It wasn't until somewhat recently that I delved in to historical fiction, but I've since discovered some real gems. Take this beautifully covered book for example...
Drawn from and based on real history, which was in and of itself very interesting, this story was also replete with mystery and intrigue as well as inspiration and romance. Truly, the perfect blend of all. Can't wait to read the next book when it comes out.
4.5 stars
“They're armed, scared, eager, and untested. A terrible combination.“
Sounds awful familiar and analogous to the faction of militia and rioters who stormed the capitol a week ago and still seem incapable of accepting our current political “leadership“ is legitimately on the way out.
On the night of the Great Chicago Fire will artist Meg & sister Sylvie‘s bookshop be lost? Can a murder mystery be solved and save their father, a Civil War vet with Soldier‘s Heart (PTSD)? Who will find romance amidst these circumstances?
This book. Wow! I‘m so glad I won‘t have to wait long for book no. 2 in the series, it comes out next month 🙌🏻🤩🥳 Definitely recommending to fans of historical fiction, especially those interested in the Great Chicago fire🔥🔥
Thank you so much for the awesome #littlechristmasswap goodies @KatieDid927 🥰 I can‘t wait to dig into everything!!
Thanks again for hosting @bookish_wookish ❤️
I was initially drawn to this book because I have always been fascinated by accounts of the Great Chicago Fire and I love historical fiction. What I found was skilled writing, wonderful storytelling and well developed and connected characters. Themes of faith and hope were seamlessly woven into the storyline. So very well done and so very much enjoyed.
As fire sweeps the city, the lives of Meg and Sylvie change, of course. The aftermath of the disaster brings murder, secrets, and a desperation to save their father (and some romance, too!). Meg and Sylvie often find themselves at odds with each other, but time and again, prove wise enough to reconcile and work together in order to sort through the intrigue and overcome the obstacles.

Received a copy for review. Opinions are my own.
Mention the “Great Fire“ to me, and my mind is likely to turn to the events of London in 1666. But, on October 8th, 1871, four major fires occurred in the Midwest United States. The most well known is the Great Fire of Chicago, which was supposedly started by Mrs. O'Leary's cow (or not).

Jocelyn Green is a master storyteller who knows how to infuse rich historical detail into an intriguing and emotion-laden fiction. With a burned out 1871 Chicago as the backdrop, the author weaves a beautiful story of love, loss, betrayal, fear, resilience, and faith that will linger long after the last page has been read. This is a book that must be savored and not rushed through. #mustread #historicalfiction
After Stephen survives unimaginable horrors in Andersonville Prison, the Chicago Fire destroys the family‘s thriving bookstore. Stephen, Meg, & Sylvie are pulled apart amidst allegations that simply can‘t be true. With a diagnosis of Soldier‘s Heart, Stephen has to turn to God for strength to fight the visions & fears of the past. Jocelyn Green weaves fascinating facts & fiction together in a drama filled with love, misunderstanding, & hope.
Heartwarming text from Amazon 💗💕💓💞
Sounds like a dream come true 📚💗☕️

Stephen is a bookshop owner. Such a clear picture of what he was feeling.
