like to finish up the tagged book. Plus my “presidential pairing” reads are nearly done. So I can start the March #NFbuddyread!
2. Mr. B is making corned beef and cabbage, but that‘s about it.
3. Nope
4. Not yet—but I‘d like to!

Challenging myself (again) to go WAY back in my Kindle rather than just grab the newest book. I passed over a few, but then settled on this one. I love Kearsley!

These are the ones I can think of right away at least lol 🤷🏻♀️😊🖤 #sundayfunday
1. The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley
2. Snow White Blood Red by Eleen Datlow
3. Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix
4. The Mermaid‘s Daughter by Ann Claycomb
5. Hunted by Meagan Spooner
6. Lost Boy by Christina Henry
I was surprised to find that many of the historical characters in this one were real – thanks to an author‘s note at the end, which I always like to see in my historical fiction! In fact, it was quite a detailed note. Cont in comments...
Up next to read!

Susanna Kearsley, The Firebird (Slains, #2)
Finally picked something to read! This one was calling my name on my TBR shelves. I've not read anything by this author before. #lovethecover #canlit #canadianauthor #currentlyreading

Susanna is my favorite romance author! With historical and modern POVs, time travel, and romance that's just steamy enough without being over the top, these books ring all the bells for me. Love them!
Susanna Kearsley is one of my top favorite authors. Just can't get enough of her books and could gush about them all the livelong day ❤️ This one is on sale today although I highly recommend you read The Winter Sea first (you'll wish you had, I promise). You also could read The Shadowy Horses first too, but it's not required.
