This book had good framework, but didn't deliver. The end was better than the first 200 pages where almost nothing happened, but the style of keeping the reader in the dark felt....annoying? She kept alluding to the fact that her dad would say creepy things to her, and that she slept in her closet out of fear of him, but the reader never finds out if it was just fear or an actual prior incident? Not to mention, ⬇️

About half-way and I LOVE her writing style. This is the second book of hers I've picked up and she has a way of feeling very familiar to me in the way she writes, like I'm listening to this from a close friend who makes me laugh. I'll probably go on to read everything she's written.

9/10 so far. This is the author of The Quarry Girls, which was also an excellent book! She seems to go for 70s/80s time periods for my Gen xers out there

The novel “Unspeakable Things” is based on real life events that happened in MN. I remember when the actual events happened. I think the author did a good job telling the story. It is difficult to read but the need to understand is a must. We need to protect our children!

While this was a slow burn it kept my attention and the need to know more. It‘s sad that it‘s based off true events. 😕 But she did a great job to honor some of the people hurt by the monster. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

Getting ready to head to Montana for the week! Starting Unspeakable Things while waiting to board the plane. 😎✈️⛰️

There were interesting parts but over all I didn‘t feel this was anything special. Cassie‘s parents have problems and do not give her much guidance. Her sister is becoming distant and the local boys are being attacked. Cassie wants to figure out who is attacking the boys. She doesn‘t seem to have any thoughts about her own safety. I felt the most tension in the book came from Cassie‘s relationship with her father.

This book was amazing, full-stop. A tense, twisting, dramatic tale told from the perspective of a tween girl who's just trying to avoid being the object of her father's eye.

Filled with gut wrenching moments and drama to leave your heart pounding, Unspeakable Things is one of the best reads I've had in years.

Please tell me I‘m not the only one not reading my library books. I‘m trying! I‘ve taken The Silent Patient out 3 times! I haven‘t read one page. I really, desperately want to read this one though, so I‘ll plug away tonight.

My January 2020 WOW book!

This book will have you turning pages until the very end. It's emotional and painful in parts but it is so good. One you won't forget anytime soon!

I found this book almost unbearably suspenseful. Twelve-year-old Cassie lives with her older sister and parents in rural Minnesota. When local boys start disappearing, she wants to solve the mystery, but she has other stuff on her plate: her parents‘ parties, the off-limits basement in her house, and her father‘s mercurial moods. Un-put-down-able. I would not classify this as YA, either.

I have seen lots of reviews of people loving this book, but I just felt like it was okay.

At first I was engaged in the mystery of young boys being attacked in a small town where people keep to themselves and don't speak up, but in the end it felt too predictable and left too many side stories unexplained.

It's a quick thriller read though, just isn't particularly memorable.

Good read! I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what was happening! And then as it got to the end..it was like..there's not possibly enough book left for this to be the end!! How can it end?!

If you haven't already done so, be sure to add this page turner to your tbr. There were some aspects I didn't fully love, but overall this was a very solid and thrilling novel which I more or less tore through in one sitting.

Unspeakable Things is well-worth the read, especially with the right expectations in mind. It is not a thriller, although promoted as such, and while mysterious, the actual mystery sits on the back burner most of the time. If you like cryptic, dramatic tales and don‘t mind the potential for triggers, I do believe you will enjoy this story.

Really enjoyed this book, it kept me guessing right till the end. I thought I had to worked out so many times yet I was wrong. Only thing i will say is that i was left with a few questions that could have been addressed. Overall highly recommend

This one was certainly filled with unspeakable things. Set in a small town in Minnesota during the 8o's boys are being taken and sexually assaulted by an unknown perpetrator. The story unfolds from the viewpoint of a 12 year old girl who is living a nightmare of her own at home. Tense, dark, heartbreaking and very compelling.

The first line in the book ...it grabbed me right from the start

Cassie is 12 and uncomfortable with her parents lifestyle. She notices a drastic change in her older sister when she comes of age & fears her father. Terror fills her small town when young boys are get abused by a masked man & one goes missing. The twists kept me guessing, each option just as bad as the next. Overall a heartbreaking story. It showed how a young spirit conquered fear to bring justice. I had a hard time putting this down.

I couldn‘t imagine growing up in a situation like this. It‘s heartbreaking! I couldn‘t put it down.

This book has an interesting premise but fails to deliver. There are too many unresolved plot points, heavy handed red herrings, and forced 80s nostalgia. I like a coming of age story mixed with a mystery but this story is too slow and just isn‘t that well written. There‘s some promise here with the main character but ultimately it‘s not a recommendation from me. Thank you NetGalley for this book in exchange for an honest review. #catsoflitsy

I almost couldn't take the tension and suspense of this one!!!!! Tautly written, based on a true story, and did I mention the tension and suspense? I had no idea what was going to happen, only that I had to keep reading to find out what it was. I think I read it with one eye shut! 😂

Not sure this is really a mystery or suspense, more of unethical or questionable behavior and inappropriate sexual behavior as seen through the eyes of a child. Too many innuendos and not enough answered questions. Awkward ending, at least IMHO. Had great potential.

I have to say this book was only ohkay. I love mysteries, but this book didn't do it for me. It was very slow and I felt like the mystery aspect was thrown in at the end. I felt bored a lot through out the book, I dont want to spoil anything, so I'll just say a lot of things were left open-ended. I dont particularly like books like that, also I felt a lot of things were beaten around the bush. So I'll have to say 3/5

Dark, intense, emotional, gripping, suspenseful, disturbing... I couldn't put this one down. It had me hooked from the beginning to the very end. The story is told from the POV of a young girl, but this is for sure an adult novel.

This book will be released in February, and I highly recommend checking it out. Part mystery, part coming-of-age tale with a wonderful protagonist. The dread that builds as the story progresses will keep you reading. Loury does an excellent job of covering some very dark material (The story is based on events that happened in her hometown) without being overly graphic. Absolutely loved this one.
